Here's How Goofy Apple Pay Looks At A McDonald's Drive-Thru

McDonald's, for example, uses a machine that can accept payment from traditional credit cards. But at the top of the machine is an NFC sensor that can wirelessly read the chip nestled inside some more modern credit cards.

Apple Pay with the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch will "talk" to this same NFC sensor, but that could pose a problem for fast-food locations like McDonald's, where the terminals usually rest inside the drive-thru window next to the cash register.

It wouldn't be goofy is she would use her thumb to register the Touch ID with the same hand she is holding the phone.

Like Steve Job said, "You're holding it wrong"

I am sure this system is in the interrim until the get outdoor kiosks. But the real question is, how does how you LOOK ordering really matter? If you are willing to shop at McDonald's, I am guessing you probably couldn't care less.

Hahahaha.. I was thinking about this earlier today... how will they do it so 100's of people don't drop their phones on the ground outside their car? :D

Just thinking of sticking my phone out the car window while trying to hit TouchID makes me wonder how this is going to work.

:apple:

The real question is who is this person using an iPhone 6 in a McDonald's Drive-Thru in the United States and what's her order status on AT&T/VZW/T-Mobile?:)

I was under the impression that McD's would be installing new POS terminals in their drive-thru? It would be silly to require a McD's employee to physically hold a terminal out the window... I hope this was just a joke?

Apple Pay would be very convenient at drive-thru windows if all you had to do is touch your phone to a terminal that was actually housed outside of the window (easily reachable through the window of your car). I hate having to give my credit card to drive-thru employees.

But yeah, I try to avoid McDonald's as well. But there are plenty of other drive-thru locations I would like to use Apple Pay at.

I was thinking the OP was referring to the clerk holding the entire credit card terminal out the window for the patron...

Like Business Insider has a clue. How many different source articles did they scrape for this?

Americans should NOT be eating McDonalds. PERIOD. Need I say more?

Notice how very few people cheered at the keynote when they said mc Donald's? That food is junk and no one should eat it.

I've probably had it 2 times in the last 9 years. So glad we have our kids on a healthy path and never got them into that mess

Bro I'm 9% body fat, if I want to eat a large double quarter pounder then by God I'm going to....in fact I think thats dinner tonight!

Fat isn't the greatest reason McDonald's is looked at as an issue. I know nothing about you. You may eat incredibly healthily. American's, as a whole, do not. Nor do they get enough exercise. Enjoy your quarter pounder though. You are not the average American, clearly.

Are we sure McD's is getting Apple Pay? I know a few major retailers are already opting out, like Best Buy and WalMart.

Based on the Apple keynote, yes.

Once WalMart and Best Buy see the light, they will also accept this payment. I am not worried. It WILL be huge.

My MCDs has a terminal outside drivthru bolted to the outside wall to hold up your phone to
