hmm strange, just a minute ago there were iTunes Customer reviews of the movie, and now there gone... Apple deleted them?

They just did it again!!

I think that it's because they weren't really reviews, more like people going: " OMG  movies on iTunes yay :) !!!"
instead of telling something about the movie

Nah, the Simpsons is old and tired now. If they had the older episodes when the show was actually good (seasons 1-7) available I might grab a couple, but really, they need to just need to put that show out of its misery, it's dying a slow death and is a shadow of its former self.

Very True.

Your point was???

You can't seriously think that the mini is a REAL media centre. No tuner, no 5.1 (well maybe with optical, no easy 5.1), no DVR and a crappy little HD. No a REAL media centre is needed

Let me just remind everyone that they're streaming HD movie previews... Think about owning tons of movies, but being able to play them from anywhere, no backup, in HD, making the mini perfect for your livingroom......

Evolution

I wonder if Apple offering feature-length films through the iTMS will become significant enough in the public eye that it breaks out beyond the gimmick of watching video on an iPod. I agree with Mr. Jobs that video on the iPod is not the equivalent of portable music in terms of functionality or even consumer demand, but I also find myself anxious for the iTMS to take the next step and offer (hopefully) DVD quality video in addition to expanding the available video content.

I think video integration with the iPod is nifty, but to me, the two aren't necessarily dependent on one another.

Um, full length video downloads of TV shows are nice, but, I'd rather just torrent them. Not because I don't want to pay $2, but I delete them after I'm done watching...I don't want to pay $2 for a throw away video. Full length movies, maybe, but not TV shows or disney movies.

Oh, and there's something I don't like about playing videos in iTunes.

Of course, $2 US for a single TV show is too expensive. But they now offer discounts for months/seasons, which is a good step in the right direction.

For movies, however, $2 US is still less expensive than going out and renting a movie (not even taking the time and gas into account). If the download speed is good enough (and you have broadband), it could even take less time to download it (depending on the distance between you and the video rental store, maximum allowed speed on the roads, etc). ;-)

I really don't see Apple selling full-length movies for only $2 US, even at iPod resolution...

I think Apple expects people to use that Gigabit Ethernet port for the actual storage of TV shows and movies. It makes sense too, since 3.5" hard disk put up more heat, requiring more fans, making more noise. And noise in the living room is bad (ask any Xbox 360 owner about fan noise).

Guess you don't currently buy DVD's either?

What do you do with movies that DRM is in the way. I just don't get it. DVD's have DRM.... so you don't buy anything legal at all?

MarcelV-

Not to get to deep into this debate, but for me it's a philosophical difference I have with you in regards to anything DRM. I understand and respect your side of things, but for me anything w/ DRM is just plain wrong. In the long run, DRM hurts not only consumers but the content producers themselves. Ultimately, DRM has *nothing* to do with preventing piracy, but all about control over how to deliver content. I have a significant problem with this.

I believe content (especially in this day and age) should be able to flow freely to ANY device.

I know you'll disagree with me on this, and I definitely respect your opinion on this. Also, I know that any ranglings on this we'll convice neither you or I. :)

is there anyone who can give an educated guess about price, thickness and such.

This doesn't feel like a "full length movie" in the way that everyone is getting excited. And what's with the random "add XXX TV show" - that's completely irrelevant to this idea.

Hmm..."add XXX TV show?" Poor choice of words, perhaps? Somewhere somebody is frantically searching the iTMS for adult content. (Just kidding, I thought the way you put it was funny).

So a made for TV movie is on iTunes. They offered something that I highly doubt will even be found on DVD for the foreseeable future. Maybe if Apple moves beyond glorified TV shows there will be reason for the hootin and hollerin. Until then, there is no difference between offering this and offering the two parts of the lost pilot as a single episode.

OK, I'm done. Go back to being excited about a 90 min TV show heralding the coming of full length movies.

You're right, but I still hold out hope that this is a step towards an expanded iTMS with feature films made available. Maybe you can speak to this better than I, being in the Baltimore area, but there are times when I don't want to spend half an hour (or more) wandering around a local retailer at 10:00 pm looking for a movie we want to buy.

How is Laurel, by the way? I almost went to school back there.

How can I put this: start offering content in countries besides the US

Seriously, I'm very interested in downloading television shows (not sure about downloading a movie, mind) but can't because all the content (excepting the Pixar shorts, of which I've bought 2) are only available to US customers.

My interest in downloading movies will very much depend on the price, speed and quality, plus the availability of suitable storage to archive the content. At the present time I am unconvinced but am willing to be swayed.

We have all of the television shows here in canada. It took a while though. Don't blame Apple. Blame your countries laws. I'm sure Apple would have shows up if they could. Here in Canada CRTC blocks Apple at first from being able to have the shows online.

Had to come, now bump the res to 720p...and just bump the price as well, then I will buy

720p I'd love. (1080p I'd marry.) But even at 720p and with my 300KB/s-average high-speed internet, a 2-hour movie is gonna take upwards of 5 hours to download. I wonder if I'd be willing to wait that long...

Edit: P.S. A 480p 2-hour movie looks to be about 2 hours to download for me, according to the numbers I'm crunching.

how long do u think before u can buy Pulp Fiction? that's my favorit movie and Handbrake wont put it into an MPEG-4... even after i did Mac the ripper 1st. (i want to put it on my ipod)

Here in the UK apple charges £1.89. That's pretty out of order cause $1.99 USD is about £1.15. But stil, £1.89 is fine by me, well worth it. And here's the big thing. If they really do offer a decent few movies at £1.89, or even £2.89 for all I care, and they increase the resolution a bit, then they will be in a good position here in the UK. To get good movies from Sky Box Office we pay £3.50+ and they're watch-once (well I guess you can Sky+ them).

Somebody needs to buy this for so we can find out how long it will take to download movies. Its about the same length as real movies so I'm sure it will be about the same.

Somebody pleeease start downloading this.

What are you talking about, we don't have any TV shows in the Canadian iTMS.

Maybe it's just in the Quebec store.

RE: High School Musical
