Bigger Mac Mini with loads of RAM. Any app and the OS loading from a ramdrive. Would make any SSD look ancient.

Mac Nano

:D
Mac in your pocket. Runs OS X. Display is a tiny projector or video goggles. Pointing device is a touch pad or optical motion tracking or glove motion tracking. Keyboard is laser drawn with optical tracking or small membrane keyboard. No optical drive and no mechanical hard drive. Runs off of internal battery with a cord to recharge. High speed wireless connection. Optional cell connection. Total size is between iPhone and iPad. Outside surface could be a keyboard and touch pad instead of a display. Price is less than an iMac. Optional straps and sleeve holsters for hands free use and storage or can fit in a large pocket. Uses Atom microprocessor. Limited amount of solid state data storage. Many hours of use on a full charge.

Do you mean like an SSD on a PCIe slot? Those are very expensive.

If it was bigger it would not be Mini. Maybe a Mac Mega in the shape of an aluminium cube. 2.5" bays only to get with the times. Killer graphics cards.

With a custom motherboard with lots of slots for desktop-sized RAM, it could actually be relatively inexpensive. And all the loading could be done via software -- very easy if Apple, and not a bunch of modders, wanted to do it.

My current guess is that no drastically new product will come out this year at all.

How I see this

Computer line up current:
Desktop beginner (Mac Mini)
Desktop Consumer (iMac)
Desktop Pro (Mac Pro)

Notebook lineup
Notebook Consumer (MBA)
Notebook Pro (MBP)

Mobile lineup
iPhone
iPad
some other stuff

Other
Apple TV
Apple Cinema display.

What is missing that <could> be done by Apple.
1. TV > Could be an obvious choice. 32-50" with integrated AppleTV software.

2. Digital cameras > Could be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple just gobbles up something like Pentax or whatnot. Not a wide range needed.
a. Point and shoot
b. 1 or 2 DSLR with maybe 5-6 lenses to begin with.

3. Audio system
4. Printers > Meh
5. Projector: dunno why, but I don't see this happening. Tiny market for this.
Honestly, I can't think of much more.

What distinguishes Apple from other hi-tech companies is innovation in software not in hardware. Apple successful hardware is what can support efficiently the software (computers, phones, gadgets etc.). Thus I do not see any point Apple getting into the camera, camcorder, audio, printer business etc. They could produce a new TV only if this is coming with apple software and capabilities we have never seen before in televisions.

I can see the iMac and Mac Pro being merged into a single compact Mac Pro with a different name and the display would be the new Thunderbolt display. The enclosure would have flash storage and traditional hard drives would be connected via Thunderbolt to reduce heat and size.

Having the iMac go away because I don't see the next iMac having the DVD drive.

I am going to guess it is a new line of Notebooks running some sort of IOS maybe with A5 or A6 chip or something similar. I have a feeling they will get completely away from Intel soon enough, no need to Intel since Apple can make their IOS work on an A series chip. I think they will still offer a higher end unit with the Intel Chips for those who need more power however they have been designing chips for a while now.

I hope so. And I hope they also ditch the aluminum fetish. It was cool for like the first 3 years. I want computers made out of wood!

Wood? Why? So it could catch on fire while on your lap?

Not to mention, give you splinters, crack, or warp with moisture.

Wouldn't be very long lasting.

Liquid Metal is the way to go!

* Scratch / Dent Resistant

* Light Weight

* Nice Darker Color (Gun Metal) type color

* Ability to use less material and maintain the same strength compared to other materials i.e.(Aluminum)

I second the liquid metal. Wood? Really? Ow...

My guess
Macbook Air/Pro with removable iPad type display
or
iMac with touchscreen and thin casing.

Probably not a laptop if the MBP is getting a case redesign. Could it be the elusive mid-range tower?

No. Not unless Tim Cook wants to demonstrate a wild independent streak.

Please give this wet dream up already. Desktop sales are dying; Apple won't be making a mid-sized tower. Mr. Cook will continue executing Apple's strategy and not look to "demonstrate a wild streak"
