I'm sorry but am I the only one who is sick of hearing those quotes?

In an era of "revolution" it makes sense, but the adage does not apply every time, especially in the context of current Apple products.

The revolution already happened (the Mac, the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad). What we have here now are "mature" products that will not fundamentally change.

I know what I want:

I want multiple user accounts on mobile devices
I want more RAM in sealed/mobile devices, not the bare minimum
I want access to the file system in mobile devices
I want ease of connectivity and compatibility (as in NOT proprietary)
I want to install whichever OS version I prefer (or at least revert to the one that came with my device)
I want portable computers with upgradeable components (RAM, HD)
I want desktop computers with upgradeable components (at least Graphics Cards, RAM, HDs)

Curerntly, Apple does NONE of the above.

I'm all for innovation and revolution, but not at the expense of functionality in the current environment.

One of the most stupidest and unApple comments I have ever seen in my life. You have basically said that you want less of the things that make Apple "Apple".Even you want it, that does not mean everyone wants that. Go and get some android mate....

I agree that some things are wrong but ehm, not in a mood for explaining that.

But does this mean higher definition displays (UHD, 2k, 4k) are not happening for next gen?

Why would you need 2/4K on a phone display? What are the benefits of that at the cost of battery and the fact that it would not provide any improvement other than tech specs?

I don't know why everyone wants to remove the home button. It works flawlessly and is simple to use. Whatever happened to the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

I wouldn't mind being able to put my finger anywhere on the screen (in any direction) and have my phone unlocked and lit. Much easier than pressing the Home buton. That being said, I don't think such functionality means the Home button necessarily needs to go away. It has other uses, same as in iPhone 1,2,3 and 4, like tactile feedback

If you want all that you can look at Android phones and Windows PC.....most of the thing you want are already there my friend, yet you decide to use Apple, which lack what you want and gives you what somebody else thought you would want.....
Guess what? Apparently you decided with free will, and you picked the "i tell you what YOU want" option.

Do you think people in the "revolution" era knew they were in a "revolution" era? One day people will look back and we will be in the "revolution" era, we are living it and we are considering evolutionary step what other will see as truly revolutionary.

Not sure if defending their post or....

In this case, it seems like the reverse of what you're saying. The rendering offers an interesting solution and our narcissistic friend seems to be trying to fit that solution to a potential problem they don't seem to have ...accessing the utilities offered currently in the control center. I think it's less "human nature" and more inability to think beyond oneself and their own needs. i.e. ignorance.
Definitely NOT defending narrow minded people who can only see their problem ;)

Good analogy.

I also too am far too accustomed to the home button, being an iPhone user since the original iPhone.

I think the home button just makes sense. Is it something that adds space to the overall design? sure,

but from a functional point of view, its a very nice feature.

I've used android phones with and without a physical home button. At the end of the day, I have always enjoyed the physical button more than anything on screen. It's a known entity with expected behaviour that operates with some form of tactile response.

Android core moving away from physical home button I think is the wrong direction, and it was one thing on my Nexus 5 that always drove me nuts not having.

Fire away!

With the stronger aluminum, this is possible but will be a pain for cases to avoid covering the screen while protecting the phone. Also, incorporating the fingerprint scanning on that size of a screen is not economic.

Don't see this happening. One reason why the hump is there is all of the shadowing cases we causing on cameras on previous generation phones.

I believe we will see a whole new industrial design that will be as radical of a transition of the like from the 3 to the 4.

This is quite possible. OLED, considering the process, has tricky power control issues when working at high frame rates.

I do not see the name "8" happening. My take is the "7" may not happen either with a new naming scheme starting.

You are the first person I've ever encountered that said the camera hump is a feature. You're right that poorly designed cases may affect the camera, but I don't see that as a good enough reason.

Also, didn't Apple buy some company from Israel that incorporates multiple cameras into one? So multi lens cameras should be coming to the iPhone, the question is when.

Also, I'm not talking about the side bezels, those few millimeters don't matter, I'm talking about the huge bezels on top and bottom. Those can be significantly reduced.

4.) Switch to an OLED display (I bought an LG OLED TV last year and nothing even comes close to it's picture quality).

I really really don't want an OLED screen on the iPhone. You can't use white backgrounds or lots of white space with OLED as the battery dies. LCD is the perfect application for mobile devices unless you really like white text on a black background, which I don't...not even on my watch. I also think it creates un-natural contrast.

If the "rumor" this thread is about, Apple will NOT be using OLED clearly since they are sourcing LCD display drivers for the iPhone 7. Unless those drivers can be used on OLED? Not sure.

Yep, that's why I said non of these things are likely.

Isn't OLED much more energy efficient? Also, it allows for thinner devices, and that's all Jony Ive needs to hear. ;)

Why? Your eyes can't see any more pixels. It'll just waste battery life.
For me, it's not about seeing more or less pixels. I've seen both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus displays and the 6 Plus looks better. If a 1080p display can bring better images, then I'm all for it.

Besides, the A9 is more than adequate to drive a higher-resolution display.

Funny, I think the same thing about your comment.

I would not go about throwing the word "stupid" around when you don't know what you are talking about and cannot even use proper grammar.

Now, Apple used to do ALL the things I mentioned in my post. So what makes Apple "Apple" in your view clearly differs from mine.

By the way, I did get an Android, and will continue to do so, after being "all Apple" for over 13 years.

That does not mean that I don't want what I want from Apple, but if they don't offer it I have no choice in the matter.

Hard to see them ditching the home button to be honest. Wouldn't be the same replacing it with a software version. Especially when apps crash and are unresponsive to any software inputs.
That's my initial thought but there's nothing stopping them from creating a override with the volume buttons in play to kill a crashed app.

reminds me how long I've been waiting for a UI makeover for iOS.
Would love to see a independent/dedicated / customizable home screen or screen(s) with more widget/notification options. The app tile layouts could start on screen #2 or 3 etc. (aside from any ones put on home screen/ screen 1/2..). Tiles need to be able to be more easily arranged / sorted on the fly based on most recent-usage/title/date loaded/memory usage/categories/etc. Would appreciate also being able to save different layouts and toggle between standard sorts and custom sorts. Basically more streamlined and user friendly. On that note...there needs to be an easier way to re-arrange app icons...have a clipboard or something and allow positions to be static...ie. turn off auto re-arrange. Arranging app tiles is kind of a pain.
For whatever reason it's way past time for Apple to seriously refresh iOS UI/navigation. If they are so stuck on the old/classic version then have two options...classic/new. That way Steve can be happy and so can everybody else.

Somehow this concept rendering reminded me of the "widescreen iPod" renderings that were circulating in 2006 prior to Apple's announcement of the first iPhone...

The home button is not going anywhere. The new Apple TV remote with the touchpad is what what I expect to happen to the bottom end home button section for better cursor control and functionality. The home button is far to nice of a feature to get rid of.
Expand upon sounds more like it.

Got ya on the battery life angle but I wonder if extra pixels could allow for subtle shadings that would make graphics really POP out almost like 3D

1. I am aware of all that you add to my post. My intention was simple:

I want all that from Apple.

2. You assume that I "freely" chose Apple. I didn't. I already use Android and have been for over 2 years now. I also have not bought an Apple product made after 2012.Why? Because Apple no longer gave me what I wanted. There was no free will here. Apple just stopped doing what it used to.

3. I know I knew we we're in a revolution era when it happened, every time. You'd have to be dense not to. That was one of the reasons I chose Apple for almost every device they made for 13+ years.

The problem is that in many ways Apple hasn't moved on from the revolutionary period, because being revolutionary requires vision, and Steve Jobs was the one who had it.

Under Steve, Apple products became mature: there was no need to reinvent the wheel. All they needed to do was expand and refine their lineup. Instead, they replace their lineup yearly, while forcing users to give some ability up in the process so they come back next year. It's a @%&ck move. And I'm getting sick of it.

But the issue is, I don't want Windows (yet). I don't want the constant tinkering of Linux (yet).

Apple is really the only game in town (for now).

Like I said on a different thread, Apple is like a really, really HOT girl who gives you just enough to think she will put out, but doesn't.

Then there's this not so hot (or rather homely) girl that seems intent on satisfying you, but you still got the hots for the HOT girl and don't want to miss out if she DOES put out.

But rest assured, the homely girl is working out, and when they're blue enough, you just might tell the HOT girl to go do herself, want be damned.

That, in a nutshell (pun intended) has been my relationship with Apple since around late 2011.

After 4 years, they are changing color.

Henry Ford:
“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”
I know, that quote sounds nice and has a truth to it. But coming from Henry Ford it's like Eric Schmidt talking about how he invented the smartphone.

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said bigger keypads.” - Eric Schmidt
