Doubt it. Bargaining would happen behind closed doors in conference rooms.

I think I'm one of the few here who isn't surprised by Apple using Hyundai/Kia. A lot of people here like brands more than the actual product.
Fair enough. That's how I always thought it happened with NFL players too, until I realized it wasn't. It's all about leverage, and the media can help to amplify that leverage.

And before someone says ~"Apple is so successful they don't need to do that" just remember two things:
  1. Apple is competition to all car makers, so they're probably not head-over-heels to partner with their future competition/cut them a good deal. [Especially if Apple plans to eventually bring everything in-house and/or shake things up like the OG iPhone/AT&T deal.]
  2. Apple is extremely successful, but they didn't get there by giving up their leverage, whether that be in business deals or even consumer mindshare.

This is why I think everyone except Tesla is screwed. Robotaxis are going to contract new auto sales market considerably.

I'm also not sure why that person thinks expertise in ICE manufacturing is equivalent to expertise in EV manufacturing. They're completely different things.
The Robotaxi stuff we'll have to see what happens with that as Elon threw out an over ambitious timeline and was expected by end of 2020. But FSD does look to be getting a bit more serious now so things could accelerate quickly on that front but I don't see Robotaxis coming out this year either.

Regarding manufacturing, I can imagine Toyota do a good job on the manufacturing side of things . Though I don't see it coming close to performance of any Tesla currently out now.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay 200k for a Kia. They make quality cars and all, but when I'm paying 200k for a car, it's more about brand than it is quality.
LMAO! When I am paying $200k for a car quality is #1. If brand is #1 to you then you just want a status figure to make yourself look good. That's senseless. I hope you realize high-end brands like Tesla have had recalls so if brand is more important to you than quality then see ya as I pass you on the road with your hood up on that $200k dead weight.

I'm honestly not sure how going to the media and saying WE'RE USING KIA is more effective than telling your supplier you're going to use Kia. I would think Apple prefers the 2nd approach, as it keeps things under wraps.

Apple should look at Mazda. They make vehicles with quality interiors and they handle well. Hyundai/Kia improved the looks of their vehicles but their suspension/steering is below many other manufacturers

On Monday Kia and Hyundai are required to disclose on "rumor" so they stopped this negotiation

This is not about luxury brand stuff. There just is no better EV platform than Hyundai's. Apple will sign with Hyundai/Kia. i am quite confident.

They will probably delay signing until Apple event in March. Otherwise they are required to disclose due to exchange laws

I, too, thought robotaxis wouldn't come soon, but seeing FSD improving massively since it released late last year has been incredible. I truly think FSD is coming sooner than people think. Robotaxis may get held up by regulators dragging their feet, but the market will 100% price in robotaxis once Tesla proves they solved FSD. It doesn't matter if it takes regulators 10 or 20 years to approve robotaxis; the market is forward-looking and will front-run the future value of a robotaxi network.

I don't understand why people think a deal centering around the Kia plant means that the car will be Kia quality. Foxconn factories make all sorts of products at a wide range of quality levels. Additionally, Genesis cars are well reviewed and serve the lower end of the luxury car market well. Hyundai is more than capable of making premium vehicles. Besides, wasn't the deal being discussed primarily for manufacturing with Apple handling design?

Let me guess Hyunda/Kia more money and Apple wants EVERYTHING Apple’s way..I mean even the smallest minor detail😆

Seems Apple's team of automotive experts disagree with you and believe Hyundai/Kia is the best choice.

As I have stated before, we wont see any Apple Car before 2035.

Will probably be too late for that. The only people buying cars or other automobiles will be rich people, truckers, people who need a pick-up truck or w/e.

Everyone else will just use the Tesla Network robotaxi.
Auto sales will plummet from 80-90 million today to 5-15 million. Economies of scale will turn into diseconomies of scale, and a vanilla car may cost you $200k.

The design has to conform to Hyundai/Kia's manufacturing process. You really can't diverge much from the reference designs from the manufacturer. Tesla tried doing that, and the suppliers told them to go away.

No way. Rumor is Apple wants something comparable to a Tesla. Apple is a luxury brand.
Lexus is just a Toyota with different badging.

Wouldn't the end result be a Kia that costs more than a Mercedes?
Maybe, but a Kia or especially a Hyundai Apple Car would mostly likely be much more reliable than anything Mercedes offers.

Ever wonder why Mercedes has such horrible resale value compared to other brands? Definitely not Apple-like.

Why do you think that any other car built by Hyundai would appear to be more reliable than a Mercedes? What would it be so different in the production process to make it such different than a current Hyundai?

Kia is a vastly superior machine, Ashley Schafer says so:

Yes, the e-GMP platform is pretty impressive.

Loose lips sink ships.

Although I do wonder if someone at Hyundai opposed to an Apple deal leaked the original news in hope Apple would pull out.

This wouldn’t be a surprising monkey-wrenching or face saving move.
