That's good news! I've not seen any ASDAs with contactless enabled, although they've had the capable terminals for years now. Was this over or under £30?

I think Barclays may finally be almost nearly ready to go with Apple Pay (it is within their supposed window too) - Normally, when I've tried to add my card I get this error
And I still get that with my Business Debit card (also Barclays).
However, if I try and add my personal debit card, it pops up a Ts and Cs window
And if I click Agree it tries to add the card. Still fails with a generic error, but it's definitely a small step forwards (not that I'm clutching at straws or anything 😉)

Has been like that with my Barclaycard Visa credit card for a couple of weeks but definitely a recent change in terms of Visa Debit cards!
Well Asda in Spondon, Derby have had the Ingenico terminals for donkeys but still no Apple Pay!

It was under £30, only £7.
The Asda is massive in Watford, it's been neglected for years. Looks like they are finally starting to update the store. I don't go in there all that often, but it's good news about them excepting contactless. The lady behind the till said they don't support ApplePay, so she was surprised it worked. I really couldn't be bothered to explain how it worked.

This made me laugh! I really don't understand how people are getting confused over contactless and Apple pay I know there is a difference, but it can still be used as contactless.
Poor training.. Especially if you don;t understand the technology/haven't got it yourself.
I'll be honest-I just ask to pay by contactless now even if the store has Apple Pay logos outside on their shop windows/at the point of sale.

Same here. I used to ask to pay by Apple Pay and probably 7 times out of 10 I'd be met with "sorry?" or some other confused reply. This was at retailers with the Apple Pay logo displayed too. Poor training indeed.
One of the big supermarkets need to get on board and offer limitless Apple Pay, then we may see a surge from the competitors. Wishful thinking.
I'd settle for BP who were supposed to be enabling it last November if one rumour was to be believed!

Yeah I've had to come to terms with it, unless as mentioned before its my local shops who know me and assume I'm paying with Apple Pay.
Very well said! You would have thought if they have to place stickers and advertising they could do a quick 3minute max educational lesson on what it is, it doesn't need to be complicated at all! If Tesco were to this I'd be so happy, how sad is that 😛 haha
I've got 2 near my home and 1 near my work all have contactless reader's and accept Apple pay, maybe there just a bit late updating the one near you possible?
No, sorry I meant limitless Apple Pay. I always fill the tank in my car and it's always over £30, so I am yet to use it in a BP garage...

Sainsbury's are touted as rolling out a contactless trial from May onwards in select stores.
If they allowed Apple Pay over £30 and integrated the Nectar card into the Wallet app I, for one, would shop there more often.
I'm not sure if Aldi/Lidl are Apple Pay over £30 but the fact they offer contactless over the larger supermarket formats in many more stores speaks volumes.

Is it really that hard to integrate the loyalty card into the wallet app? Costa and Subway have managed it. I wish Tesco and HMV would figure it out (HMV haven't even got new terminals ffs).
No it wouldn't be too hard at all.
I wonder if Tesco can't use your shopping data if Clubcard is integrated within the Wallet app? I know that's how they select which points offers you get in various mail shots?

If your clubcard is processed at the checkout though they'll still get your shopping info surely?
If Tesco, Boots, Sainsburys and any other loyalty card retailers enabled Apply Pay and loyalty cards in Wallet as Walgreens have done in the US that would be fantastic but I think we're a long way off 🙁

The issue lies with the type of scanner in use. The old motor scanners (which Tesco commonly use) are unable to scan the screen of a smartphone due to the reflective surface. Nectar & Clubcard seem hesitant to release Wallet support because their service/usability would differ between participating stores dependant on scanner in use.
The real trick would be to be able to attach loyalty cards to payment cards within Apple pay - this way only NFC would be in use and the whole process would be simplified dramatically.
I'm just going by Apple Pay and how it doesn't store your actual card details.
And seeing as Walgreen's own a majority stake in Boots you'd have thought they'd implement Advantage Card into the Wallet app!
I wonder if Barclays Bank will be ready for Apple Pay from tomorrow morning on the back of tonight's product announcements?

it would be a real trick, given that it would be technically impossible without compromising the fundamentals of security for apple pay.

So does the way that Walgreens have their loyalty card set up with Apple Pay also compromise the security?
