Apple today shared a press release highlighting its various Veterans Day initiatives, including a new Activity Challenge on the Apple Watch and an extended four-month Apple Music trial for veterans in the United States.

Today, Apple Watch users in the United States can earn a limited edition Activity award and animated iMessage stickers in honor of Veterans Day. To participate, users must record any workout of 11 minutes or more.

Veterans who sign up for Apple Music for the first time throughout the month of November will receive an extended four-month free trial in the United States. Apple Music typically offers a three-month free trial for new subscribers.

Apple is also highlighting veterans-related content in the App Store, Apple TV app, and Apple Books app, and made a donation to Team Rubicon.

This tropical storm ETA, now a hurricane will provide some bad weather for my location today. Not sure I will be outside long enough to get my 11 min in for this award.

Any 11 minute workout counts. Do some yoga or something - there are plenty of beginner level yoga apps out there :)

I was lucky enough to get a 25-minute walk in before the rain hit where I'm at.

How is Apple identifying who's a veteran and who's not? Does it apply only to US servicemembers or do people commemorating Remembrance Day around the world also get in on the deal?

I have my own Remembrance Day every year on 6/6 to remember D-Day. Usually I spend some time thinking about how grateful I am to the greatest generation and their sacrifices for us all. I’m Swedish, and my country was weak and acted cowardly during WW2. And I feel grateful that other nations kept Sweden from becoming a nazistate. No achievement in my phone is required. Thank you.

Is there nothing that doesn't have to be turned into a consumer event? To me, Remembrance Day is about recognition of those who've died, not a few discounts and offers for those serving. Sure, you can offer those any other time you like, but maybe just focus on the more important things once a year, and do it with a bit of respect and decorum?

I'm glad we don't do sales and use remembrance for marketing in Canada.

That is very off-putting.

Remembrance Day in Canada, such as you are observing today, is for your war dead. That is not what Veterans Day in the U.S. is for: Memorial Day is for that. Veterans Day is to acknowledge the service of ALL Veterans, living or not.

As a veteran myself, I find a lot of these offerings off putting. Let us be honest most places are doing it for PR only and the offerings suck to be honest. I like the offering from my local bar. 2 free beers and and a free dozen wings.

Did someone say, free beer? LOL! Have a great Veterans Day. Hooah.

Here in the U.S. we have two days: one to remember and one to acknowledge. Memorial Day is our day to remember those who gave all, the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans Day is for ALL vets, living or not. I see no harm in acknowledging the service of those who served. But I do agree that Remembrance Day/Memorial Day should be a solemn day and not anything else.

Anyone else not able to see this reward? Looks like all of my special holiday rewards vanished since I updated to iPhone 12 and apple watch 6.

How long ago did you switch? I see see them on my SE2 and S2 watch.
About 2 weeks ago when the 12 came out. Who knows maybe when I get the Pro Max this weekend it might magically work again. I'm assuming its a bug like the iOS 13 one, just kinda sucks that'll I'll probably not see them until its caught and fixed by Apple.

I’ve had earned challenges take up to three days to appear.

Thanks for the explanation.

So the idea behind the Veterans day sales is that they are supposed to be a discount as a thank you to those who are serving?

I'm wondering about those vets who lost limbs, or for whatever reason cannot do a "workout of 11 minutes or more". 🤔
