Funny, thats pretty blatant. Samsung should have at least used a different set of colors. Thats just lazy.

Lots of reading comprehension fail.

But given that the Smart Case was not directly produced by Samsung, it does not seem that Apple's claims of infringement would relate to that product.

Is it sinking in at all that Samsung did not produce that case?

Nope and that's the effect the MacRumors staff was going for I bet. Delectable clicks as a result of flame baiting and enraged people who don't bother to read the letters under the picture.

The problem with Samsung is that they intentionnally design their stuff so that they can be confused with already existing Apple products.

Their phones look confusingly like iPhones, their tablet look confusingly like iPads.

I mean, some weeks ago i was in a computer store, i saw tablets on demos and wanted to go see iPads, i moved toward what looked like iPad until i came close and realized that it was the Galaxy Tab.

Same thing happened to me with Galaxy phones, me watching someone using a Samsung Galaxy phone while for an instant thinking that the person is actually using a iPhone.

And i know how Apple products looks like, and Samsung play with consumer confusion intentionnally with their design to attract some peoples to their product.

Apple wears their desperation on their sleeve. They know the iPad - particularly with the slow and cumbersome iOS5 - has seen its best day. My iPad 1 was basically rendered useless after the iOS5 "upgrade" but instead of taking Apple's bait to get a faster iPad 2 I'm going to make the switch over to an Android-based "pad".

Apple has overplayed their hand. Now their strategy is to try to sue their way to greatness? How about competing??

What? Desperate? That's the word you come up with to describe Apple completely dominating the tablet market? Get real, Apple is grinning from ear to ear.

Yeah, it is sad. But because of the time of year and the opening of the Grand Central store, it must be tough to generate "content" these days.

Note to self: Never get on Apple's bad side :p

That being said they constantly are copied off of so one cannot blame them for ferociously protecting their IP. If I made something people constantly copied off of I'd feel the same way too.

Just take a look at before the iPad was announced. Everyone held off to see what Apple was going to release.

This! I too was amazed at the similarities.

I already posted this months ago, and everyone shot me down.

When you cannot innovate, you litigate.

Considering Apple did innovate and Samsung is copying...not sure what your point is.

Samsung is blatantly copying Apples designs which cost Apple tons of $$$ in R&D.

I had no clue about the smart covers either but my god, seriously Samsung?

Like we're shooting down this current article ?

Heck, even the article itself shoots it down.

Seriously, that "smart case" is a total copy of Apple's.

Please someone make it stop. It should be a rule to read the article before replying. :(

They didn't invent touch screens. touch screens are typically flat and display devices have had rectangular shapes long before Apple was founded. All hail Apple for inventing a rectangle with curved corners.

I guess your definition of desperation is everyone's else's definition of success.

If you knew ANYTHING about business, you'd know that Apple has billions invested in R&D and that comes out in the form of their final products. When another company copies exactly that company is basically getting away with using Apple's R&D.

My iPad1 runs just fine with iOS5, and so does my parents and also my friends. Soooo...if you have an issue, then take it into the store and have them fix it.

I was going to post, "How long until someone sees that picture plus the title and doesn't bother reading the article".

Looks like I was beaten to the punch.

Too bad there will be another 100 people entering this thread saying "OMG, Samusung can't do anything original, look at those case!!!!".

Wonder if Macrumor put that picture up just for that reason. It's misleading.

holy crap

OMG what the he11 is Samsung's deal? So, are the pictured cases sanctioned by Samsung or not? Supposedly not, but what's to be believed. I was quick to pounce, but I'll wait to see what the full story is...

Does the 3rd party cover rely on Tab magnets?

There is no way Samsung would "accidentally" install strategic magnets in their Galaxy Tab, unless there was a reason to do so.
If they are mimicking Apple's placement, but letting a 3rd party do the dirty work of manufacturing the "smart cover knock-off" then an Apple lawyer should ask Samsung what the engineering requirement was for the magnets.

Apple co-designed the smart cover and the iPad 2 to work together.
I find it hard to believe that Samsung would complicate their design with unnecessary magnets, unless their was a practical application of those magnets.

I'm just having fun watching these lawsuits.

I think we have the moral high ground. Samsung copies everything we do and would love to live in the Apple/Mac/iPhone/iPod world. We came up with the first PC smaller than a gymnasium, GUI, and first aluminum case for a laptop.

Do you think a crude, MSPaint made infographic will help them understand?

Oh for god sake Apple, give it a rest, this is just petty and futile.

Galaxy Tabs and smart-phones are on sale in most of the world and by the time this stuff even gets near a courtroom the technology will have moved on, making this constant sniping at a particular set of devices irrelevant.

Can see the next Samsung ad already, "The case that Apple tried to ban" :)

For that reason now I'm kind of glad they posted that picture. Gives you a better sense of what you're dealing with when encountering people on the internet.

You work for Apple ? Or are you being sarcastic (since none of those firsts came from Apple).
