Isn't it even more asinine to complain about someone complaining about a defective product that you, yourself, don't find defective?

Not when the issue has become so overblown that I can't come to the forum and NOT see 5 new threads about it, nor get away from being told that I'm a fanboy for LIKING my iPhone 4.

The problem with returning it is that if someone no longer owns the phone, another complainer will come along saying, "I BET YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE ONE SO WHY ARE YOU WHINING ABOUT IT?!?!"

Don't keep returning it until you get angled just be a real person return and take your money elsewhere. I dis it with my nexus one I hated the battery and the android market so I returned it. I didn't sue or cry I just returned it and bought a iPhone 4. You do it to and stop all this nonsense

You also have not been a loyal Android customer for 20 years, and helped Apple create it empire by actively promoting it's products and converting friends, family and colleagues to Apple, iOS and OSX, so you had no skin in the game like many of us do.

Anyone returning to AT&T

Please post about experiences in returns of this defective product to AT&T. I will be going in as soon as my 3GS syncs back (I had wiped it). The goals obviously are a complete reversal of having gotten the defective product at all:
reversal of full cost without restock fee including taxes.
reversal of AT&T's 'upgrade' fee
resetting of contract expiration date to previous value.
reset of new equipment 'upgrade' date to previous value.
(be warned this will be the original date most likely, not the special 'we are letting all with upgrade dates in 2010 upgrade to the iP4).

I will take mine in with the duct tape still on to emphasis that the phone doesn't work properly without some sort of case. It easily peels off without residue so it won't invalidate the return.

It is possible that they will suggest a case and I will point out that there isn't one in the box and Washington state consumer law can't sell an 'as is' device that requires more purchases to function, particularly when that adds 10% to the cost of a functioning device. They may then do what  oddly refuses to do - give me the 10¢ worth silicone in leu of return. Not sure if that would be adequate - should I take a defective product that can be made functional by accessories or should I return it and wait for the inevitable release of an oddly 'there was no problem but see how this design doesn't have that problem' revision down the road?

man it takes a long time to restore 32GB via USB 2.0

Since when did we start teaching chimps to use cell phones? Planet of the Apes come to mind and I'm frightened. Anyway, everyone who is unhappy with their phone simply needs to return it. The end. Now, we can all get back to actual work.

Let's be clear. There is ONLY one Football. And that sir starts in September.

not really.... they should call the one that starts in september hand ball... you are holding the ball for the majority of the time... There is only one football, and the world cup is going on right now...

the other football is gay, and there is ONE country in the world that plays it.

Interesting... so this fix is to show correct bars. Correct me if I am wrong here, but wasn't ATT advertising "5 bars in more places" in recent ad campaigns? What will this iPhone fix do for that?

Uggh, what a mess...

I am a righty with a clear preference for holding the phone to my left ear, thus the lefty deathgrip affects me. A case seems to have resolved the issue for me. But, note that even with a SW fix, the deathgrip will continue to impact us lefties unless we encase our prized possessions.

Add to it, the Micro Cell solution appears to be severely flawed. Calls tend to move between Micro/Macro cell as signals fluctuate, and calls often drop following the handoff to Macro cell.

All in all, ATT has some real issues with call dropping. If VZ actually picks up iPhone next year, it could very well be the deathknoll for the ATT/Apple partnership.

******** I have driven Subaru all my life
My last one had problems so I sold it and changed to Honda. And that's a car not just a cellphone. Return it and be happy.

Have a source to back up your claims ?

Do you have a source indicating there are over 850k people experiencing a problem? He is stating that phone is working well and in many cases better for most people. There has been no evidence to indicate this is not the case.

If you have some evidence showing that 850k people have iPhone 4s that are either unable to make calls or dropp an abnormal number of calls, I would love to see it.

We will be waiting..

Found a source yet ?

I'm amazed that *anyone* is defending Apple here.

Guess a whole lot of you need to step away from the kool-aid.

Yeah, you are right, never complain, just spend your time on forums posting "Return it", what a moron.

name-calling.. sigh.

and I'm at work.. it's a ghosttown. big difference between me not having anything to do at work and you all complaining from moms basement..

no because some people have been claiming they have no signal loss no matter how they hold it, so i want one of these models.

This reception issue depends, presumably, on the raw signal strength and particular cell tower in question. My fiance (user "f00f" on these forums) conducted a little experiment with both our iPhone 4's last night.

Both of our phones suffer from death-grip-induced signal loss at various locations here on Long Island. Last night we went to the Apple store in search of cases for our phones. All of the demo iPhone 4's in the store have 5 bars and cannot be death-gripped down to 1 bar. So he tried death-gripping both of our phones while in the store (in close proximity to the demo phone area). Result? 5 bars. They didn't drop in the slightest. There's likely a microcell nearby the Apple store location but we couldn't confirm it, having asked a few of the store employees. Where ever it is it's nearby the demo phones because after walking to the very front of the store to cash out (furthest point from the demo area), he was able to induce death-grip bar-droppage once again.

I don't think anyone is convinced this is merely a problem with the bar display and software algorithms. We certainly aren't and can't believe the balls Apple possess to assume their customers are utter morons.

Apple has these options.

1) FIX THE DAMN THING
2) TAKE IT BACK AND PAY COMPENSATION FOR CAUSING STRESS TO PEOPLE AND MISLEADING
3) STEVE APOLOGIZES AND TAKES BACK HIS WORDS THAT HE MADE ON ANNOUNCEMENT '"BEAUTIFUL, MAGICAL, CRAP CRAP CRAP"
4) RECALL ALL IPHONE 4s

Here's the problem with what you said... It does function. It may not live up to your specifications for functionality, and as such you're welcome to return the device. The fact of the matter is, forums are usually full of people complaining - now there sure as hell aren't 1.7 million people all saying they have reception issues, so I will go out on a limb and make the assumption that the vast mojority of iP4 users are happy with their experience, and don't have issues with the phone.

The problem with people, is that we bitch about things, but we don't all come together and talk about how great something is. Then things look terrible because there's "all these people who have problems" when in reality it's a small percentage of the overall user base.

Uhhh so by your logic who has been designing the antennas before this?

So, Apple could not be hiring additional engineers, since they already have engineers? Did it ever occur to you that they might need more engineers? Do you also think that Apple has no need to hire any new programmers, since they already employ programmers? That no company could ever need to hire any new employees, since they obviously already employ people? By your logic Microsoft would still have only their original six programmers, since "they don't have to hire programmers, since they already have programmers"

Your logic continues to be flawed.

Now u have a choice!!!

Ok, this is for all the people who has talking **** about the iPhone, if ur not happy with ur phone... return it and shout ur pie hole!!!
