Hm, why does China have so many Apple stores yet we have none here in Taiwan?

Lots of people here own Apple products and there are a million authorized resellers that mimic the Apple store as closely as they can. A real Apple store would get swarmed if it opened here in Taipei.

Because Taiwan is China ?

I failed to see how does this look, even remotely, good.

Because China is in top 10 Apple user in the world compare to Taiwan which is not listed.

Does Apple charge the same pricing in China? How do these people afford Apple products if the average wage is actually below that of a Foxconn worker...

The average wage in the urban area is high enough to afford Apple products I think. And considering the large population base of China, even a 1% population buy your products would bring you enough profit.

When I was in China in June, I went to an apple store, and the prices were actually higher than they are in the US after conversion.

wow! that's crazy

From what I hear it's a combination of two things. First there are a ton of upper middle class people who can afford Apple products with ease. Second Apple product has become desirable enough that many Chinese save up just to get an Apple product.

that's true about the savings. most chinese don't own cars which saves you a ton of money. while my car is all paid off, insurance + gas = $2,500/yr USD

Maybe less consumerism

I've often wondered that myself. But I might suggest that the Chinese generally purchase less overall. Gluttony is not the national pastime as it is in the US, so they might prioritize what they spend their money on, rather than buying everything they can find and also on credit.

In China, tax has already been included in the price tag, that is why it looks more expensive.

I guess we'll be seeing a video of the opening during Tuesday's announcements.

Sure wish we could get one where I live.

Most of them buy Apple products for its brand. Social status is a big problem in China. You'll be surprised what they are actually using inside their new Macs, Windows!

Within days, this new store will not look spanking clean and new anymore.

This is good for the entire Apple community. I am so proud to be a part of this magnificent store opening!

We really need to get more and more people to buy Apple products so that they too can gain a better life and enhanced self-esteem. People who own Samsung products are just ashamed of themselves for copying everything Apple has ever done. And Android? Those guys steal everyone's identities and sell them to the highest bidder!

But Apple is making the world a better place through innovation. People who own Apple products are changing the world!

Gee....wonder why massive/spectacular stores like this one are not built in the USA?

its the irony of 2 classes. on the one hand u have those privileged enough to go to college and to drink "dom" like its water, on the other hand u have those kids in the slums not even knowing what a pen is

I think they should really switch to mandarin in China.... I don't think that everyone in Beijing can understand, ' The new iPad '

Disguised

That's Browett in the photo. He's disguised as a Apple employee wondering what it is (iPad) he's looking at! He's wondering whether the pillars will be just as good painted. The female Apple employee looking at him is wondering what he would look like after a thousand cuts (maybe she'll be one of them).
