Well well... I suppose that won’t be misused .... can’t wait for all the bogus photos of various people with Trump And so on.
I tried to get one with Trump using this tech (you know, since I totally have his phone number)... ugh, but he turned down down my invitation!!!
Who are the people you know with Trump’s phone number, that actually will get him to accept their invitation for a group selfie? Also, how would that be a “bogus” photo, if he did accept?

it would be nice to have a wide angle selfie lens for those that actually live in a reality beyond their digital lives

Generally, patents really don’t mean we will ever see this feature, just like lots of hardware designs/concepts blueprinted. But this does seem very Apple-ish to develop, which I think is actually fairly unique.

I don't think Apple should put their focus on creating fakes. What's next, choose face from photo, then choose voice sample, then enter text you want the person to say?

when technology and innovation is all about "the selfie"...

(rollseyes)
Apple, being Apple, seems to like putting their tech into something fun, since that's what Jobs had intended (computer for mere mortals, remember those sayings?)

For example, Apple used Photo Booth, a seemingly silly app, to showcase the Ax chip's GPU power. Then Animoji, a seemingly silly thing, to showcase the FaceID tech and that you have a motion capture in real time on your phone (something that requires a different set of tools in movie making). Same thing with computational Machine Learning and the Ax ISP prowess, and Apple showcase it via Portrait mode, something that seems silly. That's also how you get people to get used to the tech.

This is probably continuation of the machine learning and AR capability that Apple is developing. This is the simple application, but imagine being able to render real remote objects in real time into the same environment as you. That's quite sci-fi if you think about it.

I don’t think this is great innovation! Everyone may have different types of devices, cameras, lighting conditions and I am not sure how the quality of the final image will be! Already ZOOM sort of video conferencing tools are more suitable for the current scenario.

"Apple has won a new patent that would allow for <X> Should this software be successfully developed..."
It bothers me that you can patent software you haven't actually written yet.

Idk. I put this in the Animoji category. Pretty cool use of tech, but a gimmick that nobody will use after a couple weeks.

I have a feeling that if might get a bunch of use right now with all of the social distancing....especially when the 2nd wave comes.

The future is now! Soon every American home will integrate their television, phone and computer. You'll be able to visit the Louvre on one channel, or watch female wrestling on another. You can do your shopping at home, or play "Mortal Kombat" with a friend from Vietnam. There's no end to the possibilities!

I guess this is kinda cool. I haven’t taken a selfie in ages. I wouldn’t use the feature. Not for me.
I might use this since it's a group. I don't really like to take selfies either. And I've never understood why they are still called selfies with more than one person.

Plus the other two mentioned about alibis for mates and police.

Yes need to get to the BTTF II TV wall already.

THANK YOU! That's exactly what it should be called with more than one person!!!

They already do that with some furniture stores. You can AR the furniture into the room to see how it will fit and look.

Yea once you get a good enough voice profile, you could just text, but it would Facetime them with a fake face.

The one good thing about all the faking is maybe looks won't matter as much anymore since no one will know what is real.

Definition of patent troll since the idea is borrowed from snapshot of video conference.

Those current ones, you are inserting a pre-made 3D object.

On this one, it seems that you are inserting a real-life object (your friend) in real time into your environment. And it said it would do a video/live stream, and you can move your positions, so it is doing everything in real time, from capturing into rendering and 3D positioning.

Still sounds amazing to me. :)

This sounds great !!

Me with the boys at the bar .

Wife : where are you ?
Me : at my brother’s house
Wife : send me a picture with your brother
Me : Brother I need your help , accept the invite .
Funny. But TBH, if you have given over this much power to your wife, then you need to have a good hard look at yourself in the mirror. Saying "no" to a woman is an extraordinarily powerful thing, and makes her respect and lust after you immensely. When you say "yes" all the time, she completely loses respect for you, won't want to get intimate with you, will walk all over you at every opportunity, and will resent you for letting her do so.

What's the camera for then ? This sounds good, but doing it virtually is not the same other than giving a 'cool' factor to it.

"We've allowed users to invite just about everything else, we may as well do this too"

Apple's destroying this.. Now the excuse will be 'Why would we meet up with you?, just send me an invite for group selfies"

The idea of using it only for "long distance" physically won't even fly... If when it's there, people will find a way even if their local.
