I noticed the charging from 5-6 in a noticeable way. This is even faster, but I have many usb pucks along with the duo, so meh

Oh ya definitely give it a go. Honestly the best features of the Apple watch are the most simple ones IMO. Notifications, Apple pay, vibration alarm, fitness, checking the weather and maybe the odd message reply with voice to text but even for that and most other things I'm pulling my phone out.
Apple Pay is convenient, not really needed where I reside since we have had wireless (NFC) payment systems for quite some time (a decade or so), health tracking is another major one, especially regarding heart fitness, it's easy to see ups or downs over time.
I will definitely try the sleep tracking and silent alarm soon.

Apple Pay is brilliant for web purchases. Secure, fast, no filling out your address.

I am confused. If I buy the Apple watch 7 it doesn't come with the fast changing cable? I have to buy it separately?

I’ve been using a USB-C Watch charger (from Apple) for a while now and don’t really notice much difference compared to the USB-A version (5w vs 20w for the USB-C puck). I don’t charge it overnight, as I sleep with it on, so any speed improvements are nice, but this improvement isn’t enough to get me to upgrade. I’ll stick with my 5 for another year and hopefully next year we’ll see a new form factor and further improvements to battery life.

They have not announced what the S7 comes with, I would guess it comes with this cable included but who knows.

Just because they sell this now though doesn't mean it won't be included, they also sell the older Watch chargers separately and they are just getting a head start on this one. But again, we don't know because they don't have the buy now button yet which tells you what is included in the box.

It'd be a real pisser if they don't include this cable on the S7, for the amount of money the Watch costs that would be a kick in the groin.

As if 33% matters, especially when most people charge their Apple watch at nighttime.

Actually, I bet that the vast majority (>95%) charge their watch at nightime
Nah, a ton of people wear their watch at night for sleep tracking. I charge mine during the day when I'm sitting at my desk working. That 33% is a huge upgrade.

Here in Canada NFC has been around a long time now even pre Apple pay with credit card chips. Still love the convenience of double tapping a button on my watch vs. taking a credit card or my phone out of my pocket.

I know I am getting old, because this announcement is the only one that made me smile today. I can FINALLY move 100% free of USB A.

Is it tough? I do the same. But my Apple Watch Series 6 already charges from 10% to 100% in what feels like about 1 hour. I haven't really measured it, but it feels really fast.

Apple made a point about you only needing to charge it for 8 minutes to get 8 hours of sleep tracking. That is nice I suppose if I end up going to bed and my watch is already dead or close to being dead. But it's only 33% fast, that would normally mean you could achieve the same with a Series 6 by charging about 14 minutes. I have to admit, 8 minutes versus 14 minutes doesn't really make a difference to me in any meaningful way.

I always use my watch for sleep tracking. I have a MagSafe Duo charger at my desk and drop my watch on the charger during my workday. If the charging takes me 45 minutes or 1h and 15 minutes doesn't make much of a difference to me.

But each to their own I guess.

Right. The old p/n was MX2H2AM/A and had a silver back. I don't know what the old Axxxx was, but the new one is A2515.

This doesn't look good for the MagSafe Duo etc. If the previous USB-C to Apple Watch charger had to be replaced with this new one in order to support faster charging I suppose there is indeed something different in the "puck" itself. I suppose that means the MagSafe Duo won't have this new capabilities and other charging solutions that in theory should be capable of providing additional juice like the Belkin 3-in-1 MagSafe chargers won't support it either.

Yeah. I've got the (expensive!) Belkin 3-1 on my desk, and it's my main charger. As long as the S7 comes with a fast charger in the box, I'm OK with that. I'll replace my standard charger on my nightstand, and use it for a quick boost while I'm in the shower.

What are the odds they don't include this cable with the Watch 7? Not a big leap considering they pulled chargers from iPhones....

The only other guess I have is that this cable may be substantially longer than the one they plan on including with the Watch 7, which I wouldn't be surprised if it something silly like a 3 inch cable length....

An option without the cable would be appreciated, many thanks in advance, Apple.
(I'm nice today because they've introduced the new iPad Mini).

Nope, I wear mine at night.

I charge while I shower. 33% would actually make it more likely I hit full charge.

Nah, next year they will be adding more health features, which I’m looking forward to. In the meantime I’ll pick up a 7 when it’s out. Bigger screen means bigger text for my aging eyes.

So is this USB-C Apple Watch Charger any different to the existing USB-C Apple Watch charger?

Does faster charging degrade the battery quicker? Naturally faster charging is convenient but not if it makes my watch die halfway through the day after a year or two of use.

As I posted, yes there is a new charger, different than the old one. It says it specifically is a fast Apple Watch charger in the title. It fast charges the S7, other Watch models get standard charging as they always have. No other known Watch charger has support for fast-charging on the S7, including the MagSafe Duo which doesn’t have a new model nor any mention of fast-charging on its support site for the S7 Watch. It probably has new electronics like for temperature monitoring and maybe it runs the coil at a higher voltage to achieve the fast-charging.
