Presumably they will have a time that they need to switch things on in advance of Apple throwing the switch. Or maybe not. But I'm sure either way it will be out of working hours so that they don't get bombarded with calls from eager geeks saying it doesn't work.

So the banks will have the tokenised systems ready to go, they will have to have them already as for terms and conditions to work otherwise they can't talk to eachother. Apple need to edit the json file (however this is done) to enable the correct access to the tokenised system. Once this is enabled the cards will be allowed to be added. It's a flag of yes and no really at the moment.
All of a sudden when Apple turns Apple pay on, a card will appear in your passbook saying "add credit/debit card". You need to do no more than to wait until Apple add UK as an Apple pay region. 14 hours 34 minutes remaining.

In theory you can already do this by changing your region to US. The key thing is the banks turning on the tokenisation piece. This is how the people were able to add their Santander cards last week.

Two pieces to the puzzle, banks need to turn on their tokenised system to all cards (select few are working currently for testing as shown by CEO of Nationwide, and santander testing mix up) and apple need to swap the json file for the access to Passbook/wallet.

How cool would it be if it really was a switch. A big red switch marked "Apple Pay - Don't use until 14th July", at the agreed time, some employee just wanders over, flips the switch and then gets on with their day!

So does everyone think we'll get an announcement confirming tomorrow's date today?
I thought we would but starting to think that probably won't be the case now. We don't need a software update and everything (json and bank tokenisation) is all done back end so don't need to get aware

We should get a notification from the participating banks to add cards to the Apple Pay option in the Passbook soon to be Wallet, Apple needs to definitely enable the Apple Pay option for this to happen. I can confirm Payment Schemes have provided the necessary Tokenisation services to the banks for secured transactions.
It's so close! I look forward to discussing with you all tomorrow how cool it is to buy stuff with our phones. Hopefully this will gain a lot of traction and the shops will remove the £20 upper limit.
Most of the terminal providers will update their terminals to support high value contactless payments when they up their card machines to the £30 limit, so by that time Apple Pay should work for any amount.

The BBC report it as "from September" but doesn't specify start, end or during. "By October" is a fair shout.
All I hope is that, given both Apple and Android Pay require some form of authorisation, this limit is limited via these services. I'm guessing it's more a matter of 'when' opposed to 'if'.
I'm sure I read that this limit will soon be controlled by the stores opposed to the banks, or whoever sets this limit now.

The contactless limit will still be controlled by the banks. However stores will be allowed to offer higher value to authorised devices, such as smartphones with passcode/fingerprint protection. Hopefully this will also include normal contactless cards when a PIN is entered, like in other countries.
