I was in a Apple Store in Germany last friday. They don't accept any sort of NFC payment. Only credit cards, debit cards or cash. So you can't pay with Apple Pay in the german Apple Stores. It's silly.... I know
Ermm but you can still pay with "credit cards, debit cards or cash" so what's the big deal?. Apple Pay obviously isn't up to snuff.

Is it me or this artwork looks a bit un-Apple? Even the notch is noticeably wider than it really is.

This is rubbish! There‘s so much more profit to gain in Germany and we are now behind Kazakhstan…
Chauvinist. Why should Kazakhstan be “behind” Germany, only because there is more possible profit in the latter?
I honestly doubt you have any knowledge on the dependencies such a service relies on.

Don’t you know it’s always Apples fault on this forum?!?

I spent some time trying to unterstand the German banking system. It took a long time for the first banks to dare to combine their services with Apple Pay, contrary to the basic mood of the supervising Deutsche Bundesbank.
Even though the shops in Germany have been technically very well equipped with reading devices for a long time, most banks still don't like Apple Pay.

'was das Bauer nicht kennt das frisst es nicht'.

They are conservative, encrusted and not very innovative. Capital, in other words. Hard work for Apple...

May I put a little german precision in your quoted saying;-)

"was der Bauer nicht kennt, frisst er nicht"

Yeah, your are absolutely right, german banks are slow on anything that sounds like innovation. I am with Deutsche Bank and they have in late 2018 finally managed to give out NFC debit cards, when even the Volksbank already had them for quite some time.
When I go to the US, I have to go to the bank to make sure that my debit cards are unlocked for use in the US and that unlocking is only for a year! They claim it is for safety reasons and the only ATM I can get money from is a Bank of America ATM. Ridiculous in 2018 for the biggest german bank!

I am sure they are giving Apple a hard time. Deutsche Bank did announce Apple pay on their website, but I am sure the problem right now is the implementation in their completely outdated IT system according to the last IT manager at Deutsche Bank that was let go after she complained about that publicly.

As a German I recently signed up for bunq (at their black Friday deal) to be able to use Apple Pay when available, since my bank (TargoBank) will not participate…
I’m ready when it launches in the middle of 2019 :D

You can switch to comdirect, its also free like TargoBank and they will have Apple Pay.

I'm disappointed that this is more about arguing over Germany and less about Borat memes...

I worked at several German banks as a consultant and am not surprised. This was the most backwards oriented environment I have ever worked in - and I have worked in government as well (just to ensure I have some comparison). German banks are now boasting about functionality in their online portals that Dutch banks had 15 years ago!

I can´t even change my address of my German Bank account without sending a fax or a written letter. Some of these banks still live in 1985.

Still, The Netherlands has no Apple Pay either, but I guess that is more down to it not being a priority market for Apple. Last time I checked we don´t yet have TV series in iTunes and Apple News...
:apple: Pay can't stand two things in this world - Germans and the Dutch:)
