Does Angela really believe her own words? Without a cafe experience, people are not going to hang out with their friends at Apple Stores, and she has to know that.

Her Apple Store redesign seems like folly. As a stockholder, I'm getting to the point where I think she needs to be replaced.
Agree - she needed to be replaced a long time ago. Her efforts to turn Apple into a fashion brand look misguided when the reliability, innovation and quality of Apple product is increasingly being challenged by the competition. Apple is so huge now that it will take something more than tinkering with the in-store format to move the financial needles in the desired direction (a kick-arse iPhone 8 on the other hand will - here's hoping)

For what she gets paid I see little to no return on investment.

Right... You don't know what the hell your talking about yet you speak.
She came in AFTER the watch announced, you know the fashion oriented one; now, go away.

Agree, but Angela's masterplan will be around Dongles, WatchBands, TouchBar wipers, and other drudgy gimmickery that create returning customers (except you and me)
Today at Apple: DongleFest! Buy 5, get 1 free, Dongle Subscription schemes, discounts on 10 etc.
It is sad but that's the kind of customer tie-in that makes their brains running
And oh, with Apple devices merely becoming Dongle holders, who would oppose them being refurbed 4 yr old designs today (because there is less opportunity for innovation of course, especially for lamenters)

She's not an engineer, in marketing or involved in any product dev Whatsoever. You're this close from incoherence.

Ahh, Coherence - as per your advice...
So she must be like a tombstone, never looking back in her stores to see how stationary the product catalogue has become and never commissioning with fellow Board Members.
Just waiting to see who else runs AppleStore programming ?
Now I see how derailed things have become.

their espresso beans are usually burnt too far and too bitter tasting. it's not good coffee except if you like piles of sugar and cream.

When I was working in Dubai I met people in Starbucks because of lack of alternatives for better coffee places.

there's no hating in my message. I don't meet there when I'm at home..

I find your reply arrogant and hating, it's too easy.

"Hating"?:confused: over a comment about a coffee shop? Not a chance, and I never "hate" people, that's awful.

I'm generally interested in what you mean by this?
Singapore is clean as compared to the rest of Asia. Cleaned by an army of very lowly paid foreign workers.

Away from the tourist spots you'll see a lot of trash. And the water surrounding Singapore has been sacrificed.

But it is true, a lot of the place does look very well looked after. Easier, I guess, when the island is small and you have basically unlimited funds.

You do know there is more to Apple's brand than just the watch don't you?

Well, if you like hardware that hasn't been updated for years and still priced as if it's new. If that makes you happy about not being dull, uninspiring or lackluster, so be it. I don't think I stated anything about expectations.
Quality...you haven't been here very long. I suggest you go read some threads about product issues. Sorry, your experience is not relevant.....the first Mac is how old?
Sorry I won't post to your next reply as you will be ignored. Have a nice day!
Unecessarily nasty. But that's the typical childish response I expect from Apple haters who troll Apple related sites.

I have visited very recently. The only hardware not updated recently is the MacPro which they've addressed and the Mini which I wish they would. iPad, iPhone, updated recently and leading the industry. iMac - how many 5k PC's do you know of? MacBook Pro range, only 200 odd days ago and due for another. Performance is right up there with anything else. My experience covers since the 70's in PC, Mac, and various mainframes, so I'd wager my experience is very relevant.

But you have a nice day anyway as you ignore my response.

All these comparisons to Starbucks are way off (below) the mark. Apple is in the realm of Pete's, a far superior product, sniff.

"Unlimited funds" ? We pay 140% tax on all cars. That's USD150,000 for a Mercedes C-Class. Our roads are one of the costliest to drive on compared to most of the world. Diesel-engine vehicles are taxed even more. Our pump prices are comparable to many european countries. We pay for healthcare here and premiums are escalating quickly, given that our healthcare industry is mimicking the US more and more each day - defensive medicine. In addition, Singapore has no natural resources. We lack sufficient fresh water to sustain our own population so we've historically imported water from our neighbours over the years, and with those contracts ending within this century, we've started to desalinate sea water and also convert waste water into drinking water. We import basically EVERYTHING we consume. 20% of the country sits on reclaimed land and the government continues to reclaim land every day as our population expands. Our airport is built on reclaimed land! We severely lack free land/space and continue to tear down buildings every 10 years to make them higher each time to accommodate more people. Some of the things we have going for us however are clean, safe streets and an efficient, stable government. Income inequality is increasing I believe, and it's unfortunately become a sad truth of many well-developed nations - and the debate still rages on whether a conservative or labour form of government serves it's nation best.

So no... No unlimited funds lol. We 'pay' for what we 'eat'. Our government has strived to hit a balance between adopting a western and eastern approach in our way of life and so far, we doing ayyyyyttt.

I know the situation in Singapore exactly. I never said the man on the street has unlimited funds, but rather the Singapore Govt, (which, let's be honest, is basically one family and friends).

Yes, Singapore has done a great job at transforming itself, but the reality is that it has come at the expense of the environment.

So it's totally okay if I hang out at my local Apple Store, plop myself in front of a Mac and do my homework for a couple hours? I would love to be able to do that, but would feel super awkward doing so.
Believe it or not, they have never discouraged that. As long as you aren't loading data onto a demo from an external source or viewing offensive content, no one is going to tell you to go away.

I agree with the comments that coffee and Apple products are rather distinct, but there are some things that Apple sells that are as cheap as coffee or cheaper: apps, movies, TV shows, and music. These can be purchased anywhere at any time, so there's no real reason to do so in a store. But if Apple can figure out a way to also increase sales in the iTunes or App stores through it's retail stores they will make a mint. I'm thinking that could be where Ahrendts is going.

With only one store serving the whole of Singapore/S. Malaysia plus assorted tourists, good luck in getting a Genius Bar appointment within a week.

  1. Baby Boomers: born 1946 to 1964
  2. Gen X: born 1965 to 1976
  3. Gen Y (Millennials): born 1977 to 1995
  4. Gen Z (Centennials): born 1996 to 2012
Dates may shift a bit depending who you ask but it's all just marketing speak at the end of the day.

Random reaction made me smile. Something like a 5 year old would say.
