Because Taiwan is China ?

Let me guess, you're Chinese?

Taiwan is it's own country. Maybe you're thinking of Hong Kong.

Also, who over upvoted your post needs to go back to high school geography class. Chinese propaganda states that Taiwan is theirs, but it's not.

=___=

Because China is in top 10 Apple user in the world compare to Taiwan which is not listed.

According to what list? It doesn't matter though, the per capita use of Apple products here in Taipei is huge. I go on the subway every day here and a sizeable chunk of people on their phones have iPhones. The majority of tablets I see are iPads. And when I go to Starbucks here, a good chunk of laptops are Macs. Like I said, there are dozens of Apple reseller stores in Taipei alone. This is a common sight here (and they don't sell counterfeit products like in China):

In China, tax has already been included in the price tag, that is why it looks more expensive.

i moved to shanghai about 4 months ago and i'm back in the states on vacation. one of my goals is to get the new iphone and the new imac, so i've done the price comparison for these items.

even with the (california) tax included, in the end, the iphone and imac here are still about $150 cheaper than in china. i know that all imports are taxed at least 20-30% and as high as 100%, which is crazy when you see the amount of high-end cars on the street.

it sucks how apple products are considered imports (i understand why) when foxconn is domestic.

Kind of sounds like ever other country. You know Rich vs Poor.

actually no one really has to be "poor" here in germany. the welfare is so great that u get more money for doing nothin then to try to find a job in many cases ... *sigh* oh well OT ^^

Apple is preparing to open its third retail store in Beijing this weekend, with the massive new Wangfujung store representing yet another high-profile entry for the company.
The Apple link is Wangfujing?

I failed to see how does this look, even remotely, good.

It's odd how the rectangular tables are angled to fit in the curved room. It looks claustrophobic and sloppy.

I wonder if the curved glass panels in front of the store are practice for Apple's spaceship campus.

Edit: Now I know what that storefront with the giant billboard reminds me of:

I was suprised by the amount of iphones when I went to taiwan. Imessage came into real use :)

Then again, most Taiwanese live with their parents until they get married, so even though salaries are a joke they can all afford iphones.

Should have bought a verizon iphone unlocked and sold it in Taiwan!

Dude, I don't get how you Taiwanese STILL feel you are rich or something compared to mainland Chinese TO-DAY. Taiwan's population is like what..that of Beijing? Get over yourself. It ain't 1982 no more.

Does Apple charge the same pricing in China? How do these people afford Apple products if the average wage is actually below that of a Foxconn worker...

China is completely different from what it is being projected in the outer world... Yes it is true that average wage is actually below that of a Foxconn worker... but another truth is that, it has a massive population and that includes the rich ones and middle class ones.. they come in millions... Apple will be opening more stores in China & HK because the market is HUGE... yes tremendously HUGE...

Right, also most people don't own a car either (though a lot of have scooters). A lot of people are loyal to Taiwanese brands like HTC but the iPhone is the second best selling smartphone here.

They all come factory unlocked here too.

?

All I'm saying is that a real Apple store here is overdue and would perform very well considering the base of Apple users here. Nobody's disputing that there are more multi-millionaires now in China and that Taiwan is not booming like it was, but still. It's disappointing to see Apple focus so much on China and ignore us when the overall quality of life there is lower.

Hong Kong is also China and Apple product are the cheapest in the world there.

Well it is and it isn't. Hong Kong differs hugely from mainland China. As well as being an SAR It's almost completely Tax Free as well.

As it is, you'd need a team of sniffer dogs to try and find a tax in Hong Kong - with no sales tax, no capital gains tax, no VAT and plans in the pipeline to phase out stamp duties, the people are less than enthusiastic about direct taxation. Income tax, or salary tax as it is known, is set at 2% for those earning less than HK$35,000 a year, 8% for HK$35,000-HK$70,000, 14% for HK$70,000-HK$105,000 and 20% for anything exceeding that.

This low level of taxation brings Brits, Aussies and Americans by land, sea, air and camel to escape their native countries' tax regimes, contributing to Hong Kong's internationalism. Similarly, corporate tax, (or profits tax as it is known), is set at the bargain rate of 16% of assessable profits.

All in all, the government gets it hands on very little money through direct taxation. This allows SMEs to flourish and encourages would-be entrepreneurs to throw their hat into the business ring.

Let me tell you a number of facts about China:

1) Apple products are higher priced in China than the US due to high value-added tax.

2) The average wage of Chinese is not below that of Foxconn workers, but very close.

3) China, even with all its 1.3 billion population combined, has a spending power not greater than France with 60 million population. So yes, China is a very poor country.

4) Contrary to what others may tell you, China doesn't have a growing middle class. China has an elite class (those in power, and those close to power) with extremely high net worth and spending power. The rest of the people are all working class people, including most of the white collar people in major cities. With high taxes, little social security, and parents to support (single child), even the white collars cannot be considered middle class by western standard.

Yes!!! Except for iPhones and iPads, Apple products are the cheapest here even cheaper than US...

I dont know about other stores around the world but hong kong compared to my local store in vancouver is cheaper. The difference is pretty much the taxation which is 12%.

wow! that's crazy

----------

that's true about the savings. most chinese don't own cars which saves you a ton of money. while my car is all paid off, insurance + gas = $2,500/yr USD

You can walk or bike to your work everyday and save $2500 a year. That is more than enough for you to buy a new Iphone + accessories every year even at full price

its the irony of 2 classes. on the one hand u have those privileged enough to go to college and to drink "dom" like its water, on the other hand u have those kids in the slums not even knowing what a pen is
implying this is any different in the us.
