Finally the small iPad Pro will have a reason to exist. It always felt super silly that only the big one can properly display HDR content.
Bring it!

I'm ready to upgrade my 2017 10.5" iPad Pro next year. I've been holding off specifically for OLED.
And I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 2030 before microLED iPad Pros appear.

So burn-in is a thing of the past?
No, it is not. But it is less of an issue today on devices that don't have their screens on constantly than it was in the past.

For some applications like for desktop and laptop monitors that can stay on sometimes even for days without turning their screens off, it is still a real problem.

I guess Apple considers iPad as one of the devices that might not be affected by burn in.

This is good news for those who are interested in it and/or use their iPads more extensively than I do.
My 9th Generation is exactly what I want as a consumption device and for when I travel.
It also still has a 3.5mm jack where I can plug in my Sony MDR7506 headphones. I much prefer these to any Apple headphone offering. Sadly, my next iPad will likely forego the headphone jack and dongle-life it will be.

OLED is really good for tablets. There's no light shifting (so to speak) at different angles.

This is very noticeable. The Galaxy Tabs have such good screens, its to bad they are ruined by Android LOL.

Man do I dislike Android on a big tablet. And that DeX? a sad hack IMHO. Now if they just did a Windows version....

I hope this doesn't mean they'll add OLED to Macbooks next...
even the best OLED screens get burn in after just a few months, they just get better at hiding it.

I'm perfectly happy with Mini LED until Micro LED arrives.

That being said, I'd be happier if they add more dimming zones to Macbook Mini LEDs.

Same here. And since I also use a mini 6, I’m experienced at enjoying a screen that everyone disparages —which will apparently come in handy when I own an OLED iPad and read MR.

Before you make some snide remark, this is a rather complicated and vague issue for the average person.

I really doubt it would be an issue on an iPad. Unless someone purposely displays a static image on it at full brightness for many hours, all of the default settings are more than enough to protect the screen.

Do we need to worry about burn-in?
Do you worry about burn-in on iPhones with OLED, AppleWatch with OLED, modern TV’s with OLED, modern Displays with OLED, etc if no then you are overreacting to an issue that may or may not be in your use case and we don’t know what mitigation solution Apple has up sleeve. Sit back and relax with a warm beverage of choice 😎

I got the same iPad. I was tempted to get the last update, hover is something I've been waiting since Apple Pencil 1. But it's so expensive. I want the upgrade to be substantial. I want real HDR, or at least individually lit pixels. Then again if 2014 is going to be the last of this form factor, maybe I should wait for 2015 for the new form factor. Man it's not easy being an Apple fan on a budget...
You must be a time traveller or suffering from dementia “2014…2015” amazing 😝

Yes, for modern OLED TVs, burn-in is still sometimes an issue there.

My almost 18month old LG C2 OLED disagrees with your statement and by the time if it does manifests it will be time to upgrade anyhow, so yes to some it’s an overreaction. LG has incorporated options and settings to minimize this as it’s mainly an issue with static images such as network logos, hence commercial breaks lowers the possibility. YOLO 😎

Meh. It's not really that uncommon, and your C2 has a brightness limiter precisely for this reason. If burn-in weren't an issue, then there would be no point to having the brightness limiter.

Yes, if you watch varied content (which is what I do on my LG OLED), it's usually not a problem, but as even you yourself admit, it can be a problem with static screens like game head-up displays, etc. even with current models. Computer screens often have static images for extended periods.

...how many years ago we started romouring about OLED iPads? 6? maybe more...

The sooner the better

My iPad 12.9 with miniLED is great, but blooming is really annoying for such an expensive device devoted to content consuming/video (and other Video/image processing Pro users)

I wanted to buy the 2022 iPad Pro but the upgrade was so minor, I could not justify.. looking forward to the 2024 iPad Pro.

Time to upgrade doesn’t mean ”throw it away”; it usually means move that TV to a bedroom or a game room from its previous center-stage spot. Most of us aren’t going to want to buy a TV that will be incapable of being used in a secondary spot.

heard that EU wants all mobile devices to be water resistant, so if they want to enforce it then prices of all tablets would go up.
no idea who/ how many people are using tablets in shower, this law would benefit them a lot, thanks EU for fighting for customers.

I just want a 15" iPad. It will be perfect to travel with.
Too small! I really want the 12.9 foot iPad Apple previewed at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show …
