My wife got a refurbished Ipad two weeks ago so that she would stop stealing mine... and now we just got $50 back from Apple because of the price difference.

Thanks Steve! You had me at Hello (...I'm Macintosh. It sure is great to get out of that bag).

Note: I know three people in my office that bought a wifi version and then traded them in for 3g versions. I don't know anyone that has flat out returned them for any reason or had to get them replaced.

Letting them go at a discount. Sounds like 2nd generation iPad is just weeks away..

Do the refurbished iPads have a retina display?

Are you for frickin real?

No iPad (or other device of similar size) has a retina display, and next year’s models are unlikely to either.

At 10” screen sizes, the cost would be huge. (But they’re still good screens, and not viewed as close-up as a hand-held screen, so retina sharpness isn’t as useful. Still would be great to have someday!)

what?!
what was the purpose of asking that?

was it just to get people to fight and argue about the term retina display?

The specifications for the refurbished units are identical to those of the new units which you can view right here.

It never ceases to amaze me that such a large proportion of MR posters lack the ability to sense irony/sarcasm/humour.

So just let me help you all out here: He was kidding.

LOL! Limited Time Pricing! I bought an Ipod Nano through the refurb store. It had special "Limited Time" pricing. It sold for the limited time price for many months until the product was superseded by a newer model. The price never went back up.

It looks like they are passing on the 15% re-stocking fee they may get from returns. Original price $499 -- 15% re-stocking fee brings it down to $424.15.

Yes,but more than 4.

My refurbished iPad came on the 26th of November. The second iPad is still months away, which is too long to wait for me. Absolutely no regrets with my purchase.

really tempting
but new iPads are just a few months away. Spend 70 bucks more... get a camera, better display, possibly improved battery

no brainer IMHO

Dang, 32GB already sold out.

Somebody must be buying them ;)

New or not, the iPad was just released in my country, so even buying one from the US, importing it to Europe and paying postage and import taxes, it still winds up $125 cheaper (for the 32GB version).

Is there some manufacturing problem than causes DOAs or breaking after brief usage? And now Apple have to move those as refurbished by offering special prices?

99.9% of refurbished Apple products never left the factory as "new" products. Generally, somewhere along the line, they failed a quality control test, so they were diagnosed and repaired before they left the factory. Those that do leave the factory, but end up as refurbished, mostly likely had packaging damaged during shipment (even if the product wasn't damaged).

Products returned as defective are given a depot-level post-mortem and are taken out of circulation. Products returned as open-box (for a 10% restocking fee) are, for the most part, resold as "Refreshed" at a 10% discount off normal price.

Does anyone know what return policy is on this re: Christmas? Most retailers extend return policies for the holidays. I was on the fence about buying one for my husband and this price drop got me off the fence. But he might not actually want it, and I am hoping he could return it if that is the case.

I purchased a 32GB Wifi Model and just shipped this morning from the factory in China. Should be here on the 14th. Can't wait! This iPad is gonna hold me over till the iPad 2. Resell this one and buy the next generation. Already saved 100$ so it should prolly sell for what i paid for it.
