So dumb. Should not be made to stop selling them. Everyone is always after the successful companies. If Masimo was a successful company, they would be a household name and would be selling out of their products. Hmm..

Guess the value of the newest AW’s will go up in the used market if this stop sales lasts a long time though.
Masimo is a major player with medical devices: https://www.masimo.com/healthcare/

I've used some of their products for my research (but have no affiliation with the company -- they just had the products we needed).

They also happen to have a consumer audio division and own various brands including Bowers&Wilkins, Denon, Polk, Marantz, and more: https://www.masimo.com/consumer-audio/

They are far from a nobody company and produce widely used products.

Who is the CEO of the Masimo? Joe Kiani right?

Then let’s review this news headline again from NY post: “Hunter Biden hides away at major Dem donor Joe Kiani’s $50 million vineyard during probes.”
Not sure what your point here is, but if you're trying to imply a bias for Kiani... Apple is also a major Dem donor. More than Kiani I'd wager.

Clearly donations don't matter much, so your implication is meritless.

Actually, smart to pre-announce this if they have inventory left. People on the fence will rush to getting one this week.
At this stage of the game if you’re still on the fence when it comes to buying the Series 9, the wiser move would be to wait for the redesigned Series 10. By the time production of that all-new Apple Watch begins, Apple will have cut a really nice check to Masimo.

Wow.
Well, jumped on eBay...and nope, not shocked!

That consumer audio division info is an interesting wrinkle. So Apple is a direct competitor of theirs. Suddenly, Masimo’s very broad claims are making a whole lot more sense (it’s an attack on a direct competitor).

In all honestly, I kinda hate overly broad firms like that that have their fingers in a bunch of everything (Unilever comes to mind as another one). With Apple or even Meta or Google, you at least have an intuitive understanding of what markets they’re in (and how to boycott them, if so inclined). (And side projects are usually directly connected to these major markets.)

Yeah, they’re not the patent troll with absolutely no products currently in their portfolio some here are making them out to be. So it would probably be in Apple’s best interest to cut them a check. Unless Apple wants to buy them outright and start selling medical devices and consumer audio products under those well-known names. I owned a Denon product once myself.

Does Apple really communicate with (rumor)websites?
A site like 9to5mac or MacRumors is a legitimate tech news site, since they report on ongoing events and not just rumors or supply chain news. In that sense, they’re no different than CNet or any other press outlet, and Apple would definitely respond to requests for comments on stories like this (unless the site deliberately aggravated Apple like Gizmodo did back in the day).

Maybe later on apple would have to build an independent state full of lawyers as citizens and issue passports so that they can protect every last bit of patent they have.

It's going to be like Snow Crash with corporate states. No more passports or visas, just license agreements.

Would not be surprised if Apple attempts to takes this to SCOTUS in some way.

Also would not be surprised if this could be last Apple Watch released globally for foreseeable future as the case continues to go through courts.

Patent trolls at it again.
Masimo isn’t what I would call a patent troll. They do sell medical devices as well as consumer audio products. In the past, true patent trolls were and should continue to be companies that only have hastily put together patents in their portfolio and not a company with legit patents based on development and products currently being sold to consumers to back them up.

Yep. Some people will label any company that sues Apple a "patent troll". While sometimes it is right, this time it is not.

I really had no idea! Thanks for elaborating (sp?) on this.

Peace
