I have an iPhone 6 and protect it with the Otterbox Commuter case, I don't think this would impair the NFC chip or Apple Pay at all. Would you guys agree?

Cases with Magnets?

I see a few cases out there that hold the phone in with a magnet (example). I wonder if that will interfere with NFC? It does affect the compass.

Nope, It wont work. You will need to remove the case and any rings or other jewelry you might have on your fingers so you don't interrupt the apple pay signal.

So the useless threads in regards to :apple:Pay begins......

Given that NFC is a close proximity technology, and that lots of people here are iPhone users who have not yet used NFC before, I think the question of whether Apple Pay will work for phones in thick cases isn't a useless thread. And mocking someone for asking that question is of no benefit to the community, whereas giving an actual answer to the question would be beneficial.

Actually it isnt a dumb question. I had to get rid of a case yesterday because wifi reception sucked with it on. Took it off and wifi is great again so it is a valid question.

Its not a dumb question. NFC stands for Near Field Communication. What if "near" meant really near? Like 1mm? Then a case might be a problem. But its not that short range, so it should be fine.

Actually I have the iPhone 7+ with Otterbox Commuter, and it DOESN''T work with the case on. I previously had the same issue with Nexus 6 and Galaxy S8+. The S8 had a flip tri fold case so you could get a bit closer, and it worked sometimes. Will try screen down. When I do it with the case on, the terminal responds with "please insert/swipe card" and the option to tap goes away.

You'd think it would not be an issue, but there you have it.
Zombie Thread... but here's my story.

I use Apple Pay quite often, ( not every day - but most days ) and have the Apple Leather case on my iPhone 7. Never had a problem with Apple Pay. The NFC range is pretty decent; I typically get the little tap about 4-6 inches away from the reader.
