Apple's new macOS Mojave update is not compatible with mid-2010 and mid-2012 Mac Pros with stock GPUs, but it is supported on 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models that have been upgraded with graphics cards that support Metal.

Apple today shared a new support document that provides a list of graphics cards that are Metal-capable, which will be useful for 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro owners who want to purchase a new graphics card to upgrade to macOS Mojave.

According to Apple, the following graphics cards are known to be Metal-capable and compatible with macOS Mojave on the mid-2010 and mid-2012 Mac Pro models:

[*]MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 128-bit 4GB GDDR5
[*]SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5
[*]SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition
[*]NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac
[*]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition

Apple also lists other AMD graphics cards that "might" be compatible with macOS Mojave:

[*]AMD Radeon RX 560
[*]AMD Radeon RX 570
[*]AMD Radeon RX 580
[*]AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
[*]AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
[*]AMD Radeon RX Vega 64
[*]AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100
[*]AMD Radeon Frontier Edition

You can check to see if your graphics card is compatible by holding down option while selecting Apple logo to access System Information. Under Graphics/Displays, if "Supported" is listed next to the Metal entry, the graphics card will work with macOS Mojave.

According to Apple, once a Metal-capable graphics card has been installed in a 2010 or 2012 Mac Pro, macOS Mojave can be downloaded and installed after turning off FileVault.

[doublepost=1549563327][/doublepost]My Titan X is supported but still no driver! Sucks

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a flashed Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 (4 gb on the card). It all ran great and I have the benefit of CUDA with the GTX 680 when rendering video in Premiere Pro and After Effects. However, I just upgraded to High Sierra and am now considering Mohave because I have not been able to get my GTX 680 to play nice with High Sierra. There are Nvidia driver issues and I cannot get CUDA back no matter what I try. I am now considering a different card, perhaps this one (?): SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5. With my GTX 680 I am able to run my three 30" Apple Cinema monitors perfectly and of course there is CUDA as mentioned. How might this other card (the Sapphire or other recommendations) compare to the GTX 680 for rendering? I know it will not have "CUDA" but will Metal be the same, better or worse for my purposes with the programs I have mentioned? Obviously I don't have much experience with these things and would be grateful for some guidance. By the way, if anyone has a tried and true way of making this GTX 680 run CUDA with High Sierra or Mohave I'll put you in my will! Great thread!

Maybe just for Metal stuff, I am pretty sure that NVIDIA drivers for High Sierra are available for up to OS X version 10.13.6. Did you mean Mojave?

Yes, I did. Apple has done its best to drive me away so I make semantic mistakes like that because i'm not as current as I once was.

Yes, these are not "mac edition" cards, so no boot screens, which may or may not be an issue (for me it's not). I got an RX 560, worked out of the box, drivers are included in 10.13.6 and Mojave. The 560 is perfect for my needs, doesn't need power, and is very cheap. :)

Morpheo, Would you be so kind as to add a link to the specific RX650 card you purchased? Are you still happy with it? I'm looking to upgrade my mid-2010 mac pro so to be metal-compatible and go past El Capitan as my OS X. Thanks very much.

I see that the SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5 is fully supported. I just bought the same card but in a 4gb size will this affect the metal capability? I'm running Big Sur on a flashed Nvidia GTX 1050. A lot of headaches getting this thing up and working. My problem is that I can not upgrade Logic Pro X past 10.5 as when I do I get no playhead and some plugins will not work without the metal support. I bought this card http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p1...d_8GB_Sapphire_Pulse_for_Mac_Pro_4,1/5,1.html

and am wondering if the 4gb will work because apple doesn't "Officially" support it.
