Fat isn't the greatest reason McDonald's is looked at as an issue. I know nothing about you. You may eat incredibly healthily. American's, as a whole, do not. Nor do they get enough exercise. Enjoy your quarter pounder though. You are not the average American, clearly.

This is why it's best to reserve comments that stereotype groups as a whole. Bet if someone had made a comment targeting a specific ethnic group, they'd be slaughtered. But target a nationality, and it's A-OK!

Example: Ethnic group XXX sure doesn't need to eat anymore XXX!
Result: Flame fest

Example 2: Americans sure don't need to eat anymore McDonalds!
Result: Laughter and nods of agreement

I worded that wrong, I wish the average American was more in shape like I currently am, so what I am right now would be considered normal so people would have a better view of us worldwide (at least when it comes to health). And fortunately even if I wanted to do all that I couldn't Army wouldn't be very happy about it at all!

Not sure if you are aware, but the problem very much is worldwide in wealthy developed countries (and some not so much).

Mexico surpassed us in Obesity
Australia and the UK are right on our tails. And those are just stats I remember off the top of my head.

It's a great deal of fun to poke fun at American weights (even as an American), but it's, unfortunately, not an American thing. It has to do with a sedentry lifestyle. More and more countries are reverting to desk jobs from any form of manual labor. Couple that with poor eating habits (and McDonald's/fast food is far from the big issue here) and we have the epidemic we are currently dealing with.

EDIT: Added this quick chart I found. While I haven't vetted the source, the numbers are alined with what I have read on WHO, at least in terms of ranking.

screw that place. i'm waiting for Whataburger to get Apple Pay.

TEXAS! > *

Most the ones I have walked into in the past year have the same terminal that looks exactly like the one in the photo. It's similar to one that either CVS or Walgreens has with the NFC-enabled hardware. So yeah, most of these stores will already support it.

I can't imagine this is what McDonald's does most of the time. This looks completely stupid. I would imagine it would be a different device developed for a drive-thru. I'm hoping Starbucks does something like that.

On a side note, when at Target today I noticed that their new systems are made for chip and pin cards and don't seem to have any NFC features. That sucks because Target JUST replaced all of these POS terminals this year, meaning it's highly unlikely they would be changed again so soon.

Target announced (based on the keybote) that they would support this. EIther the feature is built in (and simply not notated on the kiosk) or they're going to bite the bullet and swap it out again. I would suspect the former... I don;t believe there is any legal necessity to notate on the machine that it is NFC capable.

LOL. You are spot on here, I think. The funny thing is it's not even America at the worst of it anymore (as noted in a different post of mine).

----------

The ones in Arizona already has NFC, so yes Apple Pay there too for me.

Not saying they won't get it, but I don;t believe the fact that it has NFC necessarily means it will be compatible with :apple: Pay. In fact, I am saying that we will absolutely see places that have NFC terminals that don't (at least for a while) support :apple: Pay. WalMart is one such example (they announced they will not be using Apple's solution).

All Apple Pay is, is an NFC solution for the iPhone. Absolutely nothing has to be done on the register side of things, short of having the capability to take existing contact less credit cards., which I have from Wells Fargo currently, so I can confirm these readers work.

During the keynote with the exception of a few stores, all the stores announced in the keynote has had contact less payments for a decade.

Stores that weren't mentioned, like CVS, or my local car repair guy, you already can use GW at with no issues, and Apple Pay at these stores shouldn't be an issue either. Apple wouldn't mention Basha's but they have NFC as well, simply because people outside of Arizona don't even know what Basha's is.

NFC = yes on Apple Pay. Just look for the PayPass logo, or the contact less card sign. Some terminals (Basha's, and Whole Foods) don't say anything at all, just tap to the screen and it'll work anyway. (Tested with WF credit card), both of these stores use Verifone Mx915. The screen will just say Slide Card. Tap anyway, and it changes to Processing, then approved. Works like a charm for me every time.

Only place it hasn't worked for me was the Worst Buy...ahem Best Buy

SO then why did it not work at Best Buy?

I realize NFC is NFC. But my understanding is the store needs to accept the form of NFC payment; in this case Apple Pay. Just like a credit card reader is a credit card reader, it doesn't mean they accept all credit cards. Amex is (or used to be) one of the ones many didn't accept. Nothing truly unique about reading a Visa, Versus Mastercard, versus [insert credit card here].

I'm really not to worried about it, but I appreciate your concern for my health!

....because you are superhuman with your 9% body fat? Somehow man made fats (trans fat), can somehow be broken down within your body but the other human bodies on the planet can not?

Never said that, but I lead a very healthy lifestyle so I'm not to concerned with my future health as long as I maintain my ways.

Best Buy turned it off because they are lame. Apple Pay will use the regular Visa and MasterCard networks, so no issue for the store/register. Existing contactless card terminals need nothing extra whether programming or otherwise. It'll literally in the Apple sense "just work"

But I am saying that, just like best Buy, they have the right not to accept any such transfer. Would that not mean that it doesn't work in the programming sense?

But I see where you are coming from. If they accept NFC, they accept Apple pay?

Yes, if they accept NFC, you can use Apple Pay. If they normally accept NFC, but refuse your Apple Pay you can call 1-800-VISA911 or 1-800-MASTERC, and they will let them know that the merchant is breaking their merchant agreement. If they take NFC, they're required to accept it in all forms. They can't mandate no smartphone payments unless they don't have NFC altogether
