you know you can change your bank if you wish?
You're funny.
Just to get Apple Pay? :D
Not a chance.
I stay with the benefits I receive from my bank.
Apple (Pay) give me absolutely NO extra benefits as a longterm customer.

It’s no more problem to take out my card (s) then my phone.
Don’t understand the hype with ApplePay.
Maybe some convenience if you have AW. But I don’t, and have no plans to get it either.

Not all debit cards use the same technology.
A regular Visa card can be credit or debit card. But there's also V-Pay and Maestro. And German banks push their own system (which consequently is the most common in Germany) called Girocard (or specifically Girogo for contactless)

iOS only supports EMV credit cards (even if they really are debit cards). iOS 12 will add support for V-Pay, Maestro and Visa Electron.

Support for Girocard is rumored to be a negotiating point between Apple and the Banks, as are distribution of fees.

Apple just needs to launch in Germany and then add functions and banks. Banks who are first mover Apple Pay offerers need to help interested clients make jump from old institutions.

This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Or as Germans say, every journey begins with a single step.

Time to put one foot before the other Apple.

That’s fantastic news, thanks!

It makes complete sense that Apple would want to hold back on support in Germany until EC/Maestro card support was there. I think roughly only a third of Germans have CCs, whereas everyone with a bank account will have an EC.

I suspect there are similar situations in the Netherlands and Belgium, which could explain the lack of rollout there too.

Fingers crossed for next year then (not holding my breath for this year as the roadmap was already announced https://www.macrumors.com/2018/05/01/apple-pay-norway-poland-ukraine/)

Customers of one of the largest banks in Norway (DNB) infuriated by the banks decision to abandon Apple Pay. Users are raging against the bank on their Facebook page, accusing the bank of monopolizing the marked with their own Vipps solution.

I also disagree that "We are satisfied with credit cards and contactless cards"
As of today Vipps is useless for paying in-store, with the proprietary bluetooth connection very few terminals support.
Apple Pay works everywhere contactless cards are supported.
A few weeks ago I opened an account + card in Nordea as I wanted Apple Pay on day 1 in Norway, and I seriously consider to switch bank to Nordea.
