Case in point, did you know if you only had the card number and expiration date of a stolen card, you can keep retrying the CVV code until you guess it when registering a card with Apple Pay? (it's only 1000 codes to try)
Android Pay and Samsung Pay both have gating tech built into their apps to prevent this. Apple Pay does not.
Sounds like an easy fix, but it's a security flaw that has been there since Apple Pay was launched.

To add a card to Apple Pay you need to confirm it with the bank via phone call/sms. So even if you know all the details of the card you can't just add it to Apple Pay.

Yes, I know it's not really Apple's fault, but I sure do wish the Canadian banks could just go with it instead of fighting every step of the way. I'm sure it's all about money and percentages.

Canadian banks would allow Apple Pay if Apple didn't take a percentage of their government capped CC charges - Apple Pay does the transaction for free and they're in like Flynn.

Best speak to Apple about their customer service.

Wow... NTUC Fairprice to be among the pioneer to accept Apple Pay is a big win for Apple. It is the largest grocery chain in the country and seeing others like Cold Storage, Giant and even Sheng Siong joining soon, that's almost the entire grocery chains in the country.

If they can hit the fast food chains like McDonalds, Burger King, Carl's Junior as well as the big boys of coffee shops like Kopitiam, Food Junction, Kou Fu, it will be a good road ahead for Apple to finally showcase what they have envisioned.

Visa Paywave already quite a norm mode of making payment in Singapore nowadays. If Apple Pay can appeal and attract the swing, they are in for a good progress down the road.

NETS FlashPay. Its used in most of the retailers in Singapore. I usually use it for buying small stuff at supermarkets.

I think VISA Paywave may be more common than NETS Flashpay at supermarkets. NETS tried too hard despite it is a very localised system/card.

Can't wait for Apple Pay to accept VISA and I can leave many plastic behind and still enjoy various merchants' discount/rebate without a thick fat wallet.

That varies from bank to bank.
Some require it, some don't.
My AMEX card required it, but my bank (credit union) doesn't require it at all.
Just add it and it was good to go.

Hope Apple just forgot to place their logo on their website. ;) I really want to use Apple Pay.

And hope NETS FlashPay and EZ Link will join in for public transport.

Chance of NETS joining in is slim, given their directives and technical compatibility. Maybe in 2018 when they realise Apple Pay has eaten a big portion of their pie. Hahaha

Weird. My friend just added Amex this morning in Singapore without needing to call bank or do anything else. It was a swift follow the instructions on screen and done.

Citi and HSBC might adopt Apple Pay fairly quickly because they are already using it for the US/UK.

Malaysian banks might be a bit harder though.

I tried a few cards such as DBS, OCBC, POSB, Citi and HSBC.

Most cards ends at last stage with message stating "Your Issuer Does Not Yet Offer Support for this Card". Only DBS has a different path where it bounced upon scan with messaging stating "This Card Is Not Eligible for Apple Pay".

Must be an international thing.
My U.S. issued Amex card displayed a confirmation notice and sent me to the Amex Mobile app to confirm.

[doublepost=1461187532][/doublepost]The continued reports that Apple Pay is "supported" in Australia are grossly in error.

Very few merchants accept Amex, and the ones that do impose a transaction fee on the sale, actively discouraging its use.

The Australian banking system is actively fighting the use of Apple devices, despite Australia being almost completely equipped with RFI merchant terminals that CAN accept the payments.

They're instead supporting a home-grown solution that's already been compromised.

You may be right on that. It causes me to think and wonder about it.

One thing that is not well known (at least in the USA), is that Canada has had "tap to pay" and "Chip credit cards" for many years now. American banks are very backwards. But the Canadian lead seems to be one of the things that is preventing Apple Pay from being set up properly in Canada.

I'm not sure what to think about it.

You know, one thing about "tap to pay" in Canada, that I have experienced, is that "tap to pay" works about half the time, and the retailers seem to have a transaction cap of $100.00 for the "tap" to work. Every Canadian has seen a post it note on the credit card terminal that says "NO TAP" because of all the half-assed implementations (presumably by the merchant visa providers).

Not sure how anyone can petition to get Apple Pay into Canada. Why should I even care is the other question actually!

I guess I do care because I am a stockholder and I just want Apple to be a success, and I can see why they deserve success. I think history shows that the Apple way will be better than the dirty scotch taped "NO TAP" signs we see on the credit card terminals today.

I travel around Canada a lot and the Tap & Go works 99.999% of the time and I've NEVER seen a "No Tap" sticky on the store terminal. Institutions have different limits mine I have a $500 per transaction "tap" limit. Plus for the 0.001% it doesn't work it's Chip & Pin with no signature required.

Canadian financial institutions are light years ahead in the world when it comes to Credit Cards and Debit Cards.

The CC and Debit Card Tap & Go works so well, along with the on-going security levels the banks have instituted in Canada, I don't care if Apple Pay comes or doesn't.

If Apple Pay makes it free to Canadian financial institutions I'm sure that they'd be welcome but no institution is going to pay a fee for something they already offer.

Apple Singapore's website is now updated to reflect support for MasterCard "coming soon", in addition to Visa.

Support for POSB bank as well. Not surprising, since POSB is wholly owned by DBS bank (which will support Apple Pay).

That means the Apple Pay scenario in Singapore will be similar to the UK when it first launched, because OCBC (another big local bank) hasn't announced plans for Apple Pay.

The chance that NETS (EFTPOS) will support Apple Pay is very slim, considering the CEPAS standard that the authorities enforce.

Heck, selling extremely overpriced CEPAS-compliant NFC SIM cards on "supported" Android phones - which already have a built in NFC radio - for use on public transport. It says a lot.

I guess the only time Apple Pay / Samsung Pay / Android Pay will support our public transport network is when our card readers support contactless, which will probably happen a few years down the road.

Just for fun, I tried adding my POSB MasterCard to AUS/US region Apple Pay. It states "your issuer does not yet offer support". For DBS Visa, it shows not eligible.

Here's a link for the current state of affairs in the US from a Visa perspective
https://www.visa.com/chip/merchants...t-technologies/credit-card-chip/resources.jsp
And here is the Australian equivalent, so Visa themselves seem to have set the 100AU$ limit for paywave.
http://www.visa.com.au/personal/features/visapaywave.shtml

The equivalent US page is actually https://usa.visa.com/run-your-business/small-business-tools/payment-technology/visa-paywave.html.

However they're about to be capped due to new European legislation capping at 0.3% so take up may actually rise.
The issue with AMEX fees is a complicated one.
If merchants deal directly with Amex via their merchant services division, they tend to get a great fee rate.
It's when they use a third party processor to handle the Amex transactions is when it gets expensive.
Most third party processors tack on an extra fee for Amex transactions.
Merchants tend to use third party processors, normally their bank. Sending transactions through a single processor makes book keeping simple, but it can cost them more than they think.

Have to say that I don't know anyone who has an AMEX card anymore - absolutely not a single advantage is offered in that card over a simple Visa or MC card. In fact, travelling in Europe, they're hardly accepted anywhere and it's unlikely their use will ever rise.

Must be a EU thing.
Here in the U.S., just about everyone I know has one. Great rewards programs and some of the best fraud protection in the business.

Just called Apple Support Singapore and they told me that Apple Pay is not limited to DBS, POSB, UOB, or Standard Chartered. When Visa / Master Card will come out as one of issuers of Apple Pay, it will work with any card just as long as its issued in Singapore, so banks like OCBC, Citi and others will work. This is great news for me!

(The funny thing is when I called up OCBC before calling Apple, they told me that I have to go to the Apple Store to register my card and the Apple Store in Singapore is not even open yet..):);)
