nVidia has drivers.![]()
You're joking but seriously, we're better of with an open language that works everywhere in the long run.
nVidia has drivers.![]()
Why would they? They already produce high end/high powered workstations, this is just apple playing catch up.Image
Coffee maker? Trash can? laugh all you want PC fanboys, you know Dell, HP and the rest will follow suit.
We should probably still have computers that take up an entire room. Who needs it to be smaller.
Don't worry, it's coming.Djreversal said:Just hope theres new of a new Logic Pro

As a music studio engineer, looking to upgrade our current Mac Pro, the new Mac Pro might be an economically turn off.
Our system needs two PCI-express slots and several harddrives for projects, sample libraries etc. Buying a Mac Pro, AND a PCI-express chassi, AND external harddrive chassi, might be waaaaaay to much money to spend.
Note that i wrote "might be". I sure do hope i.e. Magma chassis get alot cheaper along with other Thunderbolt devices.
I think Apple did a fantastic job with the design, but part of me still wants a machine that's three times the size (still smaller than the previous MacPro) with all the expandability that we've all wanted in a Mac system, at a modest Macintosh price.
Why would they? They already produce high end/high powered workstations, this is just apple playing catch up.
It looks good, though the limited expansion is a issue. ( my current work station has 4GPUs, 18 hard drives, 512mb of ram 6 processors and room for more ), I might consider it for a living room computer to replace my 2011 iMac
I don't want to ruin you expectations but those GPU will not be able to handle games, matter of drivers and architecture.
For me its a Love/Hate thing. I love it, but I hate it. The Design is nice, and I believe it is the feature of computing. However, I think its too soon. I personally still think we need internal expansion.
CPU: Single CPU setups only? The Limitations of this design are already showing. While Its just speculation its very likely.
GPU: Dual GPUs is nice, and I'm sure the FirePro is powerful, but we don't know what the exact model is atm. and I'm sure it will be outdated by the time it hits the shelfs considering how quickly GPUs get outdated.
RAM: Only 4 slots, DDR3 meh.
Thunderbolt 2, USB 3, Still has Ethernet thankfully, HDMI I like the ports. But I feel like its apple abusing there rights to thunderbolt to milk money rather then keeping with simple internal expansion and standard Hard Drives.
Apple is starting to go down hill again, While there known for bringing new technology and such to the mainstream market, I think there taking to many steps forward, too fast.
There are already thunderbolt expansion chassises in development that allow you to plug in PCI-EX graphics cards, so installing a new graphic card should be possible. Although it remains to be seen how much of a performance impact there will be. Although the Mac Pro may even let you change out the GPU like a lot of high end Windows laptops do now.
Thunderbolt expansion Chasis:

But as everyone is saying, it will be interesting to see how much this thing costs as most will probably need to spend at least $1000 on thunderbolt expansion.
Ok. How does the 3 internal HD that I have inside of my MP gonna work in this tube? Guess all data on those 3 HDs are now useless?
Professionals have time for hate? How professional!2. what if I HATE AMD ?
...
4. BLACK ? FOR REAL ? Apple Never Used black . I hate Black
Read the thread & calm down! Thanks!6. Plastic? REALLY?
You can connect the two computers together via Ethernet or Wi-Fi and transfer whatever data you need to the new machine when you buy it...
Time for Adobe to start porting it's software to Red Hat.
Lets say, it is three 2TB drives. Six terabytes of data could take more than a few second to transfer by WiFi. Remember, these boxes will only be around for ten years.
so strange, for years we had to read that Apple should bring out a new MacPro now we have it and have to read they should have kept the old one. -To some you can make it never right-.
For us pro's the performance is the only what matters, and that seems to be promising. Who cares about outside storage, (on my MBP 17 I have 48 TB connected via Thunderbold and that needs extension soon....not to mention our MacPros every single one has 60TB via eSata so Thunderbold 2 is highly appreciated)
You can update ram, SSD and maybe gfx card. You can have pci express external chassis and hard disk. You have 6 ThunderboltIt is like having 6 PCI express 8x.
Yeah, I think so, now I have to upgrade Flash again, I had just turned it off, and I was pretty happy that way.
Maybe this is the year to abandon Apple and Adobe.
My prob with the new iMac is no VESA mounting is possible, which is BS.
