I had the exact same issue this past weekend. The second try worked for me too.

Home Depot normally works, but didn't work for me today. It didn't with my phone either. On the way home after, I thought of this thread, and stopped at McD's to get a Coke. It dinged like it worked, but the cashier said it didn't go through. We started the transaction over, and it worked the 2nd time.

Maybe there's something up with Pay in general? It worked, but 1 of 3 times that I tried it today.

Bastards! It seems that is the trend more-so than starting to use NFC.
I fear Apple Pay sputter out… Hope I'm wrong, but it seems like that's coming.

I think HD is one of those CurrentC consortium members.

I'm guessing it won't last long. Like Best Buy did, they'll move to Apple Pay when it begins to impact their bottom line.

Has worked for me.

Other than the 1st time I tried to use it and the employee looked at me like I had a penis growing out of my forehead.

Monday I got the response..."okay...James Bond..."

I tried using my Apple Watch at McDonald's today. This is my first use since the update (pre update Apple Pay with watch worked fine). Anyone else have a problem with this?

Ugh McDonald's. Stopped there only once this year. They screwed up the order and it was cold and tasted terrible. Rather just fast.

It worked well for me many times before yesterday. I thought for sure they weren't part of the evil CurrentC idiots. :)

My local McDonald's only has one working NFC terminal. They used to have two, but one of them stopped working a couple months ago*. It's possible they just need to service/replace their hardware.

*Which I discovered AFTER attempting to make a purchase, since the fine folks at Mickey-D's don't think it's necessary to alert customers to non-functioning equipment. I ended up trying the next terminal over on my next visit, which worked fine. Then I forgot about the broken one, and when it still didn't work two months after I discovered it had stopped working, I made a point of having them ring me up on the other terminal instead of just saying, "Fine, I'll use the actual card." A minor inconvenience to me, to be sure, but I think it's BS that they advertise a payment method and then do nothing to support it or keep their equipment fully functional ...

Only temporarily while they do equipment upgrades, they are coming on board as an official Apple Pay location.

This is correct. They did not officially offer contactless payments prior to their recent update although it did work. (mostly) I was not able to use a Mastercard credit card but Visa worked. They sent an official notice out saying the service will be back soon, sorry for the inconvenience.

I think by the end of this year all US retailers must be "chip" ready of risk paying for the fraud themselves. I can not see NFC going away unless they are having a problem and that should be fixed.

Unfortunately for US citizens who travel abroad, most US banks are going chip-and-sig rather than chip-and-pin. It's stupid, but that's what we're stuck with. Almost everywhere I go still makes me sign for Apple Pay, and I don't see that going away. It'd be better if I could at least use a pin.

We are lucky we got what they have now as the banks resisted for years to do anything. It was only after the huge breaches at Target and other retailers that they relented.

I would have thought, though, that if they were going to make a change, the could at least make a change to an international standard. It especially makes no sense for banks with an international presence. This insistence on signatures, which have repeatedly been proven as NOT secure, is a bit ridiculous.
