I keep meaning to ask him this too as mine hasn't showed. I contacted them the other day to find out about mine and they said they were having issues getting them . Apparently Apple said they could order them then changed their mind, maybe once they realised what everyone will be doing. They are now trying to get it by by ordering the whole drive holder which also has the cable included.

Got the part and its just the retaining plate and screw , so perhaps the part number is incorrect, 076-00018 the description seems to suggest this includes the cable , but this does not seem to be the case..

So you talk his kit no include ssd pcie flex cable ??

Then why you wrote earlier that the cable is included (in another post)?

I just bought this set, and if it is not the cable that threw money away because there are no refunds :(

Welcome to the Internet? It sounds like he did his homework and it should have been included but it wasn't. If you had read this entire thread you will see that his experience is what everyone was experiencing. Seems like you didn't read this entire thread and blindly purchased based on a random forum post.... Frankly I appreciate people for spending their own time and money trying to figure stuff out for the rest of us. We now know that the part number is not right and there must be another one.... What it is no one seems to know.

Hi !
This is quott from user scoobdriver:
"..I dont have the cable as yet.. it is the same as that shown in ifixit teardown .. PCIe to SSD.. The Part number should be 076-00018 and consist the cable, and the plate that screws on top on the pcie connector to keep the cable in place.. This is all I received..

So I don't know about you talking.
I bought this set on the basis of the opinion of someone who had it in his hands, and described its contents - a crime?
Of course now I'm in a black hole because I got a plate and a screw and I can not even give away or exchanged for another set.
Just beautiful !!

"Should" as stated is what I have been informed.

As a side note. Don't take everything you read on the internet as fact. I am mearly offering a (mis)informed opinion :)

Please also try and resist the temptation to reply to emails that offer to send you $12,000,000 , enhance your life, etc ;)

I'm in the same situation x2 , however since the seller stated the cable was included, I would hope for a refund.. If you paid paypal / Credit card you too should be entitled to one, if the worst happens and the seller will not let you cancel .

I stated before ordering what I was told, and re-posted on here to keep everyone up to date with what I actually received, trying to help further people. I dont know all the facts, I never confessed to do so.. For all I know it was a packing error in the Apple Parts Dept, and you may receive what you are expecting...

Merry Xmas,

There is another part number which also says includes the flex cable -
076-00040 - HDD Carrier & SSD PCIe Flex Cable.

Not sure why you would need the carrier/tray though ..

I have also found been sent this from a store owner today http://www.yourmacstore.com/pcie-ssd-installation-kit-for-mac-mini-late-2014/

Fairly pricey including shipping to the UK though

This is the part number I see on Apple's service guide for the 2014 Mini.

"Hard drive carrier w/ Flash storage flex cable 076-00040"

I don't think you understand what "should" means... Again he didn't say for sure and clearly based on his posts had NOT received the part to validate. If you were so concerned about your $74 then you should have waited. He clearly stated SHOULD. I don't think there is any joke meant. He clearly lost out as well.

Welcome to the Internet. Sucks you lost $74, but quite frankly that's what you get for jumping the gun on some random posts.... Your posting of your conversation did nothing to help your stance. He clearly didn't mislead you. He clearly put his own money where his mouth was and got burned as well. What more do you want? Maybe you should have waited until there was definitive proof that it was in fact the right part? No post stated that it was 100% sure it was right.

Merry Xmas,

I wouldn't even waste your breathe Scoob. Either Yabba definitely doesn't understand English very well and is unfairly blaming you for his lack of understanding, or he jumped the gun and is unfairly blaming you for that too. Either way, you did nothing wrong, you have been perfectly clear all the way through about part numbers and issues, and have been perfectly clear with your descriptions of the situation.

You can only quote what the part is called, and going off those descriptions that Apple has used in the part names (not names you made up) I have also ordered parts that turned out to not match their description. Am I blaming you? Absolutely not. It was perfectly clear what the risk was. Good luck with it and I will continue to do research at my end too to get the correct answer once and for all.

This had better be the right part! I just dropped $42 on it and if it isn't i will come here blaming you all!

Silliest part about all of this is that I really didn't need it since I already swapped the mechanical drive for an SSD.... Oh well maybe when OWC finally gets replacement SSDs for 2013 MBAs and MBPs, I can move the SSD to my mini!

I ordered one one as well from applecomponents.com and will report back. The description and photo both indicate the PCIe flex cable are included, so I am hoping it's real.

Ive also started to see some pop up on eBay as well, suspiciously with the same grainy photo as the above website. Perhaps they are selling around the world.

Either way I'll report back when/if I receive it.

Been bouncing back and forth between booting from an external Thunderbolt 2.0 drive and swapping out the HDD for a SSD (and thereby voiding the warranty on my 4-day old Mini). I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure ;) Thanks guys, and happy new year!

If you don't want to void the warranty, and would like to save a good deal of $$$, you could...

... get either a USB3 external enclosure OR a USB3/SATA docking station, and boot and run your SSD -that way- until the warranty period expires.

No, it will not be quite as fast as internal PCI-e (which is up in the 750mbps range), but you should get read speeds in the 430-450mbps range, or even faster.

I predict you will be quite pleased by using just USB3 for the time being...

I definitely like the price of a USB 3.0 enclosure... Would you say booting from an external USB 3.0 enclosure with, say, a Samsung 840 (or 850) EVO is faster than my current internal 5400 RPM drive? Any particular enclosure recommendations?

Miles faster that's what I do atm. Just ensure you get one UASP compatible.
