I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay 200k for a Kia. They make quality cars and all, but when I'm paying 200k for a car, it's more about brand than it is quality.
Things in that price range usually means, built by hand, usually you are getting quality as well, not just brand. Only Apple would charge that much for a Kia...and get away with it.

Some leaked, and it wasn’t Apple. So, the discussions stop. Classic Apple playbook.
Or maybe Apple leaked to get a better deal from other car companies...?

It wasn't too long ago I was seeing a lot of scoffing at the notion of Kia/Hyundai making the Apple Car, maybe that wasn't too far off...

Ok....Lexus.

Remember they were originally talking with Hyundai....and even KIA.
If Apple was close to closing a deal with those 2, I seriously doubt they did so with any concerns about quality. They hired quite a few automotive experts who are all highly paid and study which manufacturer builds quality vehicles. Is it so shocking to you that they determined that Hyundai and Kia were the best choice?

There are plenty of rebranded parts in expensive cars, or sharing.
Do you really think that if Kia is working with Apple that quality is low.
Apple works mostly with Chinese manufacturers, Chinese make crap but also make high quality stuff.

I think it is way too early to be focused on price manipulation. I don't think the car is anywhere close to production at this point.
I mean manipulation on TSLA, not AAPL. TSLA still has a much higher short interest than AAPL, so it wouldn't surprise me that hedge funds are putting out FUD and Apple car news to stop TSLA price momentum.

Apple seems to be going for "upper mass market" with these vehicles, which is Model 3 territory if you're talking Tesla. It would also be in line with the A or C Class Mercedes-Benz, 3 Series BMW, or even upper end "normal brands" such as Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Sonata, Nissan Maxima, etc.

If you read the previous articles, it doesn't look like it'll be S-Class Mercedes, or Tesla Model S territory.

I'm not talking about quality. Kia is good, but it's not a car I would drive to pick up girls.

I may catch some flak over this but Apple should buy Volvo from Geely. The interiors of Volvo has a minimalist look and they focus hard on safety.

Now make the lineup fully electric (which Volvo is trying anyways) and put some Apple touches and you might have a winner.

I have a vehicle in that range and I don't think it was built by hand (more than one if we consider within $50k being in that range and none were built by hand as far as I know). Double that and I can think of vehicles that were hand built (or at least assembled).

As I said before, there's a lot of sharing in between car manufacturers, you sometimes see the base of a standard car shared with a luxury car, I do not have any examples here but I do know it as a fact.

Got one, IIRC the key fob of a Aston Martin is from Volvo, peel away the outer shell and it reveals the Volvo part.
Now, Volvo isn't really a cheap car but quite a bit cheaper than an Aston Martin.

Huh. I thought girls like Teslas more than even Bugattis or Rolls Royce. Girls go crazy about Tesla, because it's "hip" and "cool".
Probably because they have saturated the market now, like iPhones, Macs, etc. A Bugatti on the other hand, would probably work....but it would still be me behind the wheel, so probably not :p.

Doubt it. Bargaining would happen behind closed doors in conference rooms.

I think I'm one of the few here who isn't surprised by Apple using Hyundai/Kia. A lot of people here like brands more than the actual product.

Why would Tesla agree to that? Tesla wants to control the entire development and production of their vehicles. There is no reason for Tesla to share profits with anyone else now that they're going 200 miles/hour and look unstoppable.

Not buying Tesla back in 2018/2019 is going to be Apple's biggest mistake.
Why? for all the bluster, Tesla makes no money selling actual cars...

Apple wants a profitable manufacturing pipeline to put 30% profit margins on - Tesla does not have that.

Also those new Hyundais with the widescreen look amazing to be honest. I would consider trading in my Mercedes for one if they didn't offer below the balance of what I am still paying for.

Pausing? More like business as usual.

Did anyone think such a decision would happen just like that?

The past couple of weeks, you had people pumping the stock sending out news it was 100% going to be Hyundai. Of course it doesn't work that way. You have a vehicle that is realistically coming out 2027 or later. Apple is indeed having negotiations, but with all vendors. Apple isn't going to lock in just like that today.

Almost all of Tesla's profits go back into capex and R&D. I wouldn't look so much at net income to determine a grwoth company's value. You have to look at free cash flow.

Hyundai's announcement and other detailed rumors about Apple's negotiations with the automaker have upset Apple.
Rightfully so! This could be a huge mic drop for Apple, so if things are leaking this bad at preliminary talks imagine how bad it would be once the train gains momentum
