Would be nice for the anniversary, for Apple to start making batteries and Screens for 1st gen again to restore them, you know since they keep preaching Climate Change etc.

Here's a "bold" idea. Skip the generation numbering of the iPhones and just call them by release year. They'll never release 2 significant gens within the same calendar year. Just jump ahead and call the new ones this fall iPhone 25 and go from there.

An all glass iPhone would probably look nice but it could be very slippery and difficult to hold.
There is NO way that Apple would release a phone that would easily fall to the ground and break and then face lawsuits, complaints, returns, etc. Is common sense a thing of the past now?

I agree with the previous suggestion - NAME THEM BY YEAR - today's current iPhone is iPhone 2024; this September is iPhone 2025; and the theoretical folding iPhone will be iPhone Fold 2028 - just don't see it making the 20th anniversary.
Only thing is the timing of their announcements. With them being released 3/4 of the way through the year they’d maybe have to name them after the upcoming year, so 2026 this year.

Unless they changed their release cadence. I must say I *really* miss the summer iPhone launches :/

You must have forgotten about slippery gate. The iPhone that was so smooth on the back it was like holding a bar of soap.

They could make a glass model as a super premium option, and keep aluminum for those who want it. I’ve only ever dropped an iPhone when I was being reckless, and it was totally on me.

Don’t want them to not release something that could be stunning just because it’s fragile and needs to be treated like the $2K piece of art/tech that it is.

If that was the case all our iPhones should be plastic to increase durability, including the screen, but most of us wouldn’t like that.

It’s funny because for me, the 15/16 are the slipperiest iPhones I’ve ever held. The smooth glass gave me much better grip than the frosted, which slips right out of my hands. Same with the textured frame vs the polished SS of the old Pros.

I’m pretty sure there’s something to do with physics here. Put your hand or even just a finger on a pane of glass and try to move it. It sticks right? But it doesn’t stick to frosted glass. It’s why window clings and such stick to smooth surfaces like glass but not rough ones.

The only time smooth is more slippery is if your hands are wet, in which case maybe we should re-think messing with our phone, or put a case on it. It doesn’t make sense to prioritize grip in wet conditions when that’s an edge case

That works too. Similar to most car manufacturers, Madden, etc.

I’ve always put my iPhone in a case because I’ve found them all a bit slippery and uncomfortable to hold and it takes away the bump.

When I first saw the picture of the iPhone 10 i thought it was a design concept of the 17 and i told myself that would be an awesome product!

Gurman making things up again…
Let’s see what sticks of this in a year from now, and then what will actually happen in 2027

Steve Jobs' dream was to make a device with no buttons, no ports, all screen nothing else.

iPhone with no ports, under display faceID and front camera, all haptic buttons or 'zones' that truly deserves the name 'Air'?

Please don't give them any ideas about bringing back those awful slippery curved edges. My iPhone 14 Pro is super easy to pick up.

Didn't Gurman keep posting "bold" and "radical" new design for the Apple Watch 10 stories, and then it when it was actually announced it is like 1 mm thinner?

Someone needs to figure how often he is right, my guess is once every 3 months with some random rumour. But since that's now how the news works, he keeps releasing "stories" like this every week just to keep in the news

So why are they redesigning the Pro phones this year (at least, with the new camera bump)? Might as well keep the current form factor until 2027.
