iWork and the like are still $9.99 in App Store for me in iOS 7. Why?
A date which isn't a qualifier. Not to mention it's not about when you bought the apps so much as when you bought your device. Buying an app even during Sept from a device activated before Sept doesn't count. Both have to be within the month.
So you aren't likely to get anything more than an email saying that there is no problem at all because you don't qualify. Course they won't phrase it that way. They will just send you an email with the terms for getting the apps for free.
Where I'm disappointed with iCloud is I own several iDevices and 5GB isn't always enough for backups when you have more than one device.
I called Apple and it turns out it was a refurbished phone but after registering my serial number on https://supportprofile.apple.com/ iWork, iPhoto and iMovie are now free in the app store![]()
I bought my iPad on the 30th as well. Bought pages the night I got home.
I'm not sure what that means. Where I'm disappointed with iCloud is I own several iDevices and 5GB isn't always enough for backups when you have more than one device.
So...back up to your computer instead?
This is a post-PC world*, I'm not supposed to need a computer.
iCloud is supposed to do my backups: for some weird reason they give me the same amount of space if I have one device or two (I've paid more for the two!) or if I have a 16GB model or a 64GB model (I've paid $200 more for the 64GB model).
I used to be happy to give my money to Apple for more storage, they called it iDisk. But now I can't store files (of my choosing) in the iCloud, and this is why we have services like DropBox (to store my files, of any type).

* For those of you that don't recall the "post-PC world" is a statement from Apple. Can't remember if that was one of the iPad keynotes but I think so.
5GB is not that bad, but it doesn't work when you have to backup both an iPhone and an iPad.
iCloud is a terrible service other than for backups, and I shouldn't have to buy a premium plan just to be able to get the most basic backup functionality out of it for my two devices.
And don't say "backup to your computer". iTunes is still one of the worst pieces of software ever made and I avoid using it like the plague. Also, I have an SSD and I don't want to waste 20GB of space on it just to synch my iOS device applications and backups.
If you use icloud just for backing up then create separate iclouds for each device.
Or, upgrade your icloud. Why does everybody expect everything to be free?
I don't think everybody's expecting it to be free, they're just expecting Apple to increase the storage slightly ever year as storage and bandwidth costs continue to decline every year. Apple won't pay more to increase this, so people are naturally expecting Apple to simply keep up the same profit ratio.
The point is they want you to spend more, not keep improving what is free. And what profit ratio is there when its free? With iWork now available via browser they are hoping to increase everyone's dependency and usage.
Yes, and how do they get people to spend more? By providing more value on the free stuff in the first place. That's how some businesses usually work. .
I'd totally pay for 50$ a year for iCloud plan if it includes a free 1GB increase every year and I'd be more encouraged to stay with Apple longer. But with only a fixed 20GB for $40 per year and I'm generating more stuff each year, I'm forced to use Dropbox, SkyDrive and so on, while only using 5GB plan to only store backups and nothing else. Each app I use, I look for other sync services and not iCloud.
Fully implement the iCloud system in OS X. Right now, you can store files in ~/Library/Mobile Documents and it'll sync to other Macs via iCloud. They need to start making it integrated as iCloud like Windows 8's Skydrive integration, not Dropbox.
This is a foolish statement.20GB/$40 = $2/GB. You are willing to pay $50 if they increase it by 1GB a year. It'll take 5 years before you are breaking even. I guarantee apple will up their storage plans as time goes on. I don't think they are ever going to tally the storage daily like google. Or even deal with 1GB increments. Apple will wait till the numbers are nice and round and make the new offerings. ie. 40GB/$40. They are also looking at average storage use. If their average customer needs 4.9GB. They are going to look at how to bump that average so the average customer is paying. If .01% of customers need 60GB, they aren't too concerned.
Finally, dropbox is 2GB free. Apple is 5GB free. And they have been that way for several years.
Wow, I missed the memo on that!
I've just been using DropBox etc, but that'll work for larger files even better!
You're saying I can just stick stuff in there and it'll sync?
Gary
And?
You bought your device before the cut off, so don't expect anything.
Truth is that Apple didn't have to roll the date back. They could have said it was only for iPhone 5s and 5c and future devices. But they did it to be nice, score a few PR points etc.
But if you don't meet the rules you don't meet the rules. If by some weird fluke you can get them for free etc be happy for the fluke. If there is no fluke, well you didn't qualify anyway.
