I hope that the adoption rate will be strong in Singapore.

While Singapore has NFC payment for years, adoption rate by retailers are poor, most of the cashiers has no idea how to use it and will choose to use the old terminal.

I disagree, quite often when you hand over your card the cashier will reach over the till and place your card on the contactless unit. In fact you now seem to have more issues if your card isn't Paywave enabled as they will try the contactless a couple of times before understanding that it won't work.

Nearly every store here, excluding 7-11, has contactless terminals and it's much more prevalent than the UK

Agree. Almost all chain stores accept paywave. It's the single store that usually only does NETS and not visa, which means no paywave.

However many of the elderly here do not like cashless transaction. Apple Pay is really late to the party.

In most of my shopping today, I opt for PayWave when the option is available. Cashiers will usually just turn the contactless reader towards you so that you can tap your card. Otherwise, the reader is already facing you - true for many supermarket outlets.

I think the adoption of Apple Pay in Singapore will be quite fast, especially for people who already use contactless. I'm hoping that our public transport network will support it soon.

Apple Pay = Flop

I disagree. I've been using the service since it launched last July here in the UK.

There are only a few things holding it back: major supermarkets like Sainsbury's (and Asda) don't have contactless terminals yet (although Sainsbury's are launching it next month). There are a few more banks that should be on board (Metro Bank, Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank & The Co-Operative Bank) and whilst a lot of stores have contactless payment, they don't work for transactions over £30.00.

Seeing as American Express are tending to launch before Visa/MasterCard in places like Singapore, Canada etc I'm guessing it works better abroad. From what I've read it's very hit and miss for people in the UK (the card will process via contactless and not Apple Pay or the retailer doesn't accept AmEx because of the processing fees).

The UOB Visa preferred credit card in Singapore gives 4 miles per dollar for all Paywave and online transactions.

It makes no sense to use apple pay wave, unless this card can be considered as Paywave.

I think i'll stick to my pay wave cards just fine.

How does paywave actually work though? It's a contactless credit card ? In which case you could also add it to your apple wallet? Depends on what you have on your person that's more accessible, your phone or your wallet. You could still collect the points even through apple pay if you use this card because the points appear to be based on spend.

You'd still earn your rewards when UOB support Apple Pay. I've used Apple Pay (here in the UK) to earn rewards on my current account and have been able to redeem them.

Amex, pfth. I know maybe 300 people with iphones and don't know a single person with an Amex card... Support Visa and I'd sign up in a second, but not a hope with Amex

Not sure who's at fault for these Amex-only options in some countries, but we need more options here in Australia. Sick of waiting for Apple or the banks to work out a deal so we get the option to use credit or debit cards that 90% of the country use.

I think we're lucky in the UK in that the infrastructure makes it work as easily as possible, probably the way Apple envisaged it working.

If more stores would get the £30 limit dropped, and the hold-out stores would get on board, (i'm talking about you, Tesco) I could quite easily do 95%+ of my purchasing with Apple Pay.

Samsung pay also works with nfc terminals not just the stripe.

How would Samsung Pay come to Canada when we've moved on from Stripes for a hell of long time, and there's liability in going with the stripes. If the original card that's Samsung Pay is using has a chip, you shouldn't be able to use Samsung Pay anywhere in Canada with that card. I'll believe this when I actually see it.

I used apple pay in a tesco metro no problems. Everywhere in the UK that accepts contactless that I tried with transactions under £30 it worked regardless of if the terminal showed or mentioned apple.
Are there any known exceptions?

From what I've seen some people have had issues with AmEx and Apple Pay in the UK (the physical card works fine but no on iPhone etc).

There was a time where B&M Bargains couldn't process AP. Might have changed now?

My local Tesco Metro & Tesco Express (plus One Stop whom Tesco own) are all contactless. Probably down to the fact most in store spend is £30 or less.

But seeing as Lidl & Aldi are contactless you'd have thought the bigger names would be on board to stop them losing customers to the discounters.

It seems that some Tesco metros in the London area are contactless, however, the majority of supermarket stores in the UK are not, and it's by policy, not equipment limitation.

A few weeks ago, Barclays did some back end work and accidentally turned on contactless in the Tesco where my SWMBO works. For around an hour, contactless was working and being used. Then there was a mad rush to turn it off when management found out. The facility is there, it's not being used by policy, for some reason.
