Tim Cook should just resign, this is embarrassing for Apple. first the facetime bug now this, apple is finished

Now I have pretty much no reason to get the wireless charging AirPods. I thought they had a working prototype at the presentation that they showed off at the product reveal. That product wasn't good enough?

False. iPad pro is great. AirPods are great (even though I can’t use them). Apple Music is great.

I'm not sure why you say the AirPods are great. All the poor sound quality of the cheap bundled ear pods. another battery to remember to charge, a non-replacable 3-year battery rendering them garbage. For the low, low price of $160.

Apple music and iPad pro don't seem great to me, but I am so far from the target market that I won't really comment (I wish others here would take that high road). But I love headphones and own 3 pair over $300 and several more in the $50-150 range. And AirPods are horrible.

Don’t fell into this trap people .
This is a set up for April Fools .

No way. I just submitted an amazon order for two charging pads and many others will this weekend. If this is an April fools setup it’s even worse than announcing AirPower without having working prototypes.

I hope that in the next 10 years the technology will improve enough so  or anyone else can bring something similar to the non released AirPower to the market. Personally I think in 10 years from now in the future AirPower will happen. So here is to 2029-2030. The year when  will finally launch AirPower.
10 years from now all your tech will charge from anywhere, all the time. No cables, silly pads, or other nonsense. Airpower will be as obsolete as a floppy drive.

It does make you wonder how safe these knock off airpower looking clones are that you see on Facebook and eBay? If Apple can’t make it work (and they’ve got all the money in the world) I’d be very nervous about having one of those on multi device wireless chargers on my nightstand!

Ikea sells theirs for $15 for single and about $60-$80 for a triple charger. Ikea has very, very deep pockets to sue, so I'm pretty sure they do their homework on safety.

AirPods are great and 160 is not that much. From my personal experience, they sound a little bit better than the wired version you get with your iPhone. Very convenient. I have no complaints.

I always thought that the Air Power mat was too small anyway, looked very cramped with those three devices on there.
If they made 3-4 separate non-overlapping coils in a larger mat it probably would of worked out.

Hopefully they go back to the drawing board & focus on an actual practical wireless charging solution - a STAND, where you can charge & use your iPhone at the same time.

But you’d want to quick charge it whilst using it, so that it actually charges...this is where the issue lies I feel...although, with less coils for a phone-only wireless charger, it may be easier to implement?

Apple really needs to remedy this - reverse charging on the next iPhone (or even better - iPad!) has gotto impress...won’t get my hopes up though...

This is absolutely crushing. I was refreshing the Apple store hoping to catch when they go on sale, and then Apple drops the news. This completely ruins my weekend for me, if not the entire month. But imagine how Apple engineers feel.. they worked long and hard, in the end it wasn't good enough. As bad as we all feel now, there are hundreds of people at Apple who feel worse. Thanks for trying guys, keep at it.

And to the trolls who say "Apple can't make a wireless charging mat, but competitors can" -- the difference is that Apple actually adheres to safety standards. Unlike a certain company famous for making exploding phones, Apple does not release crap. If you're planning on buying a wireless charging mat from anyone, you had better think twice.

Poor Junebug. Sorry the weekend is shot. But you probably would have wasted it anyway clicking refresh every minute.

Apple is a gigantic company. The people working on cars, Apple TV+, card, etc. aren’t the people working on macs, iPhones, or iPads. There is no reason they can’t do all these things. The problem with apple right now is Tim Cook is willing to settle for less than perfect and allows screw ups like the MacBook keyboard to become shipping products.
That's not the point. They have teams working on all things but it seems the direction of the company is a bit lost. They are trying to focus on too many things and losing track of what's is important and the DNA of the company. Blunders like the keyboard as you mentioned, iPad pro that bend and now Airpower are just among few things that should not have been issues. Don't even get me start of the state of the Mac.
Apple need to refocus just like the way Steve did when he returned. Tim wants to do too many things.

Poor compared to a $4000 set of audiophile headphones maybe. The definition of "poor" is clearly a moving, personal definition. However, convenience is undeniable coupled with good enough sound quality. And if you ding the airpods for battery life, you are also dinging all of it's brethren in the same ilk. To me the $160 is totally worth it. To each their own.

I guess the wireless version is no longer chargeable on the airpower, is the common thread here.

Apple used to be an industry leader in innovative tech. They should have figured out it wasn't possible before they announced it, now they just look completely inept. They may not care though since it's obvious they are more interested in services now. In fact they can take their money to the bank, literally now.

I'm just guessing that there was some fundamental problem that they thought they could solve but decided they couldn't. It was kind of brave of them to cancel it instead of putting out a failing product.
