Oh - So I guess the people that have posted on MR and other places are lying. That said, I can't show you one that has the problem as mine does not. My I4 is rock solid. I have not dropped one call.

Nope, not lying. Just not reproducing the same issue. The iPhone 4 is flawwed in a way that the previous models weren't which is why you won't find a video of a 3GS going from 4 bars to no signal with a toch of a finger. Your iPhone 4 isn't rock solid, it's just as defected as everyone else and you will notice it one day and then jump on the wagon. Until then enjoy your 'rock solid' phone.

Buy a different phone if you don't like this one, folks. No-one's making you buy an iPhone.

My 3GS does the exact same thing all these 4's are doing.
Never noticed it till now though.

signal drops on all phones

from nokia to htc to droid, they all lose signal once you cover the phones. GET THAT TO YOU HEADS.
there are many paid blogers in the media at work by nokia, goggle, rim, etc....
How else you will steal ip4 demand....
So this is how great tech companies play once they start losing market share.
SAD....

I was on the phone last night in my home and it dropped on me 3 times. I am living in the middle of Manhattan and never had dropped calls on my 3GS in my home before. I did used to have problems with the iPhone 3G before AT&T upgraded its 3G network here (no issues with the 2G iPhone).

I think it's fair to say that this issue is isolated to the iPhone 4. It sucks that Apple is so proud of their unique engineering of their antenna design that they can't admit a critical fault. I did order bumpers for our phones to solve this issue, but I would've liked them to at least come clean.

All these cover ups and basically shifting the blame to the consumers is just plain wrong. I see the tides turning on Apple, slowly but surely. They will probably have a few more years of great years before some cooler company takes over the "hip" role as Apple moves closer and closer to what everyone think Microsoft is (even though the way Apple is leveraging its power seems way worse than what MS ever did).

Sorry for the rant, but we're not idiots out here. Unfortunately there's not a comparable product out there that can compete with the iPhone and they know it, therefore they can afford to treat the consumers this way.

This is very Wrong

I really can NOT believe Apple handling this issue like we are a bunch of fulls

This letter from Apple is just a way of trying to hide the real problem !
i waited to see if they will find a solution for this issue but this DO NOT SOLVE A THING !!
You all watched this CLIP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNmXrVNeGzs&feature=player_embedded

So how Apple Suggested "FIX" going to handle that !!!!!!! ????

:confused::apple::confused:

Return in restock fee is 10% and you ahead to it when you bought it.

Speak english and there is something wrong with the phone......Att does not charge a fee when there is something wrong except Apple won't admit there is an issue.

Returning the phone is not enough.

Apple will simply sell it to someone else as a refurb and make a profit - that's make yet another level of profit - from the second selling of the same device, and some other poor schmuck (or rich one, who knows) will end up with exactly the same situation you did before returning the phone.

It's not enough.

Fair enough! In addition to returning the iPhone, I suggest you go in the backyard and flog yourself with the garden hose! :D

Huh? How is it another level of profit if Apple is refunding the original profit they received?

Not what I was hoping for

I was hoping to get an answer for why I'm dropping calls and losing data connections in my house when I hold the phone in my left hand-when none of the previous iPhones gave me any trouble. I've dropped more calls this week than I ever remember dropping in a year with the 3gs.
So this fix doesn't even address my issue, unless this algorithm also causes connections to drop. My knee-jerk reaction is that they are fixing a non-issue and publicly ignoring the real issue. After all, if this is an issue all the iPhones have had, why only the outcry now? I had to experience the problem myself to believe it, but now I'm definitely a believer.

I love all the so called experts on here commenting that it's hardware not software. Like they know anything! If you don't like your phone return it and shut up! I'm sick of hearing all of you complain like a bunch of babies! I haven't ran into one person who has had reception issues.

I was hoping this statement would make me less hungry. But in reality I'm even more hungry than I was when I first read it.

Bah Apple.

Perhaps users should destroy their phones in protest? What are you suggesting?

Well if you haven't 'ran into one person who has had reception issues' then I guess the problem doesn't exist. And you complain about other people pretending to be experts.

I have held off buying the iphone4 until this issue is fixed, if everyone with the signal problem returned their phones then apple would have to do something about it.

So why doesn't everyone return their faulty phones?

Because my Iphone 4 has better and more reliable reception than my 3G did.

Not to mention amazing display, faster processor, more capacity, more ram, much better battery life, and no dropped calls.

Are you a scientist with expertise in rf reception?

Are you an engineer with intimate knowledge of the inwards of iPhone os?

Not worth the time answering to the likes of you...

Oh, God! Are you?

It seems that even Apple Inc forgot to ask a "scientist with expertise in rf reception" and none of their engineers "with intimate knowledge of the inwards of iPhone os" picked up on the matter.

Now I feel bad that I took the time "answering the likes of you".

This is not good enough Apple. Is it a display issue when the call drops? Is it a display issue when the phone goes to voicemail when receiving a call?

Display issue, my arse. I am starting to get annoyed now. I have contacted Orange and arranged for my iphone 4 to be returned.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!WELL SAID

Exactly Wrong, and poorly stated. I can easily demonstrate a complete loss of data transmission as well as drop a call simply by holding the iPhone in my left hand, not "death Gripping" it as Apple has now marketed the incorrect position to use a phone, but simply holding it as I have for every cell phone I have owned for the past 20 years.

I don't give a crap about how many bars are shown, although this does give us a little insight into further BS from Apple, as without this issue showing up I guarantee they would be touting how many bars show up on the new iPhone, but now that it is biting them in the ass, they are claiming "Oh, sorry, we used the wrong algorithm".

No one with this issue cares about the bars, they care about dropped calls and lack of data transmission when they hold the phone.

How is that for clear logic?

lol, want to meet me? I got a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and no matter what way i hold it, cover it etc, the bars DO NOT go down... im also a HUGE apple fan but this isnt cutting it so just admit that apple is in denial. and another thing, If this keeps up, ill jst say *** apple and go get the Nokia N8 Symbian 3.

Well, now that we know their position can we just move on. Basically, the reception is not getting better, it will just be displayed more honestly. Either buy a case (which helps but probably not as much as you think) or return it. From his day on you know he deal, so ideally the constant whining should end.

Huh? How is it another level of profit if Apple is refunding the original profit they received?

my thoughts exactly.

yes they will resell the phone on as profit, but the original user will get a refund. you dont magically make another profit amount on the same phone.

For those of you that`s having problems and don`t want a bumper : return the phone....

As long as the Fix from :apple: is just the bars ,and not anything else
touching the lower right is still gonna cause trouble I´m afraid

Are you kidding me? You're on a forum about iPhones and you clicked on a thread concerning an iphone problem that many are experiencing, and you're annoyed to read about people's problems??? THEN DON'T READ IT. CLICK SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Honestly, you piss me off way more than anyone else
