The earth would stop spinning and wars would break out because people, who could easily go for years without a new phone cant get a new one on launch day. This is being treated world-changing occurrence and that is the real tragedy. Chill - get the phone whenever you can and get your sleep.

Hey... the whole reason I replied to a comment in this thread was because someone asked if it's better to use the app or the website for pre-ordering on launch day.

Why don't you tell them to "chill"

:p

EDIT: Oh look... I'm seeing ship dates of October 18-24 for some models. That's a month away for purchases made today. There must be some demand after all.

That's precisely what I was saying earlier.

I've preordered almost every year, and this is the smoothest I can remember. Woke up I was a few minutes early, then of course they had to finish up... Then I was done. 256 Sierra pro, I was confused that I was already done.

Same here. I thought my eyes were deceiving me! 😂

Yeah... and "demand as usual" tends to mean "ship date slips into October"... :p

I just Googled "iPhone __ ship date slips" and found many articles going back many years. 12, 11, XS, X, etc.

Launch day delays do happen.

Yes... the iPhone 13 isn't radically different than the iPhone 12. But the iPhone 11 wasn't radically different than the iPhone XS... but the 11 still had ship dates slipping until October.

People here are asking the best way to pre-order immediately at launch. I'm sticking with my advice from earlier: don't wait. Get your info updated and be ready. It can't hurt.

The last thing I want is for someone to hear "don't worry" and then they can't get a phone until next month.

:)
Next month is less than 2 weeks away. I haven't heard of anyone dying because he received his brand new iPhone a few weeks after official release. I won't compete with scalpers, youtubers who haven't received a review unit from Apple and random people who feel a weird satisfaction of having the latest iPhone on day one. The iPhone is not that exciting anymore.

This "Apple shtick" is getting old. Building a suspense like it's some kind of a life changing event. It's a damn electronics stuff, get over yourself.
You won't believe how many people, especially young, are killing for the possibility of being able to be the first to post on Instagram or TikTok that they have the new iPhone 13 Pro. The bragging is a competitive sport.

Yep smart phones are slowly (all companies and brands) reaching what I would call a plateau in what is feasible to do with them. I probably would have stayed with my 12 ProMax without the IUP program.

But the return of a hopefully better macro feature (of use to fossil specimen pictures I take that are easier than my DSLR camera and having to setup everything), and the 1TB of ram rumored to be on 12 (but was not) were the only reasons to use the IUP again.

Also I live in an area where the cell signal is weak, I am on the fringe of the AT&T tower, so I often use the Wifi in my house for internet on iphone (and other devices). However as I surmised the better Qualcomm 5G would be on 12 ProMax I was correct, outside of my house and the aluminum walls I went from 1 bar to occassionally two to a more consistent two bar level and even 3 occasionally so the low end 5G and this better modem were good. I am just guessing and the IUP also let me test this when my 13 gets here that the additional modem antenna bands and the new pretty powerful Qualcomm chip might improve my signal even more. i have been happy with the low end 5G on my 12 ProMax and think this will improve.

Now are these life changing features? Probably not but useful to me where I live and use my phone the most. Exciting might not be the word anymore but this time around having the 1TB I had hoped for with the 12 and did not get will be nice. While I use iCloud and the feature to not take space with photos having this memory will let me do better what I also do with my 1TB iPad Pro and the ProMax is sorta like a mini ipad that lets me take use mobile wise.

So improvements now incremental indeed and sometimes the features remind me of classic software that has become bloatware — iTunes before they broke it up or especially the feature over bloated Microsoft suite with word on top that i use barely 1 percent of features from.

And also a very “tribal” behavior of folks wanting to belong to the opening day tribe and socialize on the other thread about when the phones ship, what planes are on, agonize when typhoon strands their phone on Taiwan ;-). People get caught up in the social group of first day folks very easily, it can be fun but it can also be very competitive also as you correctly analyze it.

Well... people were asking the best way to order an iPhone on day one. So that's why I replied in this thread.

Talk to them.

Here's what I saw, though. By the evening of the first day of pre-orders... ship dates for some models already slipped into October. If you ordered on September 17th... Apple says it will arrive October 18th thru 24th.

So for everyone saying "there's no demand" and "the iPhone isn't exciting anymore" clearly someone is ordering them on day one.

:p

Without figures, it is difficult. After all there will be a number who felt they needed an upgrade (failing battery, even cracked screen, etc.) but hung on until the 13 became available. I can understand that - even if just to get a better trade-in next time they upgrade. Hard to separate them out from the "must upgrade" brigade. But agree, there must be demand.

(That is close to where I was last year. When the 12 series launched, I ordered immediately.)
