Apple Pay Apple Pay in the UK

"HSBC denied that its decision not to participate at launch was last minute, saying that it had not planned to take part.

However, the bank was listed on the Apple website as a "participating bank" as late as Monday.

By Tuesday, it was listed as "coming soon"."

You didn't it hold it close enough / for long enough / put it in the wrong place. Same happens with the normal contactless cards, you sometimes have to scan them again if the transaction fails. You won't have been charged for that so I wouldn't do it again!
 
If you have an iPhone 6/Plus and a watch make sure you use the same device for all of your journeys on the tube/bus/tram. Remember that TFL won't ever see your actual card number, just the unique code generated for your device when you added the card, so if you mix and match TFL will just see two different device ID's and be none the wiser. Likely resulting in you getting dinged for the maximum fare.

I'm no expert. But I imagine each merchant has a different key.

If it was end to end with one key, and that key was compromised - it's all open. If one merchant's key is compromised they can get a new one and all other merchant's transactions are still secure.

Been into my local boots and co-op today and no Apple pay decals anywhere on display and machines only said "please insert card"

This exact same thing happened with me today, hate to say it but I believe you've scammed the Co-op! 😉 I tried 3 seperate times all of which showed as complete followed by showing the amount as if you've paid. I had to get my card out in the end. Called Santander right after and they confirmed that 3 Apple Pay transactions were attempted but not complete. If you go back to your transaction history by tapping on the 'i' on the card you used in Passbook you will notice the transaction isn't there 🙂

I had the same problem in Morrisons. I was convinced it had gone through because my phone said so but a payment declined receipt eventually printed.
 
Aye I wouldn't really use it on the tube, it's slower than an Oyster and at peak times you'll be causing a lot of annoyance.

Now that I have my watch, paid for with my phone (how meta), I will have to pop out tomorrow and give it a try with Apple Pay too 🙂

I would say it's still faster than using a ticket tho?

To be honest, so many people irritate me at peak times, it'll be nice to be the irritating one haha

I think all went pretty well today using Apple Pay on my Watch. I used it in:

Caffe Nero
Costa
Tesco
Le Pain Quotidien

The only places I didn't use it were Waterstones (because they said they wouldn't have contactless until tomorrow) and on TfL (because I stuck with Oyster as I have a railcard discount).

The only thing I don't like is that I don't get a list of recent transactions.
 
Just tried my UK natwest card at Walgreens (official apple pay supporter) and got an error. Maybe it won't work outside of the UK?

Of course it maybe slower at tube stations for a little while. Let's give people a chance to figure out how to use it and for it to become 2nd nature.
No doubt the same can be said when NFC and Oyster both launched.
