Only external expansion ? It won't look so cool with all the devices all around though... At least, are the internal parts upgradeable without external substitutes ?

Have to really look at this one!

Good for 10yrs? NOt sure, DDR3 instead of GDDR5! HMMM? lets look at the rest of the beast!

I don't think that's plastic it looks like metal to me

It has a layer of gloss on top of it( cause it looks to have that shine to it). I don't know of any metal computers that have a layer of gloss on it.....

yes, because pro users buy computers on looks.......

Apple is a premium company. They make premium products using premium materials. Unless it is carbon fiber, using cheap plastic is not premium. The only exception being is the upcoming low cost iPhone.... But, plastic on a $2500 machine? No excuse......

New mac pro, looks nice. For me it's too bad they don't offer a "low cost" version with more consumer orriented internals like core i7 cpu instead to keep the cost lower

It's not for you. Buy an iMac.

Made in the USA? That's cool! Too bad I don't have the $15,000 this will cost...

...Just joking. I hope it sells well. Anything to keep people employed.

I personally think it's super awesome, but I know the Mac Pro lovers aren't going to be happy. Expansion has moved external =|

They had me until they said that. I was starting to think I should've waited instead of buying the XPS for editing that I got a couple months ago after losing hope of an update, but as soon as they said the storage was external, I lost all interest.

Kinda defeats the point of me waiting. If I wanted to get a computer that I could add hard drives vi cables to outside, I would have just gotten a mac mini last year. Time to hit the refurbs.

x eleventy billion; my thoughts exactly.

It's the G4 Cube evolved. Except this time they don't need to sacrifice performance for size and appearance. The original Cube failed because it was underpowered, but 13 years of technological advancements have finally made this stuff possible again.

that's what I first thought when I saw the picture

Why do you think it's ugly?, i personally like it

it's plastic, it doesn't strike me as wow...it looks like an urn

Phil Schiller mentioned Expandability through external storage

Seems more complicated then it needs to be...plus expensive and i'm sure it will be limited to what HDD we can use...

Cost/performance

I use my Mac Pro to get work done. I don't really care how it looks.

My choice to buy will be based on how much more this costs over a comparable Hackintosh, factoring in the extra hassle of building and testing a Hackintosh rig against what it will cost to get my existing drives and peripherals working with the new Mac Pro.

If they want $3k, forget it.

By making expansions run off thunderbolt they are pretty much just squeezing the money right out of you.

I guess they had to do something to get people to adopt thunderbolt but still I feel bad for the people who actually need one of these.

There are some limitations on how much GDDR5 you can use, I don't remember what are those atm but I recall they had something to do with the maximum memory you can add or something

No, but many professionals move their machines around and even travel with them. Look online and you'll see many banged up mac pro's. I hope it's not plastic but it looks it.

try travelling with an imac then...

so strange, for years we had to read that Apple should bring out a new MacPro now we have it and have to read they should have kept the old one. -To some you can make it never right-.

For us pro's the performance is the only what matters, and that seems to be promising. Who cares about outside storage, (on my MBP 17 I have 48 TB connected via Thunderbold and that needs extension soon....not to mention our MacPros every single one has 60TB via eSata so Thunderbold 2 is highly appreciated)
