hi guys

Can anyone tell me if they receive a transaction notification on their watch immediately after you have paid for something using it? I remember I used to get them but then I sold my watch but have since returned back and purchased another watch and I now don't get the small ding and how much I just spent?

Anything I could be doing wrong?

I'm in the UK and registered for Apple Pay with Santander and Lloyds Bank.

In the Watch app scroll down to 'Wallet and Apple Pay' then under Notifications what option are you set to?

Mine's set to 'Mirror my iPhone' rather than 'Custom'.

I do get the ding on my watch confirming that the transaction is complete but I do not get anything on my watch with the amount. On my phone, I can see the last transaction but that's it and right now my last Apple Pay transaction wasn't done with my watch so I don't know if the watch transactions show up there or not. I will definitely have to check next time because that is an interesting question. FYI mine is also set to Mirror my iPhone rather than Custom.

I can remember clearly when I was in St Andrews we went to the Coffee shop Costa, my Santander card was registered at the time and it showed the transaction cost after I'd used my watch on the watch. I'm just wondering maybe it's because I'm now using BOS card but should that really matter

Who's your card issuer? Cards from different issuers apparently exhibit different behaviors.

Yes, it does matter because cards from different banks/issuers exhibit different behaviors, apparently from their end.

I am in the US, my card issuer is Bank of America. I didn't think the card really mattered though as long as it was a bank that works with Apple Pay? BOA does obviously.

It does matter when it comes to notifications. I get no notifications with my Citi Dividend card but do get them with both of my Amex cards, yet all of them support Apple Pay.

Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland are part of the same banking group so by rights it should be showing on your Apple Watch...

I don't think it's that simple. A number of professional and business credit cards do not support Apple Pay, even if they come from the same banks that issue Apple Pay-compatible cards. Likewise, different banks that belong to the same banking group may support notifications differently if they don't share the same system across the board.

No, nor do I.

What happens when you select Custom?

Some card issuers, such as Amex, push notifications to the AW (or rather, Mirror my iPhone actually works in mirroring notifications from iPhone to AW with these cards). Custom is for when you want to get notifications on your iPhone but not AW.

I receive no Apple Pay notification when I use my Apple Watch, but when I use Apple Pay on my iPhone with the same card I receive notifications. Odd. Maybe because it's a debit card and not a credit card?

Yes, some cards are like that, but it has more to do with the card issuer's end (rather than debit card vs. credit card).

I'm with BOS and get the notification on my watch when I pay for something. Maybe try removing and adding the card again if that doesn't work try unpairing & pair the watch again.

I'm with Halifax and this is how it works for me.

On my iPhone I receive a notification with the amount and can view recent transaction history for payments made using iPhone.

On my Watch I receive no notification with the amount and cannot view recent transactions made using the Watch.

That's exactly the same for me with my Nationwide card

On the iPhone you get a notification straight away, on Apple Watch you don't get a notification.
If you have a banking app installed on your iPhone that sends a push notification after each transaction you will get a notification from that app, Apple Watch itself does not support notifications.

That's not necessarily true. Amex, for example, can push notifications to the AW whether or not you have their banking app installed on your iPhone. Read through this thread.
