My 13 Pro is a beast and works swimmingly. Sure, there's bugs but they're not near as serious as they're made out to be around here.

I'm sure Steve is perfectly happy in whatever afterlife found him.
The problem is, there weren't as many bugs. You bought an Apple product because everything just worked. That's just not the case anymore. I have a 13 Pro Max and my phone is still unresponsive to my touch at times in some instances. I wanted to pull my hair out setting up my Apple Watch (series 7) and updating my iPad Pro was a nightmare because it got stuck in recovery mode and I had to completely set it up again. My iMessages will not sync across my devices and I keep getting that stupid 'Your iMessages haven't been backed up' error in iMessage on my iPhone. It's annoying as hell. Apple needs to get its act together. I have owned every single iPhone since the 4S and things haven't clicked for a good while. At least my 16" Macbook Pro has been solid. We'll see how long that lasts.

I still love my Apple products but we're getting to a point where for me, I'm thinking about making the switch.

That sucks for sure and I’ve been there. The XS was nothing but problems for me. Worst iPhone IMO but I’m sure plenty of people had no problems at all.

My first iPhone was the 3GS. Currently, I own the iPhone 12 Pro. There have been many iPhones released between these two, the large majority of which I have owned. But the iPhone 12 Pro is the first of the iPhones that have left me completely disappointed. And as I research fixes and work-arounds to cope with the abundance of glitches, I have come to realize that it isn't the iPhone 12, but Apple in general whose quality has been on the decline.

Most recently, I began to research why Siri suddenly began asking me to repeat commands, right after saying "hey Siri". A quick search of the Apple discussion forums showed that over one thousand users had the same problem. And a Google search of the problem showed that this issue wasn't limited to the iPhone. There were people experiencing this issue with the Apple Watch and with Siri on the New MacBook Pro.

When the same problem spans many devices, the common denominator is coding. And this is sad as one of the most appealing things for me about Apple's products over the years has smooth and reliable operation of its devices.

It isn't a coincidence that these issues have become progressively worse since the passing of Steve Jobs. For Steve, the quality of the product was paramount. But since his passing, it seems that Apple's priority is about the bottom line and keeping shareholders happy, rather than the quality of the product.

Steve Jobs must be twisting in his grave.
Not sure why you’re willing to pay that much money for an iPhone and be really upset about it. I would sell/return it right away and get a different phone. Complaining does nothing if you keep buying what you don’t like. ;)

This is the FIRST iPhone I've been unhappy with. And I'm not complaining, I'm DEMANDING better quality out of the box.

Apple CarPlay does not get along when plugged in to my car. I get ratchety performance on my car's touch screen which doesn't return to smooth, fluid operation until the phone is unplugged. There are other times when unplugging the phone alone is not enough and the problem isn't corrected until I shut the car and restart. And when I contact Apple, they blame Toyota. When I call Toyota, they blame Apple. As long as the phone isn't connected to the car, the car is fine.
That sounds like it is a problem with the cars head unit. You can verify this, by trying out your phone on a different car from a different manufacturer. CarPlay is not gear toward any brand of vehicle and it is up to the car manufacture of the vehicle to handle CarPlay properly. I have tried CarPlay on several different brands of cars, Honda, Chevy and Nissan. They all worked to a degree slightly differently. For instance, the time that it takes from the moment I plugged the phone into CarPlay, the head unit will vary in the amount of time before I would see the CarPlay screen. Try connecting your phone to a different brand of vehicle and see if it works correctly.

There are many, and most I just live with. But there are some that are particularly annoying:

1.
My iPhone is set to max volume for all aspects. But when I type, the keyboard clicks slowly get lower until they go silent. When my iPhone rings, it rings max, but by the third ring, it is barely audible. This leads to missed calls.

But the reason this is a big deal for me is because I use an app for glucose monitoring. I recently had an experience where I was being alerted, but the volume dropped all the way down and I wasn't hearing the alerts.

It wasn't until I was experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms that I looked to see my glucose level and saw that I was being alerted, but the volume was down.

It isn't until I reboot the phone that the problem is corrected. And it only lasts until the next time the phone rings.

3.
Also, there is an issue with call dropping. This is the phone, not the carrier. I have used this carrier since my first iPhone (3GS) without issue. In fact, I still have an iPhone 6s that is connected to the same carrier. I can talk on the iPhone 6s until the battery runs out without ever dropping the call. Yet, when I called Apple for support, my call to them dropped twice.

None of these have work-arounds. They are issues that need to be addressed by Apple. Clearly, quality control at Apple is absent as problems such as these should never make it to the end user.
I understand your frustration, you expect your phone to operate in a useful fashion. I would also be frustrated.
What version of iOS are you running on your iPhone 12 Pro?

As an experiment have you tried backing up your phone, and do an Erase All Contents, setup as a new device and see how the phone works as a clean device for #1, #3. It would be easy to restore from a backup after you are done.

Just some thoughts on the issues you are having.

I was hoping that this thread would start some dialog. But it would seem that I have touched a nerve of some product loyalists.

It’s because these threads are repeated ad nauseum, they regurgitate the same tropes (when Steve was in charge blah blah blah) and never add anything new to the conversation. When you have been around a while you’re pretty jaded and fed up with them.

But what do you get for your “demand”? You already gave Apple your money. Why should Apple listen to you when you already gave them your money? :D think about that for a second. Right now, you’ll just end up being grumpy for the rest of your days using that phone you don’t like.

Apple has become really good at using high quality gift wrapping over sub standard components, battery quality being one of the main culprits.

They also seem to be cutting corners on hardware components , motherboards , ic's .....

iPhones are outdated by many standards really. It is why i stick to my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

There is no point of upgrading to a new iPhone, when the new iPhone is outdated by itself.

the new iphones 13 are the best there is...they are the gold standard
The best performer, the best battery life, the best camera,, the best build
Only those who use them knows this
The M macs are also became a gold standard after 4-5 years of Intel and butterfly shame

I often wish I could put IOS on an android phone, for me it’s the main reason I buy an iPhone. Same with MacOS, much better than windows.

Well said. The way some of the posts are worded it is obvious they are just chiming in because they are angry and frustrated, they are going to make sure others are going feel what they are feeling by lashing out. It just sounds like hate and ranting.

I do my part and call Apple Support and open a case for the issues I encounter. Sure there are a few issues I have encountered that annoys me. I don’t start ranting about it on an open forum or start a doom and gloom thread.

So, Steve died in October of 2011. That's five and a half years after the Intel transition. So, for five or more years (Steve was involved in the planning of course) you had Intel Mac product under his purview. With the exception of a few Intel Mac models I defy you to find a model of Intel Mac that matches the build quality of PowerPC Macs.

The iPhone 5, which released in 2011, he was a part of and probably the 5s and 6/6+. In any case, the 5 had Scuffgate.

With the iPhone 4/4s he publicly announced that YOU, the user, were holding the damn phone wrong.

And you're blaming the people after Jobs?
iPhone 5 was released in 2012 NOT 2011, but iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S it’s all the same. And he did NOT announce the 2011 iPhone (which was the iphone 4S). His last iPhone announcement was the iPhone 4, but historical accuracy isn’t why we post. Likes are why we post! Google is free, it’s easy too.

Here is another perfect example:

I completed the update to 15.2.

And now, suddenly, without any explanation, anyone in my contact list that uses an Android phone does not receive any messages that contain a graphic.

This started with the 15.2 update.

I dare you to blame anyone other than Apple for this.

apples priorities have always been to make the most money possible. not to pander to the needs of the 0.0001% of their sales crying on forums.

You are the problem. Your "good enough" attitude is exactly why Apple doesn't care about the quality of their releases.

It doesn't matter that it is only a small percentage of people. I have a right for my phone to perform as advertised.

And I am not crying about it, I am demanding that Apple set the bar higher.

Yes, I am angry. I demand better when I pay $1400 for anything. And if anyone doesn't like what I'm saying, don't comment further.

Is there a phone manufacturer that will let me use their phone and only pay for it when I am happy with it's performance? Think about that...

No, there isn't. So, you have to pay up front. And many of the issues don't pop up within the two week period for returns.
