Apple Pay Apple Pay in the UK

Well, after a few months I've only used Apple Pay twice, both times at McDonalds 😀

What it has changed is the amount of times I've tapped another payment card rather than entering my PIN, which is well into double figures. Before Apple Pay, I hadn't done this once!
 
When setting up Apple Pay with Lloyds, it says I need to phone them to verify. Is this an automated service or will I have to wait and speak to an advisor? Thank you!

I didn't have to do that. They send me a code to my mobile. Do you not have a text message option?

It isn't automated but it's very quick. Be prepared to answer some questions about your credit history as well as the standard ones.

When I set mine up, for some reason with the debit cards, I got the choice of doing it by phone or text. However, with the credit cards, I could only do it by phone.

Oh right I see, must be a different process on credit cards. I haven't bothered adding my Lloyds credit card.

Yeah, i'm referring to Credit too. My credit card AND debit card activated via a text.
 
When I added my Lloyds Visa Debit and American Express/MasterCard Duo cards I had the option to dial a number or receive a verification text (iPhone, iPad and Watch).

Wonder if it's some kind of security feature?

Seems like for newish accounts you have to call them, rather than just giving you both options. A couple of friends who have recently joined Lloyds needed to call (no text option) Where I've been a customer for a while gave me both options.

Confusion reigns in the post office.. Well actually our village post office has recently closed and it's moved into the village shop. Had £21 worth of postage to pay for some parcels. Asked whether their contactless limit had gone up to £30, met with blank looks. Said let's give it a go to try. Presented watch, young lad said we don't take apple pay here, had to explain that any regular contactless works. Ingenico pad wasn't flashing and only prompted for insert card, so I guess the answer is they haven't updated to £30 yet. It's hard to say as the other tills are ingenico's but a different model and they don't take contactless at all. Old post office did 🙁 Not my finest apple pay hour...

Similar issue at our local H&M store. They take contactless but terminal didn't offer it for a £28 transaction. You'd think national retailers could sort the new limit now it's been 2 months!

My local post office in Newbury has 6 or so ingenico ones, all are not activated for contactless of any kind. What's the point of them having them?!

Also, my local Starbucks have swapped their contactless machines for non contactless ones, much to the ire of the entire morning commuters
 
We ate in Jamie's Italian on Saturday. Asked if they accepted Apple Pay (bill was £60), "yes only under £20". I did think but didn't say "well that's just normal contactless then" - figured they wouldn't understand if I'd said it!

That annoyed me too, I would like to know the thought prcoess that went it to removing the contactless machines from Starbucks, yet another reason to go to Costa across the road.

I have been with Lloyds for more years than I care to remember. My debit cards can be verified by text, but the credit cards can only be verified by phone. Very strange

The staff hinted that it was to encourage people to use a Starbucks card.

Ah right, I can see that working for some people. If you enjoy a Starbucks before work and the only way to pay "contactless" is thorugh their own app then people will probably use the Starbucks card more. I used to use one, as soon as Apple Pay came I stopped.

I use it, and use Apple Pay to top it up, as I get free syrup and a free drink every couple weeks. It's just crap for those that want to use proper contactless tho.
