Well, we all knew this day would come

I'm not too surprised, really. Everything design-wise is centralizing around the iPad. iOS and MacOS are merging piece by piece. The PCI standard is slowly dying, with most pro interface companies having already released (or looking to introduce) thunderbolt connectivity by September. The new Macbook Pro introduced today is a truly professional machine. It is time to move on and embrace it - or we can choose to stay behind and bitch about it. I choose to embrace it. :apple:

I think, the best we can hope for is, a new Apple sticker and a different colored box.

Can we, at a minimum get a new [deleted] graphics card?

But... but... it's got a 5770! That's what everyone wanted, right?

Nice knowing you, Mac Pro.

Looks like I will continue with the Apple laptop + hackintosh combo for the indefinite future.

Is this part of the Grand 5 Year Plan Steverino left behind? If he were around Apple would have had these stinkin' chips (or BETTER) months ago by bludgeoning Intel until he had them, and he sure wouldn't have left out TB/USB 3.0/better video card, not to mention a little bit of a design tweak or three. Not good Tim, not good at all. Shameful in fact. May one drop on your foot someday as a reminder that you could have done a smidge better. Should have been a day to celebrate, instead it is somewhat mournful.

Apple will probably use the predictably and justifiably poor sales of this joke of an update to justify their killing of the Mac Pro. This is pathetic.

This time I agree with you guys. This is the kind of refresh they could have implemented a year ago when cpu prices dropped (and it was obvious new ones would be a while) rather than now, and somehow the 5870 remains an upgrade.

I'd say it's time we all learn to love Windows Linux:D.

They must be kidding. I've read this blog for years and never signed up...until today...and for one reason only...to say goodbye to Mac. To keep the pro users on the back burner like this and for so long when we're the ones who kept them alive years ago is a real classless move on thier part. I realize that the Mac pro is not their biggest money maker but ya know what, with 80 billion in cash reserves would it kill them to throw us pro users a bone? What, is it too expensive for them to continue investing in? Again, 80 BILLION in reserves! And if they aren't going to update it why not just say it? What's with all the secrecy? Nobody cares about the big reveal! They just want to know whats going on so they can plan. I know so many guys who already moved over to PC because they couldn't wait. Let me guess, Apple doesn't care about them, right? As long as they buy the phone. It's sad. Really sad. My post house was waiting on this update to update 6 towers from PC back to Mac...looks like its a PC update. I know, I know...as long as we buy the phone too, right?

A VERY cruel Joke..........

My editors are going to be very pissed. No more 17" MBP, and only THIS to the Mac Pros........

My business, Visual Electric Co., is now going 100% Linux. We'll make due with Cinelerra and Ardour.

This is just pathetic beyond words.......

When I heard the Mac Pros had disappeared off the Store, the excitement ramped up...

...finally... maybe a more compact Mac Pro, all the latest "IO" as Apple call it, Latest chips, including graphics... etc. Not hard to think up an easily attainable wish-list.

and what do we get?

A kick in the bollox is what we get, obviously the same people looking after the 80 billion dollars in the bank are the same a$$hole$ looking at the future of the Mac Pro...

It's not difficult Apple... A TOP END MAC! TOP END!
Not a thinner laptop, or a shinier all-in-one, or a smaller enclosure... top end.

Two years...

Been waiting a while for, er, well not this, anyway...

+1 to the sentiment. I was happy when I saw the "new" tag, clicked through and it took some digging to even find out what the hell was new.

I'd even not been concerned so much about the 5770 if it had up to date CPUs and motherboard ports. Ho hum.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha !

hahahahahahahaha,
I think Apple is joking... the real mac pro is coming in 5 min...

hum ??...
not yet ??...
hum ??...
waiting .... ?? .... ??

well, i think this is a bad joke... for real...

Who cares about processor if there is no SATA 6G/s, thunderbolt and ...

Well...

So I guess this is it, Apple is THE mobile computing platform.

Look at the macbook pro. I mean, if this is a professional machine, why the obsession with 'lighter, thinner', etc. Why not use that space to up the specs and performance. It's obvious their concerns are now for mobile, portable interfaces. Problem is, the people producing content for these interfaces won't be doing it on the Apple platform anymore. Now Mac's are consumable devices. Shame.

Can't someone at the WWDC complain to Apple in person? Does Apple realize what they just did? I like the fact that some still feel that a true update will happen in the future. Maybe there was a last minute glitch and the new Mac Pro will be this insane Mac that your an wear and be Iron Man.

I work with 'retina' resolution material all the time from my RED camera, and the current MacPros can barely handle it - pretty soon Apple is gonna be stuck with a bunch of high-res mobile devices and no 'content-creation' machines that can keep up... what a sad day.

I was ready to spend $8000 on this tonight and make a special trip to the US from Europe just to pick it up. Geez, what now?

I know I asked this before, but anyone have suggestions on the easiest way to transfer multiple terabytes of media from Mac-formatted hard drives to a Windows-based operating system? What's better, HP or Dell?
