I seriously don't understand people who own a touch ID equipped phone and don't use it. I am not being rude or anything I really do not understand it, it is a terrific feature that lets me have security but also the convenience to never have to swipe to unlock again. I get into my phone way faster than swiping and I have to re scan maybe 1 out of 20-25 times.

My fingertips are pretty well chewed up after 48 years.

I work construction, and have for years. Because of this, my prints are pretty messed up. Its just not reliable enough for me to use. It only works maybe 3/10 times. It was the same way on my 5S.

I have a 6, and I used Touch ID for the first week or two, but got frustrated with it. It's great when it works, but having it fail ~20% of the time just got so annoying that I switched back to the same old method that I used with my 4S.

In my case, touch iD just won't work sometimes. If I'm out walking in the heat and my hand gets even a little sweaty or oily, it doesn't work at all. I went to apple with this issue and they had no idea. I tried with other phones and some of them wouldn't even let me set up touch ID because they couldn't read my fingers.

Thanks for the responses I can understand that there are obviously exceptions where it just won't work. I guess really the ones I don't understand are the ones that haven't even tried it and just don't want to set it up, or ones who tried it very briefly and somehow decided it wasn't good.

For me I get the try again message so infrequently that I honestly don't even keep track of it anymore.

I would love to use it. I think its a way cool feature. When I got my 6, I was hoping it would be more reliable for me, but no luck.

Paying with ApplePay earlier today was kinda cool. Makes spending money fun!

Is it just me, or does anyone else which you could use Apple Pay without having to lock your entire phone. Why can't Apple just secure that part? I hate having to lock my entire phone just to be able to use Apple Pay. I'd like to be able to do other things, phone calls, email, web without having to unlock my phone with TouchID or a passcode every time.

The best that I've found is that you can use Apple Pay, but it will still require a passcode to unlock your phone if it is locked for over an hour.

Go to Settings
>> Touch ID & Passcode
>> Use Touch ID For:
Turn OFF all three options ("iPhone Unlock", "Apple Pay", "iTunes & Apple Store")
>> Require Passcode
You should have the option to change it from "Immediately" to "After 1 hour" or options of less time
>> Use Touch ID For:
Only turn ON "Apple Pay" and "iTunes & Apple Store"
- If you accidentally turn on "iPhone Unlock", it will automatically switch the Require Passcode back to "Immediately"

For whatever reason, if you have the Touch ID on for iPhone Unlock, it forces you to immediately require a passcode. I'm the same way as you, not liking to unlock my phone every time I want to open it, so this was my next best option to still use Apple Pay. This forum is about a year old, but I hope it helps someone!

I do get annoyed having to use it every time I want to interact with a notification on the lock screen.
