Incidentally that Friday promotion in the iOS app has been going on for some time without Apple Pay, at least in this area.

Oh, and also McDonald's is… radioactive? Is that sufficient to satisfy expectations for this thread?

Same here. I couldn't imagine what the big deal was. We took kids on a field trip on a Friday back in February and let them go to McDonald's for lunch. Every single one of them pulled out their phones so they could get their free fries.

Do I still have to train their staff what Apple Pay is and how to use it?
They usually point the IR gun out or try to take my phone.
I wish Apple Pay was more wide spread. I do enjoy it.

Oh the irony. I tried to use Apple Pay last night at McDonald's and the person at the drive through didn't know how to process the order, so I had to use my credit card instead.

Free "Fry-day" has been a thing with the app for a while, but only in the traditional use of the app where they scan a QR code when you pay. Getting them free for using Apple Pay *in the app* is new. Using Apple Pay at the register (or drive thru) does not count for this. It's only for mobile ordering, which, in my experience, has never worked in the several times I've tried it at any McDonald's in my area.

The free fries Friday used to be absolutely free no purchase necessary. They added a $1 min purchase though. I work there part time second job not s bad place and gets a bad rap. They’ve improved their menu a lot recently and also too the food is extremely fresh I assure you and doesn’t have “chemicals” in it or even preservatitives. It’s not great food but it’s not as unhealthy as people make it out to be. It’s all in what you chose how much you eat.

Promotions that promote addictive, unhealthy, saturated fat-laden, carcinogenic food should be illegal.

another thing that is only available in the US and not anywhere else in the world. Also, how would this work? do you order something and pay with apple pay then the coupon appears for your next purchase or do you do a mobile order in the MCD app and it adds you in your order?

If you mobile order, does that mean you just sit in your car in the parking lot and they bring it out to you if you don't want to go inside?

I tried the McDonald's mobile order last night. They give you three options: pickup your order inside, in the drive through or curbside. I tried picking up the order inside and it worked pretty well.

A free Big Mac would have been nice, but we know Apple doesn’t even remember what those are a lot of the time these days.

Used the McDonald's app before, they do give buy one get one free on Quarter Pounders, Big Macs and Egg McMuffins although its often associated with local pro sports teams winning and tied to ordering / buying via the app. They have discounts for other things, free medium fries is often always there.

It was a pun, the big "mac".

You need to communicate clearer as there are promotions where a QR code is scanned off of your phone. Ask to pay by card, then tap your phone on the card reader. Simple.
