I think there may be black goo in there, ala Prometheus (Alien, etc.) It's part of the master plot to destroy the planet! Noooooo!

Actually, it's pretty slick. Would fit well under a lot of desks. Less toe banging if you like to wear sandals.

What desk would it not fit under? A preschool desk?

This fits on top of any desk and sits below the height of any basic 20" monitor.

The GPGPUs alone would run you $3000.

The mentioned Streams of 4096 and maximum around 7TFLOPS of precision computing puts this combo at the FirePro S10000.

That presently goes for $3,199 on Newegg.

With a completely different cooling solution and dual on-board GPGPUs with so many stream processors and high computing outputs one expects the 6GB DDR5 shared memory on this GCN 2.0 architecture that is most certainly a custom design for Apple.

Most likely this is the Orlando Team working with AMD on this project.

I agree, I don't see this System starting under $5000+.

Ah you are right, I assumed that S1000X2 would be put into this but one of those is already dual GPU, so yeah. That's already 3000$. This thing will be way over 5k I think. Flash storage alone is around 1k and one Intel Xeon isn't less than 1k either.

Yeh but we will sure be able to update our facebook status faster....

Wow the pictures on Apple.com and the keynote is misleading.... A lot lighter and clearly metal in real life pictures. Where like I said, looked like plastic from the slide pics.

Maybe not quite the typical trash can but one of those slightly more elusive chrome plated push pedal pins.

This is one of the funniest looking Apple products I've seen. Is it a bin? Is it a toilet? Oh wait, it's a computer. :)

I like the design, but it just looks funny. :p

There's a lot more to the new Mac Pro than meets the eye..A LOT more.

There's no need to have a huge box sitting on the floor. This thing is only 9" tall and 6" wide.

Almost the same size as the new Airports..

Watch this year . It IS the year Thunderbolt becomes the norm for the Pro user.

I'll be getting one for sure.

I might add Open GL 4.0 is an added plus for these machines.

Apple doesn't update Mac Pro, Macrumors users complain,
Apple does update Mac Pro, Macrumors users complain.

The only thing worse than the complainers is the wise sages who feel the need to point it out all the damn time. We read the whiners too, we have eyeballs dude, your pointing it out is of no value, except to your own ego, which mistakenly grows larger when you highlight this amazing trend.

Will it come with a lid and pedal too or is that extra?

This preview checks all my boxes. I am concerned about my friends that need PCIe expansion. Will there be a native PCI expansion to an external box? I think it needs that. That site says external expansion boxes attach via TB2. After reading the tech comments about PCIe vs TB1 in threads here, I suspect it will be fine for functionality cards but not ones that max out the bandwidth.

D 6.6" x H 9.9".

I think this is a sleeper media center PC with the native support for 3x 4K displays. Now where to plug them in . . . (802.11ac?)

Rocketman

Sure, if you are the kind of person who spends $25k on a 4K 60"+ Flat Panel for your home, I could see this additional $5k-$10k HTPC for you.

Ethernet port would have been nice

I know there's an adapter, but why sacrifice a TB port and require an adapter for something you KNOW you'll need? Why create unnecessary wifi traffic?

Ethernet and power plug should be in the base, the rest of the ports should swivel like a lazy susan (switch from motion sensor to another sensor then). Or somehow there should be a division between -never need to see it ports, -sometimes need to see it ports, and -always want it accessible ports.

Battery backup would be nice.

How does the motion sensor work?

Anyways, do want.

I've been waiting silently to see what they've been teasing at for so long now. I thought for sure that with Steve gone, they'd finally release a modest, modular "xMac" after all these years.

Instead, they release a MacMini Pro.

For years, I've been hoping for a simple desktop from Apple that would grow with my needs. I've never needed a workstation, but occasionally I like to replace my graphics card, or throw in an extra hard drive. I've needed a Mac Pro Lite. Apple consistently refused to deliver.

I've tried hackintoshes for the past 8 years, but they're always too much work to maintain, and too unstable. Eventually I just gave up.

And I didn't end up settling for an iMac, a Mac Pro, or a Mac Mini.

After DECADES of being an Apple fanboy - believing in the company when no one else did (much to the ridicule of all my friends) - Apple has made a Windows user out of me.

I would've never believed it to be possible.

Hate on me all you want. You are no longer my people.

-Clive

Not a hater Clive - but you definitely need to think about the specs.

It's very updateable with Thunderbolt.

It's Thunderbolt 2 and Pci-e Gen 3 so massively fast and will trounce most workstations out there.

4 X 4K monitors! Nothing can do that.

External drives are way better way of working.

The only queries I have is how much Ram and Main HD can you have and are the Graphics cards swappable - I am guessing yes - BUT they will have to be bespoke... but then again I could mount a external thunderbolt PCIe and stick 4 titans in there.
