Apple Officially Announces 8:00 AM Local Time Launch for New iPad on Friday, March 16

Oh I see Apple,,,, I pre-order and pay almost $900 for an iPad only to have someone walk into an Apple store, Bestbuy, Wal-mart, At&t or Verizon store and have their iPad before mine is even out for delivery. I say Apple should deliver all Pre-orders on Thursday!

You preorder for the luxury getting the exact model you want and not waiting on line.

If you go into your tracking info on fedex.com, you can get them to hold your package at a nearby FedEx/Kinko's location for free. They will hold it at a sorting facility too if you wish, but I bet those FedEx/Kinko's retail stores are much more convenient for everyone.

But the FedEx website says:

If your shipment is eligible, FedEx Express will attempt to have your shipment available for pickup by the next business day after the estimated delivery date.

Not worth the risk of possibly having to wait until Monday or even later!

Well, if you don't feel comfortable doing this, don't. I don't want to be blamed LOL. But I read that before too, months ago. And I've held AT LEAST ten fedex packages from Amazon and others, and they've always had it available for pickup the day of scheduled delivery by 10:00AM, so I am not worried. But if this is the one time.... That's tricky wording though. They just might be covering their butts.

FedEx Overnight Before 3pm

The Apple lines are crazy where I live, so I for one am happy to have it delivered to my door. Major problem is the wife is going to be home and sign for it, soooo it might already be unboxed and setup with her accounts and apps,

Mine is sitting in Ontario, California on standby for overnight delivery to Phoenix. Apple staging pre-order iPad's at locations across the United States for delivery on the 16th is an amazing logistical effort.

The delivery says it's guaranteed before 3pm, and typically FedEx comes earlier than UPS in my area. So I'd expect the package to be delivered between 10am and 12pm. I've got a doctor's appointment at 3pm, so having a new iPad (3rd Gen) while sitting in the waiting area would be great.

Unlimited 4G Data Plans with AT&T for NEW iPad

Just got word from a friend at AT&T that those of us with unlimited 3G data plans will be grandfathered into unlimited 4G data plans for the "new" iPad. Stoked!

This is why I think people that pre-order should have got theirs a day early. We ordered first but we'll get ours last on launch day.

I pre-ordered a 16GB, but was planning on braving the lines for a 32GB (or maybe even a 64GB-doubtful).

Good news: I have an interview for a new job.
Bad news: its Friday at 9AM.

I preordered on launch day. It says it is shipped but UPS does show me where it is and say it is waiting for the package . I hope I get it on Friday. Doesn't matter what time. I wish it was fedex

FedEx's hub is Memphis, TN.

All Apple products are shipped to Memphis well before the ship date, and FedEx has a contract with Apple to only deliver these Apple products on the requested date (March 16). If FedEx delivers these early, there is a penalty in the contract and FedEx loses money. It's in FedEx's best interest to abide by the Apple contract. Apple is one of FedEx's biggest clients and doesn't want to lose them to UPS.

FedEx has multiple hubs. Memphis is their busiest, but not ALL Apple products go through Memphis.
