Well, I ordered my Pencil (and paid for overnight shipping) from Apple.com just before 3:30 AM on launch day, with a delivery estimate of Nov 19-27. I'm in the US. That order still just says "Processing."
Over the past several days, I've been compulsively checking the Pencil's product page on Best Buy's website for nearby store inventory, but it always just said there are none within 250 miles of my zip code. Yesterday, for some reason, that "Check Stores" button had changed to "Add to Cart." So I thought, what the heck... I added it to my cart, and it allowed me to select Next Day shipping, with a delivery estimate of 11/25. Immediately after I submitted the order, there was some message about the item being backordered, but on subsequent order status checks (and per the confirmation email), there was no further mention of a backorder, so I let the order stand. Funnily enough, I checked the product page again right after that, and the "Add to Cart" button was gone. Anyway... this morning, about an hour ago, I got an email from Best Buy with a tracking number saying that it had shipped. UPS doesn't actually have it in their possession yet, but the tracking label has been created and it's awaiting pickup, so that seems promising.
I see that, as of this moment, the "Add to Cart" button is available on Best Buy... and checking store inventory shows every store within 250 miles having them in stock as of Saturday. I don't know if I believe the bit about the stores, but maybe it's possible to get one shipped directly from bestbuy.com right now.
I guess I'll just leave the Apple.com order in place... and plan to just have a spare, in case I lose one. Part of me is still expecting a third email from Best Buy that says, "JUST KIDDING, SUCKER!"
