Apple Pay UK

RBS chip and pin wasn't Apple pay compatible hence I ordered a contactless card which is compatible.
 
I've been using Apple Pay successfully with my HSBC debit card for several weeks but last night at the McDonalds drive through I tried to pay for which Apple Psy said 'success' but the transaction is stuck as 'Last transaction' on the main Passbook screen with no identifier (Usually it would eventually link to McDonalds) and my order didn't show as paid on their system until I tried again using my contactless debit card.

Any ideas what is going on?

Wonder if it was an "online only" Visa Debit card?

I'm not implying you have a 'basic' bank account with RBS but I know RBS/NatWest won't allow customers with a 'basic' debit card to use AP.
 
I'm using AP with a Basic account through Nationwide, think they call it now cash card. I've had the account for 10 years plus. Haven't used the account for probably 5 or so years until AP came along. When I called them up to see if the account was still active and if I could order a replacement card, they asked why did I want to use the account again after so many years. I just said simply because of ApplePay. Bit cheeky I know.

I also tend to have issues in McDonalds, you've just got to wait for the beep on the machine - if that hasn't gone off then the payment has not gone through.

McDonalds stick the ApplePay stickers everywhere but half the staff don't know about it and the majority of the machines get a surprise when you use it.

No it was a rbs visa debit card for my packaged Select Platinum account.

The contactless card I ordered is the new blue/purple design-the previous card was the old school blue design.

What I have since noticed is my new card doesn't have the wee contactless symbol on the card.

I've recently confirmed by enjoying a subway sandwich 'Apple pay does work'
 
Can someone explain to me the situation with Sainsbury's? I read a newspaper article saying they were rolling out contactless terminals, but are going with the Curren-C system rather than Apple Pay.

Does Apple Pay work with any contactless terminal regardless?

Unable to answer though I've not been brave enough to ask in Asda-their terminals look as though they have contactless symbols

it works anywhere there is contactless

If lloyds doesn't launch this week I'm off to nationwide I've waited long enough!

I'm pretty sure my local Asda has the same Ingenico PIN pads as my local Sainsbury's so it's a case of updating the EPOS and enabling it through a software update.

In terms of Sainsbury's I'm sure I read they were looking at the Zapp route (which must be similar to Current-C?)

I recall Asda going with Current-C as they are owned by Walmart, and Walmart has a stake in the rival system.

Whether this means Apple Pay can still be used at their contactless terminals, I don't know. It does sound like it needs to be supported in the terminal software. I guess I should find a contactless store that doesn't display an Apple Pay sticker and try it out!

They are performing maintenance on Internet Banking from 11PM Saturday evening through the early hours of Sunday morning.

Perhaps once that's been actioned (and the new design rolled out) they'll focus on Apple Pay. Who knows?
 
Lloyds bank are now active. I've tried to add my card every morning, and this morning it was finally accepted! Used it to commute in on the bus, tube and train. Really easy. Love it.

Excellent-glad you got it working.

I tried in the early hours of this morning and it wasn't working then (got as far as the Ts & Cs for my Lloyds AmEx) so must've been done overnight.

According to responses on their Twitter account Barclays will be making an announcement soon. Of course, soon could mean many things...

Halifax active too.

Credit cards have to be activated via phoning, debit cards can be done using text confirmation.
Credit card verification includes Experian credit report questions oddly enough. 😵

Well I guess that's one way of preventing fraudsters!

And it's alright until you forget which credit product you applied for many years ago, haha.

Edit: my Club Lloyds Visa Debit won't add-probably pi55ed them off for trying to add it too often haha.

Yeah, I've had ones before like: "You took a credit account in July 2009, who was it with?"
How the heck would I know that?
Luckily it was just ones like "who supplies your electric?"

Neither will my club debit, won't go past try again later screen. My credit card won't play ball either. Keep phoning Lloyds and the MasterCard system won't let them verify it
