Can we all stop with the licensing idea now please.

NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. End of discussion.

Yes! Finally the voice of sense!

All I gotta say is Ubuntu better finish getting its crap together and get Adobe Creative Suite and Netflix developed for them, because I'm seriously headed in their direction.

Yes Abobe is the main reason I moved to (mostly) using Macs at home. If they had CS5 for Linux I'd still be on Linux. (Yes I know I can run VMware on Linux, I do that.)

Oh another moronic post saying this. Won't happen.

First of all, don't call me a moron. I was around for the first wave of clones.

Second, the original program was terminated because it was cutting into Apple's already pitiful sales rather than expanding the market share like planned. Now the Mac is hot, and people want them. There's a premium to owning Apple hardware that other vendors wouldn't be able to match, but it would help them expand by getting into enterprise (maybe) and developing markets.

The font is different also. It's bolder. I wonder if the typeface changed, or just the weight.

I am only okay with this if it becomes the only OS used on the planet (destroys all other OS's). Otherwise, I don't want Apple to license the OS again.

To me this seems a little bit like calling a new car model "car 1". Don't like it.

You call it ridiculous, I call it something worthy of speculation.

I'm not claiming it will happen, but with Jobs gone, anything is possible.

Yep, when Apple is going to make a big move like this, they just tell us outright — right to our faces. :roll eyes:

If they were going to do this, they would keep it secret until they had worked out all the details.

I wont post the Big Brother pic but...really this is the future Apple is heading toward:

OSX? Meaning OS 10? "Hi, I'm using Operating System number 10"...? What does this even mean ?

Seems pretty self-explanatory no? Though I sincerely doubt anyone would be so literal to say Operating System number 10 anymore than people today say Macintosh Operating System number 10. How many people do you see people type Mac OS X in online forums? How many people say Mac OS X? Most people I know simply say they use a Mac or OS X.

iCal is "Calendar", iChat is "Message", adresses is "Contact" (ok this one doesn't change much) but can it be more stupid?

I don’t particularly care one way or the other, but I want consistency. It makes no sense having Mail and iCal. It makes even less sense to have Mail/iCal on OS X while having Mail/Calendar in iOS.

Gatekeeper is a closed ecosystem that will prevent all basic users to download plugins, apps, packages, outside of the Appstore by default ?

No, Gatekeeper is an opt-in security system that defaults to a decent compromise for 90% of computer users. I suspect any user needing a more advanced app is sufficiently proficient to head to System Preferences and tick the right box.

I've never seen such a dumbing down of any OS ever.

Really and what do you use your computer for? What can’t you do in Lion that you could in Snow Leopard?

Here’s a quick rule of thumb for all the Chicken Littles out there, you can genuinely start to worry when Apple removes Terminal.app until then

A name is a rose, and it only smells as sweet as you are.

Is the main hard drive icon still named "Macintosh HD"?

I don't want my iPhone to talk to my Mac, I don't want everything in the cloud. I want my devices to be separate and do what they each do best. This fully integrated world Apple is trying to build will be it's downfall.

You could not be more wrong if you tried.

Oh wait....Steve Ballmer is on the line for you, will you accept his call?

Strategy

Perhaps Apple's strategy is to usher in all those millions and millions of IOS users to the Mac, by making the OS similar to use. Similar look and feel and functionality, thereby increasing the sales of the Mac, not doing away with it.. Just a thought..

You, Sir, have come closer to the truth than anyone on this forum!

I hope we have the options to:

Turn off auto-save and versions
Turn off the notification center
Uninstall ANY app using the launchpad
To not use iCloud

If we do, I will buy and hope that it's not $30 again (since they are going to update iOS-like).

Why the hell is everyone moaning, like the world is about to end?

Lion is just fine. I haven't had any massive problems with it and it CERTAINLY is NOT Apple's Vista. I mean what the hell, these people who are saying that are just spreading fear for no reason/need.

I for one prefer using Lion to Windows 7. Lion and even Mountain Lion makes Windows 7 and 8 bite the dust altogether.

+1. At least installing and using Unbutu seems now possible for non experts like me. Now just get a range of Office, Media and Home software and it's good enough to switch.

Did Systems 7 8 and 9 have 'Mac' before the System section,

ie Mac System 7, Mac System 8, etc....

If not then there is no reason to moan.
