Please bring Apple Pay to more countries. My future iPhone 8 would be so awesome if I could also pay with it.

Yep, together with reliable maps with transits and walking/cycling integration; better Siri integration and a Siri which does more then timer settings; better iCloud offerings (unlimited photo uploads when buying a Mac, iPad or iPhone (google does that when buying a Pixel)); better file management between iCloud and iOS (more customizable); more customization of the icons on the screens (the look and feel is getting dated).

 My wishlist is what Google is offering now o_O:confused:

Apple Maps is pretty reliable here in the UK including walking and transit (in some areas) don't know nor care about cycling. Also Siri can do much more than setting a timer, but in some countries there is perhaps not much else to do. If you want to customise icons etc. then you should leave iOS and go to Google and become their product ;-)

It is a shame that not more Irish banks joined the launch, but I hope that will change soon. And hopefully those fools at Apple will open a store there ASAP, it is ridiculous that Apple have not a single store in the Republic.

Gosh but I've used contactless in Kildare, Wicklow, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Sligo and Mayo. They are the counties I've been to since I got a contactless card fairly recently. Contactless terminals are all but ubiquitous at this stage...
Must just be the Kingdom so :(

[doublepost=1488883408][/doublepost]Not quite correct that Australia has Apple Pay as only one Bank ANZ is on board. The rest of the banks are still fighting it

Actually a lot more than 1 bank (ANZ is the only major bank) but we recently got ING which is pretty widely used, Macquarie and 30+ smaller banks and credit unions via cuscal (apparently up to 4 million customers)

What I cannot fathom though is why it is taking so long for Apple to roll this out for everyone across the EU. It's taking so long that we're surpassing the utility of Apple Pay, virtually every debit card in Ireland can be used for contactless payments now and the terminals are almost ubiquitous now so there's no longer a potential extra convenience in using Apple Pay that might have existed when it was rolled out years ago in the US.

The benefit of ApplePay isn't that you can tap to pay, it's that you don't need a card at all.

It's that it's secure. You can lose a card and it can be used by anyone who picks it up. If you lose your iPhone, it cannot process payments without your fingerprint.

It's that it can also be used to pay for purchases online without entering any info.

It's that it goes one major step towards not having to carry a wallet. All of my cards are in the Wallet app. Sometimes I don't even carry my phone. My Apple Watch mirrors my cards in its own Wallet app. Government ID has fallen behind in the digital age. I just don't carry it with me since it's not mandatory unless driving, in which case my license stays in the car.

It sucks that you haven't been able to use ApplePay but it clearly has affected your understanding of its benefits. A card is still a card, whether it is swiped, inserted or tapped. It can't replicate the benefits of having all of that in the iPhone or AppleWatch you already carry with you. I hope you and every other country gets it soon.

KBC and Ulster are minnow banks in Ireland, so nothing really to see here.

Ulster bank is part of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) - a bigger fish.

And this article is factually incorrect as Apple Pay is already in use thoughout Northern Ireland for Ulster bank customers, and has been for ages.
I suspect this article refers to Ulster bank branches in ROI.

"Serious" banks will continuously avoid ApplePay (interest conflict). In Germany you meanwhile can pay with your iPhone via ApplePay using Boon (registration workaround as discribed elsewhere) in almost every shop that is NFC-equipped (e.g. ALDI, Tengelmann, Kaufhof,......). Rarely done, cause rarely know. If you like to progress today, switch to Boon. Otherwise keep in mind your "serious banks".

Boon is effectively charges you 50 UE/CHF/US per year for using them, before any additional charges. I can have a real credit card with less fees that support Apple Pay. However, credit cards from my bank, one of those "serious" ones, is free of charge.

Where are you in CH?
Lausanne, but who cares. Same banks everywhere

What about Norway?
It is dark and cold

It works with debit. I love it!
It works with Visa and Master Debit cards. Maestro debit cards you a different clearing centers, and Apple Pay does not support any Maestro cards at all.

Whats the DCC scam ?

A scam common in many countries but originating in Ireland where foreign tourists are "offered" the "option" (in reality, it is often forced or sold in a misleading way) to pay in their home currency. If they fall for this scam, the shop or the shop's merchant processor decides the exchange rate - which is almost always grossly unfair to the consumer.

I don't get charged for mine. Any chance you can back this tripe up with some facts?

I didn't say every bank did, but I know at least two do. http://www.thejournal.ie/bank-charges-contactless-and-atm-3194785-Jan2017/

Bank of Ireland charges 1c/transaction and AIB will begin charging 20c/transaction. These fees are absurd, have no basis in reality - banks MAKE money when you use their card!, and I can't think of another country where banks would get away with this. People would leave in droves here in the UK if a bank tried this.

 Pay but no  Store here yet. Manufacturing here since the early eighties. Over 6,00 employees. But no Store. Sigh..☘️

Most contactless transactions are capped at €30 and you will need to insert the card into the reader for most purchases over this amount.
.... which utterly defeats the whole point of ApplePay. In Australia, the normal contactless limit is $100. However, if the terminal properly supports CDCVM, there is no reason for (and there isn't) any limit on the transaction amount. Does anybody really think that my signature (my card is chip-and-signature) provides better authentication than my fingerprint? It really is great when you get a properly up-to-date and configured terminal that supports CDCVM and it just works.....

I'm not sure what the situation is in R.O.I but in the U.K. more retailers are starting to accept Apple Pay >£30.00.

Granted it's a slow roll out and there are some notable exceptions but support is growing.

So what no Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB or Allied Irish Bank ... essentially the three main banks in the country ?

Android Pay launched not too long ago and it too skipped on the major banks. #Facepalm

except in Kerry ;)

No, no, it's being delivered on Wednesday. Same as the broadband.

In my local Chinese shop in England, they give me funny looks when I use Apple Pay. Their family follow me out of the shop with suspicion like I have just stolen from them.

What the hell is your 60-year-old drunk running a corner shop going to think when you present your Apple Watch as payment?
