I always heard those headphones were a problem. There is an adapter that allows you to use other headphones though. It does make it a little bigger, but that wouldn't be a big deal. http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-tapST...6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271715344&sr=8-6

what a joke adding another $30 to a barebones mp3 player you could have three used nanos for that price. ruining its design and aesthetics that made its desirable in the first place. Ill tick to my last gen shuffle ($25 off craigslist thanks very much)

*on the phone*

Rep: Okay, you're all set up.

Me: Okay, just to double check, it was noted that these were the Apple in-ear headphones, not the ones that came with the device (iPod Shuffle). I heard you said $21 so I just wanted to make sure.

Rep: Yes.

Me: Okay, great!

*Phone call ends after sincere departures*

So I go on the computer later to see:
Earphones with Remote (included with iPod shuffle (3rd generation)) Shipment pending
:(

How do we obtain replacements for the Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic? I go to the online assistant but it asks for a serial number.:confused::confused:

I called to ask the same question. You have to input a serial number of an iPod/iPhone. Even if they didn't come with the device (I have the same headphones as you) as there will be an option to select the Apple In-Ear Headphones.

And in response to my above post, I have to give Apple some props. I called and five minutes later I was talking to a supervisor who overrode the repair and replaced it with the correct headphone set, without the charge to my credit card. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the charge only temporary, assuming you return the defective headphones?

I felt a bit silly not realising I'd be stuck with the god awful apple headphones when I bought my new shuffle.

Thankfully belkin came to my rescue:

Now I have decent headphones to match. I barely even notice I've got it half the time. The storage space isn't great but is plenty for my commute.

I hated this thing. Very cheaply made just like the apple headphones. On the Belkin the wires came exposed but still worked. Only now it jacks up the sound through the headphones. Lasted ~1 week

On the Apple headphones, within one week, the wire pulled ~1/2 cm away from the controls. Because apparently the wire was being stretched to reach the controls? Now they are in the bottom drawer all beat up. And my iPod is in one of the serial number in the repairable range.

had this exact problem with my original iPhone 3GS headphones... i was able to get those replaced a few months ago at the Apple store, though.

Strange it is limited to iPod Shuffle headphones.
I'm on my 3rd pair with my 3GS. Everytime I have walked into an Apple Store with my faulty headphones, explained my issue & I'm handed a new pair - Which is cool but I think illustrates just how common this must be.

But will they replace my in ears that have a broken controller and are sometimes not even detected as having been plugged in?

Ok. Thanks!

Do you know if they will come with the three different sized earbuds? How would they know what size, otherwise?

Yes, it is. In the past I have had to call to get it removed, though. The system doesn't always seem to work.

No idea, sorry.

The Apple In-Ear Headphone? So long as your iPod/iPhone is under warranty it seems to be a no-questions-asked sort of deal.

all apple headphones are terrible

the only thing worse is the five dollar knock offs that fall apart faster than the apple version.

My iphone came with a set with the speakers out of balance. (that drove me insane for about two days until I replaced them.
All the others have simply fallen apart after a few weeks.

the imitations fall apart after a day or two.

Maybe your just heavy handed, or just got a crap one?

Mines been perfect for more than 5 months.

I live in the UK and there's an Apple Store in my town (I have two sets of headphones with this issue and my serial number is within the list).

Will they replace them at my Apple Store or do I have to find an 'Apple Authorized Retailer'?

Some people actually bought the shuffle?

that's my reaction too. i live in the bay area (apple central) and i never see the new shuffles around. i really wonder what their sales figures have been.

personally, i spent more to buy older technology so i could have the 2nd generation shuffle design, which was as wonderful as the current generation is terrible.

I received my replacement In-Ear Headphones today via FedEx. That's from a late night Monday placement, on my doorstep this morning at 10:00 a.m. Kudos Apple.

In the box were the headphones in a new case, replacement small and large ear buds, in a new case, and two of the tiny silver mesh screens. I put back into the box my headphones and my ear buds. I had already used my replacement mesh screens, so I couldn't return those.

New ones are great, compared to what I was working with.
