I'm so glad Apple doesn't track people like Google does. That evil company tried to get too much info on people's purchases. They store your purchases on their servers. Crazy.

Of course Google will do that. They need that info/metadata so they can sell more ads since that's how they make most of their money. Said it before and I'll say it again, Android is Google's trojan horse to get your info/data.

Meh, no use for Amex here... Wake me up when Apple pay comes to regular bank issued cards and debit cards...

Which is probably not anytime soon...

My guess is Apple is giving AMEX an early launch as a sign of good faith for their partnership since AMEX will help launch Apple Pay around the world much faster without banks.

The banks will likely join AMEX by the end of the month as numerous reports have shows and the TD webpage leak.

They're the reason it hasn't come out sooner. Some blame could go to apple too but mostly the banks. They won't accept the cut Apple wants for using Apple Pay

I don't understand why it's the banks' fault for not agreeing to give Apple a cut of their revenues. Would Apple give anyone any cut? No. Apple wants to double dip on both users and the service providers.

Time to get a good AMEX card to finally make my :apple: Watch more useful. Banks will be losing a lot of business for not supporting this.

Are people more loyal to their banks or their iPhone?
Yes. It is way easier to switch phones than banks. Well, I suppose switching banks is easier in your twenties. But later in life once you have mortgages, payments of various types, retirement accounts, it would be a PITA to switch banks.

While I won't switch banks, I will get a credit card with whoever because adding a new bill payee is easy and I charge everything to a credit card vs debit anyway.

Can someone explain why Apple Pay can't just be a solution that works anywhere where contactless nfc payments are accepted other than wanting to be in control of the process? Not being snide or a "hater", asking seriously.
I'd have to assume it's a security issue. If a bank allows it, they are contacted through Apple Pay and everything is authenticated once and then stored on the secure element. It's not just like an early Google Wallet thing, where you can add a card and then use it wherever. The benefit with Apple Pay is security. It's just a bummer businesses and institutions are taking a while to embrace it.

If a customer wants something, it is the banks duty to deliver that or risk losing the customers that want it.

Apple is offering a service and in order for the banks to benefit from that service they have to pay for it.

The same way if Company A has more services tied to its membership than Company B. People will obviously chose company A unless Company B adds similar services. It is the responsibility of the retailer to provide what its customers want.

I heard something like $1 for every $100 spent. I've read some where that apple's cut into the processing fee was too much for the banks to deal with as it would cut into their profits

Apple's cut is .15%. Or fifteen cents for every $100.

Most credit card companies in the States realize that they are saving far more than that in fraudulent charges by using Apple Pay.

I'm not about to apply for another credit card plus not many retailers accept AMEX anyway. To me this is really a soft launch unless we get a surprise when the Canadian banks adopt Apple Pay and I'm looking at you TD Bank since you guys leaked out information not long ago!

95% of the places I shop take AMEX

The only places that don't take it or I chose not to use it are the smaller/ local mom and pop restaurants.

That being said, my guess is we will see the big banks have it by the end of the month.

Their banks for sure. I think you overestimate how normal consumers are entrenched to Apple's services. For most people the changing their bank accounts is a "serious" thing, whereas changing phone is just more simple.

Credit cards are not hard to switch, in fact banks are begging you to sign up with them with so many promotions. It doesn't affect your bank accounts and mortgages and payments etc

Who really uses American Express in Canada ?
Even Costco has gone with MasterCard now :D

I'll welcome Apple Pay when it has both Visa and MasterCard.

Most places except small independently owned restaurants and shops, Costco, and Loblaw owned stores.

One of the original benefits of Apple Pay was that it also cut down on fraud so the credit card companies like MC and VISA could even increase their profit by using Apple Pay.
